Rachel C. (rachelus) | 611 comments Hi fleurette,

I hope these are to your liking :) I had to go out on a limb on a couple of the TBRs since there weren't that many books on your meet-n-greet-old shelf that would fit in some of the categories, but I think they are close enough and they definitely look like good reads!

Comfort Food
TBR: First Comes Marriage (I might be fudging this one on the comfort scale a little... I don't know if you feel the same way, but for me historical romances are my go to comfort books; I haven't read this one, but I hope it is a comfort read :))
NEW: Paris Cravings (pastries, Paris and falling in love in the city of love...)

First Comes Marriage (Huxtable Quintet #1) by Mary Balogh Paris Cravings by Kimberley Montpetit

Vacation
TBR: The Edge of Never (I've heard good things about this one and travel/roadtrip is listed as a top category)
NEW: Swept off Her Feet (main character travels to Scotland... definitely want to visit someday! this is a sweet romance with a little mystery)

The Edge of Never (The Edge of Never, #1) by J.A. Redmerski Swept off Her Feet by Hester Browne

Laughing
TBR: Attraction (humorous is one of the main tags and it looks really good!)
NEW: The Rosie Project (this book had me laughing so hard at times that I got strange looks from people on the bus... definitely a favorite)

Attraction (Elements of Chemistry #1; Hypothesis, #1.1) by Penny Reid The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion

Good Friends
TBR:Tempting the Best Man (well, it's pursuing the brother's best-friend... ok, so I fudged this one a little too, but it looks good and sort of fits!)
NEW: The Pact (friends to lovers story; one of my favorites)

Tempting the Best Man (Gamble Brothers, #1) by J. Lynn The Pact by Karina Halle

Music
TBR: Play (this looks like a really good series!)
NEW:Bad Things (a good read with the main male character in a band)

Play (Stage Dive, #2) by Kylie Scott Bad Things (Tristan & Danika, #1) by R.K. Lilley

Exercise
TBR: Free Fall (I think it's safe to say this guy works out... I see you don't have the preceeding 1-3 books on your shelves, so an alternative is Cover Me, though that would technically be "new" I guess?)
NEW:Bound (Ronin is awesome...)

Free Fall (Elite Force, #4) by Catherine Mann Bound (Mastered, #1) by Lorelei James

Sex
TBR: Slightly Wicked (sounds steamy...)
NEW: This Man (definitely steamy)

Slightly Wicked (Bedwyn Saga, #2) by Mary Balogh This Man (This Man, #1) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Pets
TBR: Hunting Ground (shapeshifters!)
NEW: Wolf with Benefits (I loved this book; I see that you read the first in the series, and I have to say this is actually the only one in the series I've read despite it being the eighth one... which means you don't really have to read them in order :) Or, if you prefer to read them in order, an alternative is The Beast in Him)

Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs Wolf with Benefits (Pride, #8) by Shelly Laurenston

Bonus Pick
So, I see that you seem to like mysteries and occasionally some paranormal... so though it's not quite a romance (though there is definitely some tension between the MCs), I think you might like Jaz Parks: Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin :)

Thanks Rachel. I really like them and I know it wasn't easy to work them out because my shelf is rather small. The thing is that these are the books I will definitely read somewhere during the next month. Thanks for your effort! I will also try to get to the new ones.

On the TBR shelf: LOL. Yeah, I get complaints sometimes about the TBR size (I just can't say no to something that sounds good!)...

On the picks: thank you, they all look awesome :) I hope to get to reading a lot, if not most/all, of them this coming month!

(I'm going to substitute Iron Kissed or maybe the following Mercy Thompson book for Moon Called, though, if that's ok?)

fleurette | 287 comments Hi Rebecca,

With so many books on your tbr shelf, I have decided to pick two books from this shelf for every rule. I have read most of the books I chose for you and really liked them. Though, it wasn't easy to found new to you books. If you need re-picks just tell me.

Comfort Food: We all know some books are like comfort food - they just make you feel good. Recommend a book like that or one with food on the cover or featured in the book.

TBR: Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb - I absolutely love this series and use it as a comfort read
TBR: Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts - food in the story and on the cover
NEW: On the Edge by Ilona Andrews - you can't go wrong with Ilona Andrews, definietly to use as a comfort read

Vacation: Select a book set somewhere you would love to visit or where they travel in the story. You may also select a book with an outdoorsy cover.

TBR: The Island by Heather Graham - set on a tropical island with lots of diving
TBR: No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole - Sebastian and Kaderin travel a lot in this story
NEW: The Mane Event by Shelly Laurenston - I have always wanted to go to New York, this is a fun shapeshifter series set there

Laughing: Recommend a humorous book.

TBR: Nightlife by Rob Thurman - I have laughed a lot while reading this one
TBR: Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson - and easy and humorous read
NEW: The Heist by Janet Evanovich - hilarious series with some mystery and action

Good Friends: Having friends you can relax with or talk to always helps with stress. Pick a book which features friendship in the story.

