Dixie Minor | 276 comments I just started the new Charlaine Harris book, the third in her Midnight, Texas series. I loooove it! I love this series! It is my favorite of hers; my second favorite series of hers is the Harper Connelly series, and the better-known Sookie Stackhouse series (aka Trueblood) are third. This one is Night Shift Night Shift (Midnight, Texas, #3) by Charlaine Harris I love it so much, I don't want to finish it. :) :)

Just finished...
Front Lines (Soldier Girl, #1) by Michael Grant

it's interesting. Good read, some slow parts, but love the historic aspect of it.

Ashley Marie Finished Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep and started Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch last night :)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard and I loved it! 4.5 stars

message 309: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Also started Radiance by Catherynne M. Valente The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne yesterday.

Radiance has possibly the most beautiful prologue I've ever read in my LIFE. Catherynne Valente is brilliant.

I watched tBitSP awhile ago on Netflix so I know what happens, but I'm still enjoying the read (for the moment).

message 310: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments I really enjoyed Striped Pajamas movie as well, heart wrenching but beautiful.

Ashley Marie I haven't read Rae Carson yet, David! I've had The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson on my shelf for a few years now, need to get around to it soon.

Sounds good! I'm 15% in and it's got my interest so far. The evil character just entered the picture! I like the main character thus far and her unique skill is so creative :)

Today I finished:

Wildwood (Wildwood Chronicles, #1) by Colin Meloy Risuko A Kunoichi Tale by David Kudler

Loved Wildwood!!!! It was really fun and exciting, and had a cool fairytale kind of vibe to it. Plus the illustrations are gorgeous! I bought the other two books in the trilogy and plan to read them soon. :)

Risuko, unfortunately, was not really my thing. It took me a super long time to finish it, and ultimately I just did not connect with it at all. It has a lot of historical detail which was admirable, but I was not very invested in the plot/characters.

Now I am finally (re)reading (for our group read!):

Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black

message 323: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I'm torn between Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black and Traitor Angels by Anne Blankman right now. Which one will I finish quicker?

I need to re-read it as well since I am hoping I like it better the second time around knowing it is not a stand alone book (as I thought the first time) and so I can read book two :)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I haven't read any of The Raven Boys yet but I'm not sure if I want to wait until January.

I finally finished The Mark of the Dragonfly by Jaleigh Johnson . I thought that it was a good middle school fantasy read. I'd say around 3.5 stars.

I just picked up The Hollow Boy (Lockwood & Co. #3) by Jonathan Stroud . I love this series so far, so I'm hoping that this one stays on track.

I purchased this for my son's birthday. I'll have to borrow it from him as soon as he is done. (Which for him should only take a day. He loves Rick Riordan's books.)

Yeah, I'm in exactly the same position. I didn't *love* the first book, so I just gave up on it. But hearing what everyone says about the sequels, I'm going to give it another shot and read the whole series with that in mind :) We could read together? I'm just waiting on my copy from the library, I'm on the waiting list.

message 338: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments OH LOL, I just saw you and Ashley are planning to read the whole series in 2017. I'll probably read it this year, so I'll watch for the thread next year to chat with you guys about it!

Ahh yes definitely give it another shot, David! Personally I love the first book, but I feel like I loved it more after reading the sequels ... ? It sure makes a lot more sense after you find out some things, haha. But yeah, the sequels are amazing! It was book 2 that really got me obsessed, I think. :)

Finished re-reading:

Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black

And now I'm re-reading:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling

Ashley Marie Picked up Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper on a rec from a friend of mine. She's my mom's age but swears this is the MG series she loves and rereads all the time. I'm excited! It involved Arthurian legends :)

message 344: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Hi, everyone! *waves*

I haven't read hardly at all the last week, its been super busy with graduation!

Right now, still listening to Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke and its getting good!

Almost done with Rebellion (Ixeos Trilogy, #2) by Jennings Wright and to be honest, I'm a bit bored with it. The first one was a lot better.

Also reading The Martian by Andy Weir which I'm loving, and rereading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling which of course I'm loving!

message 349: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Brigid, you were interested in my thoughts on Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy, #1) by Rae Carson ....

Overall, I really liked it! Parts of it annoyed me a little and there is a lot of coincidence in the book, but for me the hook (that the MC can sense the presence of gold nearby), along with the historical fiction aspect of it, was enough to carry me through. And now I want to read the sequel when it comes out :)

My advice is to read it if you like books about the Wagon Trail to California, because that's really what it's about. Hope this helps!

Oh cool––thanks for letting me know your thoughts, David! I tend to really like historical fiction with fantasy aspects, so I think I may give it a try. :)

Also I hope you like TRC more if you try it again!
