Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Finished Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore last night. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it either, but... I dunno. There were certain things about the book I liked. Kat and Po weren't on the list haha. In the end, it wasn't awful, but finishing it felt more like a chore than a hobby.

Next I'll probably try Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard but I'm not fully committed yet, so I may pull a switcheroo at the last minute.

Ashley Marie Finished my reread of Phantom by Susan Kay and reread Little House in the Big Woods (Little House, #1) by Laura Ingalls Wilder in one sitting yesterday :) 5 stars for both, god I love them.

I liked the winter book that they released awhile back. I may get this one too.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Lady Knight (Protector of the Small, #4) by Tamora Pierce , and I loved it! Great end to a fun series!

Still reading Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (alright so far, at least there is a lot of action in these!) and started The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian which is really interesting, but kind of slow moving at this point. I'm hoping it picks up.

I definitely thought it was worth reading!

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments It's been awhile since I've updated here, so here goes:

I read The Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher and loved it! In highschool, I consumed mysteries, but as I've gotten older, it's been harder for me to read them cuz I can usually pick out 'who done it' in the first few chapters. That was not the case with this book. I was constantly going back and forth and around in circles with who I suspected.

Since I had a positive mystery experience, I picked up another one. This time it was Imposter by Antony John . Unfortunately I had that one pegged by the second chapter. I finished the book hoping that there would be a huge twist, but no dice.

I read The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo, #1) by Rick Riordan and absolutely adored it. I spent much of the time laughing. :)

The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani wasn't too bad. The ending got weird for me...one of the characters acted completely out of character and went against everything she had done during the book, but it was still a fun read. Bonus: a nice twist on a fairy tale.

Finally, I picked up Riders (Riders, #1) by Veronica Rossi The first 20 pages were really hard for me to get into (talk about a few weeks), but once I got to page 22, I consumed the book til the end. I LOVED Rossi's other series (Under the Never Sky) and this one has a fantastic start.

message 557: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I tried The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani and didn't have any patience for it, even with the fairy-tale twist. I probably just read it wrong ;)

Should be finishing up Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard today -- it's not a terrible book, but at this point all I can see are the inconsistencies and comparisons. Julian and Maven are my favorite characters. We'll see if the end changes any of that.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finally finished The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson and it was FASCINATING!! Especially when it described in detail how Holmes was finally found out! What an egotistical sadist he was! Also, I never realized how much of America was shaped by that fair, especially in architecture. Was an excellent read!

The School for Good and Evil The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani and reading A Spy in the House A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) by Y.S. Lee

Lucinda Stein | 2 comments Bone Gap by Laura Ruby This magical-realism story was unpredictable and intriguing, a young adult book written in a literary vein while still maintaining the feel of YA genre. I like this new trend where the author doesn't "dumb" down the language.

I remember attempting Garden of Beasts about a year ago in print format, but I'm gonna pick up the audio one of these days because Scott Brick is such an excellent narrator.

I finished. I went into it thinking it was a standalone (since there were no markings on the cover indicating otherwise), but found out it was a duology...and I'll be reading the sequel.
It was pretty good. It was crazy fast-paced and the plot was pretty good, too. There were a lot of revelations at the end that took some time for me to wrap my head around. It was a thriller kindof book--more action than mystery, but I was never bored. It's definitely not a relaxing book. ;)

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) This slow pace seems to be going around. I feel like I've just barely been chipping away at my books lately. It's not the books, because I like what I'm reading, it's just me.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I've decided I'm going to pick an author each month to try and get caught up on. For August I've decided on Cassandra Clare.

I'm going to try to reread the following :
Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) by Cassandra Clare City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6) by Cassandra Clare

And then finally read Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

just saw the new update they did on Goodreads. Had such a hard time looking for my groups. WORST UPDATE EVER!

Anyways, Just finished...
Alive (The Generations Trilogy, #1) by Scott Sigler

I really enjoyed it. I hated the first half of it, but when all the revelations started to unveil, I started enjoying it.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished my reread of Slip (Slip, #1) by David Estes --so good!! Now I'm starting my reread of Grip (Slip, #2) by David Estes !!

Also finished The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian and it was an okay read. I did like it, but it wasn't what I was expecting--it really dragged on in certain spots, but at the same time, it was strangely addictive.

Started The Revenge of Seven (Lorien Legacies, #5) by Pittacus Lore really good so far!

message 597: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Well, I think I will change my author this month, then, and wait to read Cassandra Clare in December, after that book is out :)

So I'm changing my August author to Libba Bray! The books I'm hoping to read by her:

The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) by Libba Bray Beauty Queens by Libba Bray Going Bovine by Libba Bray

The Diviners would be a reread :) Excited, I love this author!

We had a mini-con at the library on Saturday and I got to meet Cinda Williams Chima, Lisa Maxwell and Mindy McGinnis -- I've started reading Lisa's Sweet Unrest and now I'm dying to read Mindy's Not a Drop to Drink :D :D I also have the first book/s in each of Cinda's series, The Warrior Heir and The Demon King yet to read as well.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much lately! July was a surprisingly busy month for me, and I haven't gotten to read much. :( I'm STILL working on:

The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani Hard Times by Charles Dickens

But hopefully I'll be able to finish them both up soon.
