T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments I'm on day 2 of a Countdown Deal.
Yesterday I sold 7 books, which actually had some very positive connotations.

But today I've sold none. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Sweet FA.
I'd even paid for advertising this time, in an attempt to gain some sort of footing.

I'm starting to doubt and get gloomy. :-(
tbh, my bottom lip is protruding in a somewhat petulant fashion.

Please can you send me hugs?
And maybe soft words of, "hang on in there".

xx

Hugs!

((((squeeeeeze))) Big hug for you T.L. We all would like sales but if we don't get any, please don't feel bad. Your books appear to be interesting, well-written with very appealing covers. Something will happen and you have my virtual support here. I'm sending out 'sales vibes' to you.

Yeah, I write because I love it.
Just when I take such efforts to promote it'd be nice to see some return on it.
(*sigh*)

Oh well, back to writing book 6.

Awe! Countdown buddy! *Hug!*

The countdown is still on for a long time yet! Remember, it is still not done work time on this side of the pond for most!

I know the feeling, my last giveaway I did a 3 day, and the last day I didn't get a single download. It happens, you're going to have good times, you're going to have bad times. Remember you're in this for the long run, not the short, take a deep breath, and just have fun.

Remember to take screenshots of things when they go well.

End up on the Amazon top 100 list for your category? Screenshot!
Sold 7 books in one day? Screenshot!
Was on a book newsletter? Screenshot!
Got a hug from a bunch of people on GoodReads? Priceless.

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments CB you're right.

Thanks everyone. You're all very kind and lovely.

Sorry; just took a tumble.
My 777 at 10:10 message was so powerful I had high hopes but then got dashed.
I really just need to keep the faith.

3 years on and I'm still struggling, but that's woe is me.

I'm much further along than I was 3 years ago.
And I've met some wonderful people.

And I still love writing.

(*slaps myself in face*)
No more self pity.

Rolling in faery dust and farting rainbows; just call me a unicorn.

I can do this!

Ian Bott (iansbott) | 269 comments Bottom lip protruding? Maybe even quivering a teensy bit? That will never do!

Yes, it sucks to put so much effort into something and be met with a resounding silence. Persistence is the name of the game. *Big fat squishy hug* and hang in there!

Sending you all big squishy hugs right back xx <3 xx

<<>> Unicorns don't have to worry about sales, just rolling in faerie dust! Go enjoy your writing and don't stress watching the countdown! You have done all that you can do to prepare this time. Analyze the data after and see what you can do better next time. Every time we learn, we grow. You will get this!

I'd say cheer up, but it looks like you've already got that covered. :)
Just remember, you got seven yesterday! That's quite good. Seven more than I had! Now, about that hug...

I think I've had seven sales so far this year.

Today isn't over yet.

Davyne DeSye | 19 comments Oh... BIG HUG... another rebound, slightly smaller hug. A really comforting rub on your shoulder.

I know just what you mean. My husband, when my lip is quivering, says "Slow and steady wins the race." I really don't know that it applies at all, but somehow it still makes me feel better.

So, I pass it on to you.

Hang in there.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 973 comments HUGS T.L.
I'm a new writer, not even published, and I enjoy it immensely.
I know once I self-publish, I will be too afraid to look at sales info and reviews. To poor your heart and soul into something that you expose to the public for criticism is both frightening and brave.

I admire you for your keep-going attitude. And during all your worrying today, you took the time to help me on Fae beings and provided me with great information links. I appreciate your generous spirit. No slapping yourself in the face... that hurts!!
HUGE HUGS, Sue

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Yay; all your positivity helped.
I just checked and I sold one whole book yesterday. Yay! :-)

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all.
I really thought someone might suggest I just shut up and get on with it, but you all sent hugs which were all gratefully received.

Sue; helping people is what I do. And it felt really nice to lend an elfin hand to your enquiry.

Feeling a lot more hopeful again now.
After all, it's another day (said in my best Scarlett voice) ;-P

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Thanks to you Anthony.
If I'd known how many virtual hugs I could get I would've asked before. This is lovely! :-)

And now very excited; just seen an email that my ReadCheaply email ad is now live and about to land in many inboxes. :-)

And after a blip the other day (thanks to an odd delay on Amazon US), my Freebooksy one is now due out tomorrow.

Here I go, here I here I go. Boom! (Fresh Prince btw)

More hugs coming your way! I find that is such a wonderful thing about Goodreads, no one is ever alone in this big sea of books. And everyone knows how you feel, whether they have been there years ago or minutes ago. Hang in there!

