So, there's extra success hugs for all

I'll still be writing as the story's not finished, but hopefully I can pop in to top up the hug supply a bit more frequently now.

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments How are we all, fellow huggers?

I hope you all had a marvellous festive season, and are raring to go as we storm into the new year.

Me? Well, I've spent the past couple of days in bed, as somehow I have flu! :(
Not such a great start to the new year.

So, I shall take a lovely fluffy hug, and a germ free shnuffle with Dog.
And as I wore my hazchem suit to post this, I'm leaving freshly laundered, germ free hugs right here for y'all.

<3
Keep smiling. If for no other reason that it creeps some people out ;-)

Sorry to respond so late, Jane!! This thread keeps getting dropped from my notifications and I don't know why, but will make a conscious effort to check on it often. Thank you and Dog for the hugs and baked goods. I enjoyed them with some spiked eggnog! ; D
Huge Hugs to you both.

Awe... Dog is actually quite smart, Jane. When we dry our dogs with a towel, they are essentially receiving hugs and pets and playtime. You're a wonderful dog mom, Jane. Hugs

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Haha, maybe Dog needed some hugs himself? He's always giving out such lovely ones :)
Thank you for drying them off though ;)

Finally feeling more human again. And starting to pick up my NaNoWriMo project. Yay for writing!

Hope you're all having a better start to 2018.

Big squishy hugs to you all (being left on top of the pile of dry fluffy ones) xx

I am old, and I won’t dance the dance
When it comes to a day of ‘romance’
I am finding it hard
To see love in a card
There is much more romance in a glance

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Nice poem, Jane :)

I do feel Valnetine's Day is very forced.
I'm blessed with a hubby that shows me he loves me all the time.
It's often in the little things; the way he folds up my shopping bag and reattaches it to my handbag (I leave it strewn on the floor and forget about it).

And I love how this thread is a source of love and support all year round.

That sounds grim hun x Been going through a little of that myself recently, the post-written marketing slog that no-one tells you about is getting me down.

Don't stop writing mate. Only you can write like you x

message 1083: by Leo (new)

Leo . Hi Mary.

(Big hug from me)

I know how you feel. You are not alone. Goodreads has helped me so much since I joined in August 2017. Not long after I had published my first book. I had a major breakdown and apart from a loving girlfriend, my rock, Goodreads has helped me interact with the world again. Albeit a virtual one.

Readers are so welcoming here and the feedback is great. So don't give up Mary.

(Another big hug)

I have taken the liberty to writing you a small poem. I hope you don't mind.

When things are slow, and I am feeling low

I know this is when, my words flow

When all I seem to have, is time

The cogs start to turn, I pen a rhyme

It is hard Mary, you know for sure

And marketing, becomes a chore

Have faith in everything you do

For you are an author, know it is true👍🐯

Angela Joseph | 132 comments Hugs, Mary. I think most of us go through similar things at some time, and you are allowed one bite of self-pity. So do what you have to do, get a job if you need to, but don't stop writing!

How sweet and very true. The very act of doing something you love is timeless and priceless!

message 1087: by Amie (new)

Amie O'Brien | 280 comments Finding a job that you enjoy and that helps fund your joy of writing and publishing might be a blessing. I have the same discussion with myself every single day, multiple times, at that.

If you think about it, a ton of athletes work their way while training to become an Olympian. The most elite don't, but many do. So that tells me that it doesn't mean we don't have immense talent. It's just an incredibly hard field to make a living from.

Just try to stay away from day careers that suck the life out of you. That would be my best advice. (And no matter what they pay!)

message 1088: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Mary; I've only just seen this, I'm so sorry.
Here; extra big hug coming your way xx

This is how this thread started. I faced bleak sales figures and felt discouraged. We all do sometimes.

Do what you need to do to pay the bills.
But don't give up writing if it's your passion.

I cannot think of giving up. A part of me would be missing if I stopped writing now.

Felix; kitty cuddles are very welcome here too. Dog is very friendly and will make way for felines :)

Leo; that's a wonderful poem. Thanks for doing that. True Hug Thread spirit <3 Big hug to you for that xx

Annie; very sound advice there. Soul sucking jobs are bountiful. The price you pay is too high, We must find something not too terrible to pay the bills. :)

Big hugs all round.

xx

message 1089: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes I, too, just spotted this latest conversation in here. My heartfelt hugs to all who feel discouraged, overwhelmed, and disenchanted with trying to feel seen and heard in the vast sea of books out there. I had no idea when I began this journey just how expansive that ocean is, and bobbing around in a tiny lifeboat seems pointless at times. But I agree with all who have spoken that you do what you have to, to pay the bills, and keep trying if it feeds your soul to write. From what I've seen in my limited exposure here, these are common feelings and difficulties. I say that as a new writer....but as a lifelong reader, I feel I need three lifetimes to read all the books I want to read, and it is difficult to make those choices and leave others out. Hang in there, Mary!

Jane Jago | 888 comments Dog creeps in looking guilty as he hadn’t hugged for a while. You see he Has Had A Flea...

Gone now so he returns with shedloads of furry, slightly antiseptic smelling hugs.

He says he could do,with some hugs himself. Because. They baffed him. In wet water...

Hugst to all those in need. And warm baked goods