TBR: Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts - male friendship is very important in this book
TBR: Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon - nice series with a brotherhood of arms
NEW: Dark Witch by Nora Roberts - so yes, it's Nora Roberts again, but not many authors write about friendship as good as she, that and the fact that she is my favourite author

Music: Select a book that has a musician in the story or a MC that is artistic or a performer.

TBR: The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux - music is an important part of this story
TBR: Existence by Abbi Glines - I haven't read this one but it seems to do something with music
NEW: Lick by Kylie Scott - I have just finished this book as a part of my March PIFM and liked

Exercise: We may hate this, but it's proven to help. Recommend a book with physically active characters.

TBR: Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh - I enjoy this series a lot, in this book Elena is very physically active, you have to check why :D
TBR: Exit Strategy by Kelley Armstrong - well, killing counts as a physical activity, right? :P
NEW: Burn For Me by Cynthia Eden - interesting PNR containing phoenix, let's just assume that Cain is physically active, can we?

Sex: Probably a more favored form of exercise! =P Select a steamier story or one with a sexy cover.

TBR: Passion Unleashed by Larissa Ione - steamy story, sexy cover, with nice idea behind
TBR: The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by A.N. Roquelaure - definitely steamy story, in a very unique way
NEW: Pleasures of the Night by Sylvia Day - as you may suspect by the title there is a lot of sex in this story

Pets: Pick a book with an animal on the cover or in the story, shifters count.

TBR: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh - shifters in the story
TBR: Fool Moon by Jim Butcher - very good series with some magic and shifters
NEW: Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop - not exactly new to you because you have read the first book and shelved it as your favourite, continue with the series (the fourth book is just out)

Bonus Pick: Just for fun, not required!
Reading: Probably the best stress reducer! Recommend one of your favorites that you will think your pickee will like. Check out their shelves to get an idea of what they like!

TBR: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - one of my favourite books, wonderful writing, interesting characters and world-building
NEW: The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver - one of my favourite series, I have read nearly everything written by Deaver

We have a good amount in common, although you've already read a lot of my favorites. I hope you find some intriguing choices here.

1. Comfort Food: Always the Baker, Never the Bride by Sandra D. Bricker on your TBR sounded interesting. You gave good reviews to Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise and I can never decide if that one or Agnes and the Hitman is my favorite by her. Agnes has a food column so there is lots of food and plenty of kooky Cruise characters.

Always the Baker, Never the Bride (Emma Rae Creations, #1) by Sandra D. Bricker Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie

2. Vacation: A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole got me interested in Valkyries, which leads nicely into my second pick - Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson is set in Norway where Ellie finds out she is not your average teenager while visiting her grandmother.

A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #2) by Kresley Cole Valkyrie Rising (Valkyrie, #1) by Ingrid Paulson

3. Laughing: Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey is a lot of fun as an author blackmails his ex into spending the weekend with his family to get an interview. The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz is quite different in it's presentation as PI Izzy explains life for the Spellmans while working on a case.

Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey The Spellman Files (The Spellmans #1) by Lisa Lutz

4. Good Friends: You can't go wrong with the alpha men and strong friendships in the Colorado Mountains with Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley. Or check out a New England small town with close knit ties of the Cupcake Club with Fool for Love by Beth Ciotta.

Kaleidoscope (Colorado Mountain, #6) by Kristen Ashley Fool for Love (Cupcake Lovers, #1) by Beth Ciotta

5. Music: Both these books have wizards who perform as storytellers, or just perform. Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings is the start to an epic fantasy series and one of my all time favorites. Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynn Jones is a classic tale about an eldest sister, a self absorbed wizard, a wicked witch and an amazing moving castle.

Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad, #1) by David Eddings Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones

6. Exercise: Great start to a series with some "special" military men/brothers. Love that he has amnesia at the beginning and his estranged wife gets called in to claim him - Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti. Awesome PNR where Pia is blackmailed into stealing from Dragos which leads to them meeting and him going all alpha dragon on her in Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison.

Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

7. Sex: I don't tend to read super steamy, so I got both these from your TBR based on cover. Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione or Holding Strong by Lori Foster.

Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1, Demonica, #6) by Larissa Ione Holding Strong (Ultimate, #2) by Lori Foster

8. Pets: Have some fun in Alaska with How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper. Or check out the unique YA book where Morgan accidently learns of "others" existence and ends up volunteering to help some of them integrate into our world instead of getting her memory erased in My Life at the M.B.R.C. by K.M. Shea

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper My Life at the M.B.R.C. (Magical Beings' Rehabilitation Center, #1) by K.M. Shea

Bonus - Reading: Great YA series by one of my favorite authors - Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep has Gwen joining the Mythos Academy a bit later than others as teens are trained to use their powers in the eternal fight against Loki and his Reapers of Chaos. Or check out a new twist with Dark Descendant by Jenna Black where descendants of "gods" have some basic powers.

Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy, #1) by Jennifer Estep Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black

Pam | 1048 comments Hi Nancy H-
I've been lost in your shelves for an hour. You have great mysteries there. I think you are the first person on PIFM that has actually ready Dana Stabenow--my favorite mystery MC ever! The romance part was a little harder but I did my best.

