Must research how many other books they have that are hard to acquire at my regular 3 systems...

I wrote a little review, here is part of that. Copy/pasted because I'm lazy and also because it's time for me to put the kids to sleep :D
Wonderful book, full of revelations, events and cliffhangers.
Mild spoilers ahead but nothing major.
There are lots of parts I love, but the best to me are definitely Monakribos story, the Caleb-Lilliana and Xev-Myone moments and the whole Caleb-Xev-Jaden interaction. I wanted to hug them all, they really clenched my heart.
And a certain part regarding a little trip for Xev and Nick was amazing. I loved every line.
We finally have some answers to some of the big questions and of course we have new questions! The big one naturally regards a certain character whose name starts with C and ends with N. I can't wait to see more of him.
All in all, it certainly feels like a mid-series novel: it resetted lot of things, giving answers and starting everything over again, setting the stage for the next half of the series.

I find it interesting--and odd--that the DH children (Marissa, Val, Annabelle, Drystan, etc.) knew Nick/Ambrose. Because as far as ..."

That really sucks!! They need to get it together immediately

I absolutely loved seeing Jaden with Xev and Caleb.

I'm sure it would suck for their enemies but it would be entertaining

Yes and again it comes back to how future timeline is gradually adjusting . With new revelations we saw in this book I wonder
how it is going to affect in the next DH book:).
One question are the changes only visible in DH or also in the were- and dream hunter books?

Since the were-hunter and dream-hunter books are part of the DH series, definitely so. The biggest example is in No Mercy (Dev and Samia), where Nick feels his memories shifting. =)

And both Ash and Arik noticed the timeline was off as well since events in Tory and Geary lives have shifted.

"And then he saw it. Before his eyes, Kody changed from her current pink tee and jeans into the leather armor the women of her mother’s army wore. Her hair was lighter than her mother’s and she was shorter. But the features were the same. Especially the shape of her eyes and lips. The shapely build of her body."
So... (view spoiler)

I thought I remembered that as well, but that description seems to hint that her real appearance shown when she changed for Caleb, I don't know anymore, especially since I don't remember where I read about her being the same appearance of when she was alive.
As for Laguerre (view spoiler)

Actually this is something that had me thinking for a while. We were told that there could be just one Malachai in all the universes, right?
But, since it all started with Monakribos and there was an uninterrupted line of Malachai following him, then in no other universe there should be a Malachai. Like, ever.
And yet in Illusion we meet Evil-Thorn who is one of the Malachai generals: how can there be a general if there is no Malachai? If there never was?
Also, In Infamous, Thorn said that: "In order to save you, Ambrose has bent the fabric that none of us are allowed to touch. He has breached this existence and is trying to gain access to the outcome that was achieved in an alternate universe and by another Nick, and make it happen here."
So... if Ambrose is trying to achieve something that another Nick did, that means that in another universe Nick became the Malachai and managed not to destroy the world. So there was another Malachai.
Aaaand we're back at the beginning: can there be more than one Malachai in the alternate universes? Or not?

I thought the same Misty. I could have sworn that there was only suppose to be one Malachai in the universe but maybe because Amrobse/ Nick will cease to be Malachai and Cyprian becoming Malachai kinda cancels itself out.

On the other hand, I got 2 cross stitch pamphlets that are adorable (one is Winnie the Pooh, the other is baby stuff that would make good bib designs or cards).
Must keep stalking local libraries...

Yeah, there's a small blurb in Illusion, just after Kody shows her Arelim form to Karma:
"Kody leaned her head back and allowed her form to return to that of a high school girl. To the face and body that had been hers before the Malachai had killed her." (Kindle, 27%)
Which seems to be in contradiction with the scene from Inferno that Misty pointed out above. Then again (and I could be wrong here), I don't think that Bathymaas and Bethany looked exactly identical to each other. If that's the case, then the question is whether Kody more closely resembled Bethany or Bathymaas, in her lifetime.

