Janine | 1545 comments Kathryn - I recommend Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen for you. I saw you're a fan of historical fiction and this (other than the Nightingale which you've already read!) is one of the most absorbing historical fictions I've read. It's also focused on a very specific and super interesting time and context - depression era circus society!

message 102: by Emily (new)

Emily Vanmiddendorp Janine, I saw that you liked some Fantasy, I recommend for you, Princess of the Midnight Ball
Princess of Glass
Princess of the Silver Woods

I LOVE those books!!! Emily, have you read The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine? I see that you've read and enjoyed Ella Enchanted--an AMAZING book! There's a companion novel out, Fairest, which was excellent as well. Levine is a keeper! The Goose Girl is on your to-read shelf, a book I certainly recommend. You might also enjoy Ruby Red or Entwined. Happy reading!!

message 104: by Emily (new)

Emily Vanmiddendorp Thanks so much Coralie, these books sound like so much fun!!Definitely putting them on my to-read list :)

message 105: by Kester (new)

Kester Nucum (kesternucum) Hi Coralie! I see that you love young adult books, and it is one of my favorite genres! I see that The Maze Runner is on your tbr list, and I highly recommend it. I would definitely recommend also Between Shades of Gray, Mosquitoland, and These Gentle Wounds!

message 106: by Goedele (new)

Goedele Hi Kester,

I saw in youy TBR list the sisterhood of the travelling pants. I loved that book (and his sequels). You should definitely read that one.

I see you like books about WWII, I highly recommend Sarah's Key

message 107: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) | 596 comments Jade wrote: "Gretchen. I hereby challenge you to read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. make sure you get the illustrated it adds so much more to the story."

I ordered this from the library as soon as you suggested it. I was pleasantly surprised when it came with my order the same day. Usually when I have to order books from other libraries it takes a week to get my book. Unfortunately, I have a pile of about ten other books to read first. Being this one seems a little short than the rest, it might get pushed to the front.

message 108: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Goedele, I saw that you started Sarah Lark's New Zealand trilogy. I read them last year and loved them! I highly recommend you finish the trilogy. Enjoy!

message 109: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Megan, based on the fact that we have very similar tastes in books, I am going to recommend Acts of Faith.

message 110: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Leslie wrote: "Diana , I recommend A Man Called Ove. It is very heartwarming story."

Leslie, I think you got skipped. Based on your to read list, I'm guessing you like thrillers. I'm going to recommend All the Blue-Eyed Angels.

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Elizabeth wrote: "I've got to say, this is really fun. lol"

Elizabeth, I think you were missed too. I saw that The Help was on your to read list. Read it!

message 112: by Goedele (new)

Goedele Megan,
I will definitely do that. I love the books of Sarah Lark!

Elizabeth, I think you were missed too. I saw that The Help was on your to read list. Read it!"

Haha, yeah, I was skipped a few times. That's okay. I was having fun reading everyone's responses. And yes, it's on my list. I can't wait to read it!

message 114: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Well, this is fun! Even though I'm a little confused as to who is wanting a recommendation!

Kadijah - can I recommend Burial Rites to you as I see you like historical fiction.

message 115: by Reenah (new)

Reenah | 179 comments Hello Chloe!

I checked out your lists a bit, and I'll give you two recommendations.

First, I saw that you are from Australia, and you also like romances. There is a great one called The Moon Below by Barbara Bickmore. It's historical fiction/romance, set in Australia. Very epic, very romantic, very in love with the country. I'm not sure how available the book is, though.

My second is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I saw that you might want to read it, and it's also historical fiction, this time set in Scotland. There is also romance, although it's bloodier and muddier than The Moon Below.

Both books have great, strong female characters, I personally prefer Outlander, because the other one is a bit to romance-y for me. Outlander also has 8 sequels (so far) and of course the TV series now...

Taylor C | 454 comments Candiss wrote: "Taylor R., I think you were skipped! After looking through your favorites and combing through your to-read shelf, I've picked The Time Traveler's Wife. I think you will really enjoy..."

I LOVE your recommendation! That is a book I've literally had in my hands, about to read, and I just wasn't ready yet. I was to hooked on another series to start it. I will give it a go this time. :) And you're right, I have a few romance novels on my shelves. I don't like the sappy romance, or the modern romance. I love a good Nicholas Sparks or Nora Roberts novel. :)

The Joy Luck Club sounds just as amazing. I completely forgot about that book actually lol. Thank you so much!

message 117: by Elizabeth (last edited May 04, 2016 01:48PM) (new)

Elizabeth (mermaidnerdliz) | 8 comments Taylor R, you seem to read similar books that I have read or want to read. In fact, we're both reading the same book: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I see that The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? is on your to-read list. I highly recommend this. Changed my life. Anyways, that for me will be a cop out to recommend to you. So, instead, I recommend The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. Great twist on the fairy-tale, and super intense on the "activities" that are mentioned. FYI, it's not a romance book.

message 118: by ReGina (new)

ReGina (regifabulous) | 312 comments Elizabeth, I looked at your read shelf and I immediately thought of two books for you. Because you liked The Purpose Driven Life, I think you might also like The Happiness Project: Or Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun. Also, since you liked The Hunger Games, I would also recommend Red Queen, another good YA dystopian novel. While my favorite YA book is The Fault in Our Stars, this one is a good one as well and is more in keeping with The Hunger Games. Happy reading!!

message 119: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 628 comments ReGina, looking at your books that you've read as well as what you're reading now, it looks like you might like WWII historical fiction. While it's not really historical fiction, I've heard really good things about The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult so that is my recommendation for you.

message 120: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Thank you Reenah - I will certainly look up those books!

Bobbi - I see you read Still Alice and rated it highly. I recommend Inside the O'Briens by the same author. I have just finished reading it and it was a really good read.

message 121: by Lisa B (new)

Lisa B Buesing (lisabuesing) | 135 comments I think Jessica was skipped. I looked through your to read list and I will recommend that you read Where'd You Go, Bernadette. I thought it was a fun read.

message 122: by CMG (Mac) (last edited Jun 08, 2016 05:52AM) (new)

CMG (Mac) @Lisa B (message 122) - We like a lot of the same books. I had such a great surprise when I picked up the Rosie Project. I think you might enjoy Room by Donaghue. (If you haven't seen the movie already.) Happy Reading! Mac

message 123: by Emily (new)

Emily Vanmiddendorp CMac, if you haven't already read The Mermaid's Sister I recommend it!

Thank you so much! I'll check into them asap! Kester, have you gotten recommendations, yet???

message 125: by Reenah (new)

Reenah | 179 comments Emily - I would recommend The Selection series by Kiera Cass to you. Another one would be Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

message 126: by Kadijah Michelle (last edited May 06, 2016 09:01AM) (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Reenah,

You have to read Little Women. It is a beautiful classic about having character.

Chloe, I think you were skipped. I recommend The Rainmaker. In my opinion, it's Grisham's best novel. Less legal thriller and more personal story.

Reenah | 179 comments Kadijah Michelle wrote: "Reenah,

Thank you! It's been on my to-read list for so long, I really have to make it a priority :)

message 129: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Thank you Kadijah Michelle - bumping The Rainmaker to the top of my list! It's been a while since I read John Grisham.

Coralie - I see you like YA and fairy tales - I recommend UnEnchanted to you.

Hey Nethra, I see you read and enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, as did I. I also enjoyed his And the Mountains Echoed, so that is what I'm recommending for you.

And thank you to Alisia, Emily and Janine for my recommendations so far. I will keep those in mind (and bump them up my list)!

message 132: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments Hi Nethra,

I saw you rated My Sister's Keeper 5 stars. I recommend you read more of her books. Handle with Care is good. It's about osteogenesis imperfecta (also called brittle bone disease). I love all her books though and recommend reading any of them.

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 585 comments Hi JoJo,

You're profile is set to private so I can't see the types of books you enjoy. However, I would recommend The Girl with All the Gifts. Everyone I know who reads different genres have still managed to find something to love in this.

Thank you for the recommendation Stefani. The Girl With All The Gifts is already on my TBR list (it looks interesting). I've set my profile so everyone can see it, you're welcome to look through my bookshelves. Any other recommendations? If not, I'm happy with The Girl With All The Gifts, I know it's a good book :)

message 135: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 70 comments Hey there, Stefani!

I particularly noticed your interest in quirky books (Neil Gaiman books, Alice and Wonderland, etc) and magical stories (Harry Potter, etc). I also get the feeling that you're ok with nitty gritty types of stories where authors prefer to tell you *their* story than what they think the masses want. This stands out to me since you have books such as "The Book Thief" and "The Magicians" on your shelves. I recommend a book that fascinated me and made me start to watch for fairies peeking out from flowerbeds and gremlins under my bed but, I'll warn you, it's not always pretty. I hope you enjoy Dreams Underfoot: A Newford Collection (Library) (Newford Book 1) by Charles de Lint.!

Thanks for the recommendation Laurie. This looks great!

message 139: by Reenah (new)

Reenah | 179 comments Laurie - I saw that out of the books we've both read, we didn't always rate them the same way, and I don't want to recommend a book that you won't like.

So, I'll recommend The Complete Sherlock Holmes. I own this 2 volume set, and the stories are just great. First of all, you can simply read one at night before you go to sleep. They are short enough. Second, they are so well written. It never feels like they are over 100 years old. I enjoy them every time I read them.

Thanks, Reenah! I have always considered reading those so it's great to know it's not an overwhelming read! :)

message 143: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Melissa, I see Beloved by Toni Morrison is on your favourites shelf. I recommend to you Jazz by the same author. It is part of the same trilogy but interestingly enough the books are linked not by shared characters or setting, but by a set of recurring themes, predominantly the exploration of African-American history from the mid-nineteenth to the late twentieth century.

message 144: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa-juvinall) Thanks, Chloe! I love Toni Morrison. I have read all of her books, though it has been a long time since I read Jazz. I may have to pick it up again for a re-read!

message 145: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Chloe, because you really enjoyed The Rosie Project and a couple other similar books, I recommend Where'd You Go, Bernadette. It's super funny and has a pretty unique storytelling style too.

Cassandra: (After you have finished the ones you have and need some more books to read). A book I have enjoyed twice and I think is a lovely piece of Norwegian literature..

Alberta & Jacob by Cora Sandel

It's a trilogy, but the first one can be read apart from the others.

message 147: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1188 comments Winter I think you should read Lord of the Flies. Its a classic and a book I just reread from high school. I didn't like it as much as I did the first time, but its still really good. Let me know what you think.

message 148: by Andréa (new)

Andréa | 18 comments Hi Alison! Wow, what a to read list you got!
I was going to suggest you the Lunar Chronicles and The Selection, but I saw that you didn't really like Cinder (i think that the 3 other books are kind of really similar), so maybe, just dive into the Selection and see if the magic works!
And in another kind of book, I suggest you to read The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I saw that it is on your to read anx hope you'll love it! It's completely something else than YA romance; contemporary with a touch of surnatural.
Have fun! :)

message 149: by Jen (new)

Jen LaBruzza (nvjen) | 6 comments Hi Andrea,

It was terrific looking over your bookshelf and using the compare books feature here on Goodreads for the first time! So of these ones we have in common I'm going to recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Ready Player One

I just finished reading it for our book club and I really enjoyed it. It's going to be released as movie here soon! Hope you enjoy.

Cheers!
Jen