Comfort:
TBR The Diva Frosts a Cupcake (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #7) by Krista Davis this may not be where you are and I don't know if it matters in this series.
New The Baker's Daughter by Sarah McCoy I really liked this book

Vacation
TBR Trail of the Spellmans (The Spellmans, #5) by Lisa Lutz I love San Francisco and these books always make me laugh
New The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Who doesn't want to go to France, although not during the period this takes place. Another great book. I didn't expect to like it but I couldn't put it down.

Laughing
TBR Bobbie Faye's (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels (Bobbie Faye, #2) by Toni McGee Causey although I thought the first one was hysterical.

New Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day (Bobbie Faye, #1) by Toni McGee Causey (see above) or My Bluegrass Baby (Bluegrass, #1) by Molly Harper which I loved for some of the weird festivals

Good Friends
TBR Almost Home (Chesapeake Diaries #3) by Mariah Stewart or Sunset Bridge (Happiness Key Series, #3) by Emilie Richards Haven't read either one of these although I generally enjoy Mariah Stewart

Music or Arts
New Lick (Stage Dive, #1) by Kylie Scott This is my go-to musician referral. It's funny. Who doesn't marry someone they met in Vegas? Although we just got back from Vegas and I couldn't believe the number of wedding chapels OR Thread of Fear (The Glass Sisters, #1) by Laura Griffin This is an older Laura Griffin that I recently read. I've sort of been on a Laura Griffin streak. The MC is a forensic artist. I'm reading the next book in the series now.

Exercise
New Rescue My Heart (Animal Magnetism, #3) by Jill Shalvis This is one of my favorite series. MC does mountain rescue. I don't think you have to read the series in order OR Wildest Dreams (Thunder Point, #9) by Robyn Carr MC is a triathlete. This is from Robyn Carr's Thunder Point series which I am currently working my way through. Again I don't think you need to read them in order but I recommend any of them.

Sex
TBR Exposing the Heiress (Once a Marine, #3) by Jennifer Apodaca the guy on this cover has better than a six pack.
New The Spymaster's Lady (Spymasters, #1) by Joanna Bourne another nice chest. I recently read this one too and couldn't put it down.

Pets
TBR The Real Macaw (Meg Langslow, #13) by Donna Andrews I enjoy Donna Andrews books. They make me laugh. The book group I belong to here has been lucky enough to have her come and talk to us twice because someone in my group knows her. She's a stitch.
New: Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews this is shapeshifter which don't seem to be a favorite but I like the series. The first one is okay but you do have to read them in order. MC is a kickass heroine.

Bonus Pick: In looking at your lists, I would try any Crombie. The first one I read was The Sound of Broken Glass (Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James, #15) by Deborah Crombie . They are very British. I picked this up to read at my mom and dad's having never read one of hers. I am slowly working my way through the series. OR You have a lot of John Sandford on your list. Sandford is one of the few authors I still buy when they are published. I'm fond of the Virgil Flowers series and you don't need to have read the Prey series to follow these. Decent mysteries and Virgil makes me laugh. Finally new to you (I think) is an old series that you might like Monkeewrench (Monkeewrench, #1) by P.J. Tracy . These are all mystery--very little romance.

Hope something catches your interest for April.

I am in the middle of listening to Nice Girls Don't Live Forever (Jane Jameson, #3) by Molly Harper and just finished The Seduction of His Wife (Logger #1) by Janet Chapman this week for Pass the Parcel so good picks on your part. Not sure which one I will read but a lot to work with. Thanks.

These look GREAT, Pam! Thank you for such good picks. It is really going to be hard to choose one to start with because I want to read them all - immediately!

I agree about the Dana Stabenow books - I really like those, and especially with their Alaska setting. I also like Sue Henry's Alaska mysteries. I may also pick up some of the earlier ones in the series ones that you suggested here, because they look good and I am working my way (too slowly, imo, because I keep reading so much other stuff!) through these series.

I will let you know which books I start with (notice the plural there!). Thanks again for such good choices.

Here are your picks. I did find a few on your TBR list that fit the categories, so I went with them, and also added a few new ones that I really have enjoyed. If you don't see anything you like, please let me know and I can choose more for you.

Comfort How to Eat a Cupcake How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue (NEW)

Vacation/Travel The Girl on the Train The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins - not a vacation but lots of train travel during a commute, which is what causes all the problems. Definitely a good book. (TBR)

Good Friends The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn (TBR)

Music Mozart's Last Aria Mozart's Last Aria by Matt Rees - a really good story (NEW)

Exercise Home to Woefield Home to Woefield (Woefield, #1) by Susan Juby - The characters get lots of exercise in this one, which is also hilarious and could fit in with the Laughing category above as well. This is a really good story, which I enjoyed so much I immediately went out and bought the sequel. (NEW)

Sex Summer Fling: An Anthology of Five Sizzling Novellas Summer Fling An Anthology of Five Sizzling Novellas by Chloe Harrison (TBR)

Pets Just One of the Guys Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins (NEW)
