When Lucy Ceased to Be

Perhaps I should give up reading my daily newspaper for a bit!

You're not alone Anna. I'm still trying to plow through The Road Less Travelled. The seminal work on life, relationships etc - 1970s. I'd include a cover link but there's lots of books with the same title (how so many can be pub using the same name I have no idea) and I'm having a moment re the author's name.

Can't believe I read this when I was at school. Interesting yes, but factually dense.

message 203: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 290 comments Ah, The Road Less Travelled, and marching to the beat of a different drummer - they certainly resonate with me and after taking a look at your profile, I can see why you are reading TRLT. At least you have lots of books written to excuse you for reading an interesting book rather slowly.

I must try harder, I must try harder, I must...

Carolyn | 9836 comments I'm reading The Wolf in the Attic by Paul Kearney. Excellent tale about a child refugee from war torn Europe in England. The story has just got all dark and a bit gothic. Lovely!

I just picked that one up from the library today. I think it was Carolyn who gave it a really good review and Michael did too.

I thoroughly enjoyed it Jo. A great historical fiction novel which was admittedly a little slow in places, but I definitely wanted to keep reading :)

message 226: by Jo (new)

Jo Rushby | 238 comments Yes Brenda it was slow more than boring. Anyway 2 books on reserve came up for me to borrow and had to abandon this book. Just my luck 2 reserves come in together!!

message 229: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2163 comments I started reading Why You Are Australian: A Letter to My Children this afternoon - getting through it fairly quickly. It's making me feel strongly nostalgic for the Australia of my childhood.

message 230: by Ryan (new)

Ryan The Best Feeling of All is making me terribly nostalgic as well.

message 231: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've picked up Blood & Beauty: The Borgias by Sarah Dunant but it's not suiting my mood at the moment so might try something else today. I probably need some escapism so might give one of the Sarah Waters books a re-read today.

I was just given Acid Row by Minette Walters and I haven't read anything from her before, have you read this one? I am a little hesitant about the content after being given an overview.

I love Minette Walters - have read all her books and she is the main reason I got into reading crime as I wouldn't read it for years.

This one is about the housing estate set in England - brilliant portrayal about living in poverty, seething racism, well any sort of ism really and how crowd mentality takes over from reason.

message 249: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Picked up Blood & Beauty: The Borgias by Sarah Dunant yesterday after an earlier false start with the novel. Happy to say I am now firmly entrenched in Rome, 1490s and the machinations of the Borgia family, particularly Rodrigo but also very interested in the son Cesare.

message 250: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments I'm reading Play Dead by Angela Marsons.
It's very good!