Well, that sucks about Invision, but those pamphlets sound like they're adorable, Myst. But in the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you as you continue your hunt. =)

On the first theory, I'm sort of in agreement with Shari. (view spoiler)
As for the rest ... I'm pretty much in agreement there. (view spoiler)

Gah I just want answers to this lol
And it's so funny because we're not even close to the finish line. 6 books but it's only been 2 years in the timeline since Nick became Malachai. Omg how many more books do we gotta go until it crosses with the DH timeline!? Lol

And yeah .... we still have 7 books to go ... I'm really hoping that time passes much more quickly in the rest of the books, since Nick is supposedly 24 in Night Pleasures. Which makes no sense, because he's also supposed to be 24 when he dies in Seize the Night. Unless we're talking about altered timelines ....
... And now I have a headache all over again. XP

Ahahah tell me about that. I'm slowly doing a re-read and tryig to do a timeline of events, but nothing adds up. Sometimes there are very definite time markers (the date is mentioned for example), but then you find another time marker that directly collides with the other. It's very confusing!

But yeah, I'm pretty sure we're actually seeing two different timelines in the entire DH series. Because I'm pretty sure that little Marissa isn't an Apollite. ;)

I did a re-read last year and got a pretty decent timeline going, with references as to where I found the information.

Night Pleasures (paperback)
-Nick is 24 (pg 186)
Night Play (paperback)
-Nick is 26 years old (pg 58)

https://www.goodreads.com/questions/1...
Also, if I recall correctly, someone asked over at the official site how old Nick was when he became a DH, and the answer was 24.

In Night Pleasures, there's no year date, but Nick is said to be 24 [pg 186], and the time frame is November [pg 11]. Amanda and Kyrian get married 7 months later [pg 303] - so June-ish the following year (Amanda is 6 weeks pregnant during the wedding [pg 307], so baby would arrive approx. Feb the following year).
---so if Marissa arrives in 2003, the wedding was June-ish 2002, and Night Pleasure takes place in Nov 2001.
In Night Embrace, Amanda's known Ash for just over a year [pg 354]
-NE, Dance with the Devil, Kiss of the night and Night Play all take place over the same approx time period.
Kiss of the Night is during the same Feb as NE [pg 41] and has Marissa arriving [pg 323].
Night Play is initially set during 2003 Mardi Gras [pg 5], but really starts up 8 months later [pg 18], Marissa is an infant [pg 94] learning to stand [pg 98] (so 7-12 months old?), Nick is 26 [pg 58]
Seize the Night is in Oct [pg 4], StN takes place 3 years after Night Pleasure [pg 23], Nick kills himself [pg 285].
So maybe the age in Night Pleasure is wrong and Nick is 21/22ish there, allowing him to be 24 in StN.

Night Pleasure is (probably) Nov 2001 (see previous post), which means Nick...and I think I just messed myself totally up with abbreviations for Night Play and Night Pleasure.
Ok pg 23 of StN paperback:
"She'd (Tabby) been stunned to learn at her sister's wedding 3 years ago that Nick actually worked for the undead."
Ok, so does this mean Nick was 19/20 in Night Pleasure?

Amanda: "How long have you worked for Kyrian?"
Nick: "Eight years now."
Amanda: "Really, you don't look that old."
Nick: Yea, well, I was barely sixteen when I started."
16 + 8 = 24.

