There are 4. The last one released last fall. I'm rereading the first 3 and then finally finishing this series!

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments I just finished Golden Son
I thought the first book (Red Rising) was good but not great. The sequel, though, was hands-down amazing! It took me about 100 pages to get into it, but it was so worth the read. :)

message 55: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I've heard good things about Golden Son, Elora! Glad you liked it :)

I finally finished Owl and the City of Angels and now I desperately need the third one. Thankfully it comes out this summer!

JENNY: Thanks. Thought it was a trilogy but then I saw the fourth. want to finish the series. Read the first but wanted all books to come out first.

I had the misfortune of picking up last night...
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

UGH! it was so good I couldn't put it down. Finished it in one sitting. Good thing it was a fast read! (Misfortune because I picked it up at night and didn't get to finish it till late into the night. Boo work!)

Oh Bluemoon! That is seriously one of my top 5 all time favorite reads. If you can sometimes you should also try it on audiobook because the narration is wonderful. Glad you loved it too!

@Bluemoon - I also read that book in one sitting. I was a total mess at the end. I don't cry easily but there were just tears streaming down my face. :P One of my favorite books––so heartbreaking, but so beautiful. Dammit, Patrick Ness!

message 59: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Ohhhh man. I listened to A Monster Calls on audio last year. Absolutely wrecked me. Jason Isaacs' narration was beautiful and the story just knocked me out. I still need to get a copy for home.

Finished:

UnSouled (Unwind, #3) by Neal Shusterman

I liked it, although it was not my favorite of the series so far.

And today I was on a 6-hour car trip (uggh) with my family, but the bright side is that I re-read almost half of:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) by J.K. Rowling

Ha! I just checked my review of Unsouled and I said the same thing - not my favorite. I did really enjoy book 4 though so I hope you do too. I just finished my re-read of HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban :)

I agree - it was a good book but probably my least favorite of the series. Still wound up with 5 stars because holy crap intense. Book four is a great end!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Stars Above by Marissa Meyer which I loved! Def worth reading if you love the world and characters! Also finished The Girl of Fire and Thorns Stories (Fire and Thorns, #0.5-0.7) by Rae Carson which I also recommend if you're a fan of the world--really amazing backstory to a few key characters, and a big secret about where Prince Rosario comes from.

Also finished The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien which I LOVED, such a fun story! Now I get to watch the movies :)

Also finished my reread of Through the Zombie Glass (White Rabbit Chronicles, #2) by Gena Showalter which was a fun reread!

Right now I'm reading Three (Article 5, #3) by Kristen Simmons and actually almost done with it--I started it today, and can't put it down! This story is so relevant right now, with what's going on right now in Mississippi and North Carolina. Losing your civil rights is a BIG deal! And like what's going on now, in this story it starts as a religious movement. Scary stuff.

Next I'm reading Half Way Home by Hugh Howey and Fall of Night (Dead of Night, #2) by Jonathan Maberry

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished The Inventor's Secret (The Inventor's Secret, #1) by Andrea Cremer pretty good.

up next is The Akhenaten Adventure (Children of the Lamp, #1) by P.B. Kerr

The Hobbit is one of my absolute favorites, though I have to admit I didn't like the movies (despite LOTR being my favorite movie series). I can't wait to hear what you think of them.

Ashley Marie About 100 pages into Watership Down by Richard Adams and enjoying taking my time with it - the chapters are short and I find the characters engaging. I want to cuddle Pipkin and Fiver, they remind me of the rabbits I used to have growing up. I remember a ton of people reading this when I was in middle/high school but again, it was one of those I never picked up. I can definitely see its influence on books like the WarriorCats series, the Owls of Ga'Hoole, and David Clement-Davies' stuff.

I hear you....it took me about a year to read it the first time. It's quite the big read, but so worth it.
We watched parts of the movie yesterday (Hugh Jackman), skipping to our favorite songs, and I just had to pick up the book :)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments By the way, I'm thinking of buying the Penguin hardcover of Les Mis with the red and black cover.....anyone here have that? And do you like it? I had the trade paperback before and it was awkward to hold/read.

@Heidi - A bunch of people have told me the same thing––that UnSouled is not the best, but that UnDivided is really good. I got it out of the library today, so hopefully I will get to it soon! :D Also I'm almost done with my re-read of Prisoner of Azkaban!

@Bluemoon - Haha interesting, almost everyone I know who's read that series didn't like the end of Blood of Olympus. (And I didn't like it much either, haha.) But I'm a little less annoyed by what happened now that I know we'll see all the same characters in the Trials of Apollo.

@Ashley - AAHHH I LOVE WATERSHIP DOWN. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid. :D I re-read it maybe a year or two ago and it was just as awesome as I remembered. Also thanks for posting your Riders review! I think I'll give that book a try at some point––maybe if I find it at the library or something. :)

The Penguin hardcover looks very handsome! I've got the fat little paperback with Cosette on the cover and it is awkward to read sometimes, as thick as it is.

Guess what I found this morning....right in front of me. I had passed right over it when I was looking for it. I think it's the same paperback you have....gray cover behind Cosette, right? So glad I didn't lose it. Has that ever happened to you guys--losing a book only to find it right where it should be?

I did. I thought he was so rude and self-centered. (I'm not a huge fan of Gansey either, or Adam for that matter). If I think about, I don't "love" any of the characters. But I love the way they fit together in the story, which is probably why it's one of my favorite series!
After Dream Thieves, though, Ronan become my fave :)

Ha! I definitely know how that feels -- I'm still missing my original copy of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee; my dad found a spare copy lying around his house about a month after I'd read it (and apparently made it vanish), so I have a copy still but it irks me that it's not the original one I had.

I'm around the 150-page mark and really enjoying it! :D And I heard there's an old animated film as well?

@Elora - Haha I see where you're coming from; he can be very rude indeed. :P All the characters are very flawed, but that's part of why I love them so much! And I agree, they all "fit" together so well. That's probably my favorite thing about the series.

@Ashley - Uh-oh. :( I can deal with those things to a certain extent, but they tend to really piss me off if it's handled poorly––or if it's just kinda thrown in there to be ""edgy"". Thanks for the warning.

But I'm glad you're enjoying Watership Down!! Yes, there is an animated film of it. I've heard it's good but really graphic and disturbing. o_o I've never seen it but I've seen pictures, haha.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I got sidetracked from my other three books by Jackaby. I'm enjoying the banter between the two main characters and the spooky mystery. Maybe I'll actually finish a book one of these days.
