The potty-mouth writing really turns me off too. It's not very original, kinda like real life people who never matured beyond junior high.

I finished Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie and a romance novella, The Soldier's Kiss by Patricia McLinn this week. Now I am devoting my attention to finishing The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah.

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments I am at the 62% read mark on the second 87th Precinct novel.
The Mugger (87th Precinct, #2) by Ed McBain The Mugger by Ed McBain. This novel does not feature Steve Carella. Steve is otherwise occupied following the events in the first novel. This novel features Detectives Hal Willis, Meyer Meyer and patrol officer Bert Kling.
the book is a quick read and I may finish it tonight.

Loved that one Teresa!

Teresa | 88 comments What I love about the In Death books, besides the fact they are well written, is there are usually one or two scenes where I laugh out loud. They aren't funny books, dealing with murder and mayhem as they do, but I still find myself giggling hysterically at least once or twice during a book, usually by some comment from Eve.

message 1529: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 5030 comments Same :) The humour is dry - and yes, it's Eve and her comments to Peabody, and sometimes Roarke, which make me laugh :)

Finished reading The Nightingale. An emotional read, but well worth the journey (and the Kleenex).

Karen M | 1436 comments Saving Fish from Drowning did finally become more "readable" after about 70-80 pages so, I did finish it but I feel it was nothing like the other Amy Tan books I've read. It just wasn't that lovely, enjoyable read that I'm used to from her.

Then I needed something to recover so I read The Wedding Date, Agatha Raisin and the Witches' Tree and Charlotte's Web. Now reading The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter.

Debbie Hagedorn | 1 comments Just finished Dog Tags, by David Rosenfelt. It’s a mystery series, but not truly a cozy. Great book, especially if you enjoy stories with dogs.