Luciana Correa (lucorreaauthor) | 24 comments I'm investing on promotion. I'm not sure if it help you, but my hug goes with lots of hope. Let's rock, girl!

message 28: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ferguson | 40 comments Big hug. Sold one book last month and even the giveaways are dropping in customers.

Seems such is life in the Indie world. At least the book is out there. When I came up it was just endless rejections from publishers and magazines, managing to get a poem or story published for no pay for every 100 or so you sent out.

This is a considerably better world.

message 29: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Blaylock | 1 comments Sending my own big hugs!!! I can totally relate...I just ran a free promotion and did some advertising and still didn't see the huge download numbers some of my fellow authors see.

I think we're harder on ourselves than we need to be sometimes. I know I should be happy to sell even one book a week, but I feel like I should be hitting the big numbers by now, too. It's such a learning process...never underestimate that! I'm going to keep sending positive thoughts your way, and hopefully once your book goes back to full price, you get TONS of sales!

message 30: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Aww. Group hug!

Seems we're all feeling it a bit. Hopefully over Easter people will start downloading our books (and read to escape family conversation) ;-p

I've sold one book total and it was too my mom lol

message 34: by Gippy (new)

Gippy Adams | 99 comments Sorry, T.L., I feel your pain. I'm still floundering around a month or so after publishing. I haven't even gotten into a 'countdown' yet, trying to figure everything out and have my book seen and get more reviews. So, I wish you well. Certainly hugs are plentiful from here, as I believe they are the best comfort ever. I will think great thoughts for you as well tonight and pray your work flies off the shelves!

message 35: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Wow Gippy; welcome to the crazy world of authorship; we sale stormy seas. :-)

Nik; if you're offering alcoholic beverages please make mine a wine. However, not so good in the virtual format ;-0

I'm so pleased these hugs are still going round.

Hug an author!

xx O xx

message 36: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 14 comments After a great deal of effort - promoting on Twitter, Facebook, and several (free) sites, -I sold eight copies and had one complete book read on a 99cent Countdown deal. And that was my second-best result, ever. Overnight success rarely happens. Just keep writing because you enjoy it! Maybe that handful of downloads will lead to word of mouth recommendations :) Hugs :)

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 973 comments Hugs Margaret,
Yes, when I publish (must think positive), I will hope for word of mouth. It's 4:43 AM here and I've been up all night writing. Time for me to go to bed, then get up in 2 hours to feed the dogs.
Hugs to ALL : )

message 38: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Hugs to Margaret.

Hugs to you as well Sue. At least your dogs will give you fluffy cuddles too :-)

OK, so I've been going for almost 3 years. I'm no novice.
The final count was 28 books sold in my Countdown week, which is great. However, it doesn't even pay for 1 of the 3 ads I paid out for (in the sad hope it may generate many sales).

Oh well, back to writing book 6. My latest romance is about vampires. It's fun and cheers me up. And I even have a bank holiday weekend looming, so hopefully get time to write.

If I don't get a chance to say; Happy Osatara/Easter/whatever you're celebrating right now. xx

message 39: by P.J. (new)

P.J. Roscoe It can feel lonely as an author - but keep going if this is what you truly love. Big hug to you :)

Yes, I enjoy cuddling with my furry family.

Denae Christine (denaechristine) | 167 comments I find hugging strangers awkward.
But I will give you a high five and fist bump and "Hang in there" shout and dance! (Because dancing is totally less awkward.)

message 42: by M. (new)

M. | 5 comments Aw, stay positive!!! Hugs!!

Did you also see those rejection letters that J.K. Rowling posted? Don't ever get discouraged!

You've found something you love to do and that's a wonderful gift!

message 43: by Marien (new)

Marien Dore | 4 comments I feel we all have moments where we feel discouraged because of a lack of people behind us or buying in this case. Just remember the story you are telling and that it deserves to be told. Don't ever let things like that stop you from writing because you know you are good. The hard part can be introducing people to it. Hang in there really it will get better :)

message 44: by Neven (new)

Neven Carr | 21 comments Oh man, I totally missed this Hugfest! Maybe we can make March 16 the official Hug an Author Day for SIA!

message 45: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Neven; have a hug, it's not too late.
Every day is hug an author day! :-)

I am feeling much better, but the thread has changed to being a general group hug as we all seeemd in need. xx

Denae; a dance is perfectly acceptable in lieu of a hug as long as it's interpretive dance (I'm thinking the image of the squirrel that goes round on fb when I say this) ;-P

JK already featured in one of my blog posts btw.
Just in case any of you missed it and want a giggle, my snarkiness can be found here:
