Dixie Minor | 276 comments I read A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman for my book club; we all liked it. Finished Fair and Tender Ladies by Lee Smith Fair and Tender Ladies; I thought it was wonderful but sad. :( Not ALL sad, but parts of it broke my heart, but in a good way, I guess?

Finished:

Alive (The Generations Trilogy, #1) by Scott Sigler

Well....it certainly took some turns I wasn't expecting, haha. I feel like the concept was interesting, I just wish the execution had been better.

Next I'm thinking I might re-read:

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman

I haven't been making much progress on my re-read goals lately, so I should probably get on top of that. :P

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Yesterday I started reading Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys and I absolutely LOVED it! So I followed it with Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys and loved that one too! I have found a new author to add to my favorites.
I just started The Martian by Andy Weir and hope to start Once We Were Brothers by Ronald H. Balson soon.

message 658: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I saw Elora's updates on Out of the Easy and decided to read that later this month, then found Salt to the Sea and Between Shades of Gray on my Overdrive, so I'm currently listening to Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Also currently reading Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger and rereading Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin

Oh, cool!! I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. :D I loved the first book when I was a kid, and then I feel like the second and third books went over my head a little ... so I've been meaning to re-read them for years. Hopefully this time around I'll understand them better, haha.

Its alright Heidi! I hope she's okay too, I sent her several messages and never got any answer at all. :( I'm not too worried about the book--I got a replacement when I met the author to get it signed, but I'm bummed about all the postcards and other stuff people sent with it.

message 673: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Finished my reread of Ashfall. I skimmed a bit in places because of stuff I didn't feel the need to reread again (the assholery at Camp Galena in particular) but it's keeping its original 5 stars. Gonna try and finish Soulless tonight.

message 679: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments TIme for an update! I've been a reading machine the last week or so!

For the #AYearathon Readathon (theme of short books):

The First Star to Fall (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #1.5) by Diana Peterfreund which I really liked. A prequel short story about how the Wild Poppy got started, takes place before Across a Star-Swept Sea (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #2) by Diana Peterfreund

Creation by Kat Mellon I really liked this one, too! It was a wonderful novella.

The Secret of the Old Clock (Nancy Drew, #1) by Carolyn Keene which was classic Nancy Drew--I haven't read Nancy Drew in a really long time! I liked this one, even though it was pretty old fashioned (published in 1930). That being said, Nancy herself was very modern and independent, and I LOVED that! I forgot how much I liked her :)

The Mermaid's Sister by Carrie Anne Noble and I really liked this one! Fun fantasy that almost felt like a fairy tale.

5 to 1 by Holly Bodger This was my favorite of the week, really beautiful writing!

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie LOVED Peter Pan, its just a fun classic story, with a bittersweet ending.

I started reading Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) by Dan Wells for a buddy read, good so far!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Dixie wrote: "Tommy, what did you think of the Jane Yolen book? I have liked other books I have read by her."

I quite liked it. I mean, it's not a new favorite or anything and it's very short, but in my opinion a worthwhile read.

I am old Elora! I actually watched it when it aired on TV in the late 70's and had quite the crush on Shaun Cassidy and his feathered hair. My sisters & I bought his albums (yes actual LP albums) and played Da Do Run Run over and over. He was the late 70's Justin Bieber (the early days - you know before he became a douche).
