Cassandra Page is a mother, author, editor and geek. She lives in Canberra, Australia’s bush capital, with her son and two Cairn Terriers. She has a serious coffee addiction and a tattoo of a cat — despite being allergic to cats. She has loved to read since primary school, when the library was her refuge, and loves many genres — although urban fantasy is her favourite. When she’s not reading or writing, she engages in geekery, from Doctor Who to AD&D. Because who said you need to grow up?

Her latest urban fantasy, LUCID DREAMING, is now available!

"Aspiring writer" sounds to me like a description of someone that wants to write and isn't. It took a long time for me to admit I was a writer, rather than an aspiring one -- it wasn't until I completed my first manuscript that I was finally prepared to own the label. I understand the desire to put a caveat on the front, but if you write, you're a writer. ("Aspiring author" is a whole different kettle of fish, but the answer about writing is still a good one.)

If you're struggling with the draft of your first novel, the most important thing I can tell you is not to overanalyse it too much. It's a truism that all first drafts are kind of rubbish. The glorious thing about this whole process is that once you've written "THE END", you can take a break and then go back to your manuscript with fresh eyes. That's when the real fun of polishing and rearranging and snipping begins.

Well, it's fun for me. YMMV. ;) (less)

One is the sequel to Lucid Dreaming, my adult urban fantasy about dreams and nightmares. The other is a historical fantasy inspired by Ancient Greece. (less)

Nobody ever said death would be easy…

From the streets of Melbourne to the bowels of Westminster, the delicate balance between life and death that is so painstakingly maintained by the reapers of The Order of Dark and Light is being tested by the return of an ancient threat. Tensions are rising within the hidden world of The Shadowlands and if this threat is not contained war will be inevi...

I know I've said this before (possibly in my last review of a Melissa Keil book), but I want to be Melissa Keil when I grow up. She writes the most amazingly geeky and relatable (to me) characters.

“I wasn't good at this dating business. If that's what we were doing. I wasn't very good at predating either. I'd say I wasn't good at postdating, but I hadn't yet had an opportunity to prove it.”

“I examined my palm; the skin was unbroken and smooth, showing no sign of the burn. It glistened with saliva. I really wanted to wipe it clean against my jeans, but that seemed rude. Of course, he’d just licked me, so maybe his idea of rude was different than mine.”