FIRST PROBLEM: THE ACTUAL DATES
- In Night Embrace Ash said he's 11.551 yo and that he was born in 9548BC. So it should be 2003.
- Based on the script that SK gave for the tv show, Kyrian's wedding was on June 2003. It doesn't match with Night Embrace or Night Pleasures BUT it matches with the date in Styxx, which places Night Embrace in February 2004.
- In Kiss of the Night (which starts along with Night Embrace) it's clearly stated that we're in 2003 while we should be in 2004 based on Styxx, Anyway this matches with Unleash the Night where we are in 2005.
So, which is right? Embrace the Night? Night Pleasures? Styxx? Or Kiss of the Night and Unleash the Night?
Now, let's pretend Kiss of the Night is right because its date actually matches with Unleash the Night.
There are MORE problems:
- In Seize the Night (which starts in October) it's stated that Valerius remembers that he fought the Daimons with Vane more than a year before. Since the fight happened during Night Embrace, we should be in 2004.
- Still, in Seize the Night, Tabitha says she met Acheron on her sister's wedding, three years ago. Since Amanda's wedding was in 2002 according to this specific timeline, we should be in 2005.
- Again, in Seize the Night, Acheron says Dionysus is still angry because of what happened on Mardi Gras with him and Styxx, three years ago. Since that happened in 2003, in this specific timeline, we should then be in 2006!
CONFUSING.
SECOND PROBLEM: NICK'S AGE
Now, let's keep Kiss of the Night timeline, just to have a date, and let's consider Nick's age.
2001
November
Amanda meets Kyrian [Night Pleasures]
Nick should be 24 (he says he started working for Kyrian when he was 16 and that it has been 8 years) [Night Pleasures]
2002
June
Amanda and Kyrian get married [Night Pleasures]
2003
January
Marissa Hunter is born [in Night Embrace, she's 3 weeks old]
End of February
Sunshine and Talon meet [Night Embrace]
Kyrian e Amanda are married since a few months [Night Embrace]
Cherise is 40 yo [Night Embrace]
Vane meets Bride by chance [Night Embrace]
First meeting between Wulf and Cassandra [Kiss of the Night]
[cutting a lot of dates that don't concern Nick at all]
November
It's the month with Cherise's birthday. [Night Play]
Vane and Bride meet again, 8 months later their first meeting in Night Embrace [Night Play]
Nick is 26 yo [it's specifically said in Night Play]
2004 (I based the year on Valerius saying he fought the Daimons with Vane more than a year before)
End of October/Beginning of November
Desiderius, in Ulric's body, kills Tiyana Deveraux and Cherise Gautier [Seize the Night]
Nick kills himself and forces Artemis to make him a Dark-Hunter. [Seize the Night]
So, Nick was 26 in November 2003. It's written down in Night Play. When he died he should be 27 since it was a year later? And yet we were said he was 24.
CONFUSING, THE REVENGE.
Also, I read in that Q&A linked about that it's all approximate. What the character think, what they perceive... "yeah, I think Nick is 26".
Ehm, can I NOT buy it? Can I think that she just screwed up the dates and then tried to patch it up with that excuse? Because when I think about an approximate age I think "I think he's in his mid-twenties." Not "He's 26."

So Nick started working for Kyrian in 1999 most likely as Dec 1998 he would've just turned 16. (I don't have the first few CON's for dates/times yet, but I don't remember Christmas/New Years being in the first CON.)
So it's completely impossible for him to be 24 in Night Pleasure which takes place approx Nov 2001. He'd be 18 and 11/12ths.
But look at Infinity's blurb...
"At 14, Nick Gautier is an average kid who runs with the wrong crowd. But on the night he decides to go straight and refuses to mug an innocent tourist, his crew turns on him and just as he thinks his life is over… a new one begins."
So If Nick's been working for Kyrian since he was *14* (or 1997), he's still only been working for Kyrian for 4.5ish years when he meets Amanda.
And that's why I think a time jumper Nick (or replacement Nick) might've been there. It's physically impossible for (a normal human) Nick to be 24 in Night Pleasure. The timeline for Nick's bday vs. death month isn't totally accurate (Dec vs Oct), but that's pretty close, he was 23 and 5/6ths.

From what I understand, many readers have asked SK about the timeline inconsistencies throughout the series, and she states each time, that it will eventually all come together and make perfect sense. So I'll take her word for it, no matter how hard I might want to beat my head against the wall from trying to make sense of everything in the meantime. ;)
And for what it's worth, I was originally convinced myself, that Nick was originally 26 when he became a Dark-Hunter.

So no, I can't believe that every inconsistency in the timeline was carefully planned since the beginning. There are dates that clearly collide with each other and until the series is over and we read all the books, I'm going to pull a Saint Thomas and "not believe it until I see it" :P

I love spoilers when I have a question that I need answered right now....and can't be bothered to wait to read the book to get the answer.
And I hate spoilers if it's something that never really bothered me to know.
Some things are great as a surprise. Other things....especially if my gut instinct is running strong; and I have a strong feeling about what it is....well I'd rather just remove the anticipation; because 99% of the time...I'm right.
(view spoiler)[The only way I can see a total lack of emotion being a balance to rage, is that the two states are completely opposite, with rage being an extreme emotion. So I guess when it comes to the gods, a cold lack of emotion could cancel out rage.
But you have an excellent point about that not making total sense. Not to mention, Set himself said that Bathymaas was given to him. And I also find it extremely interesting that she wasn't supposed to ever know love. But her being a shell of Rubati ... yeah, it would make sense that she's not supposed to know love.
Oh yeah, I definitely agree that the primals screwed up BIG TIME with Monakribos. Just like Savitar said, what was done to their line was W-R-O-N-G. (hide spoiler)]
