I love that cover! Enjoy

message 358: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I really love the cover too, Margo. I hope it's going to be a quick read even though it's over 400 pages.

message 359: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I liked the cover and the premise. I didn't check it my library holds it. Will do it now.

message 360: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I have The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge for a couple of years and just don't seem to get around to it. My library has Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge and A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge .

but unfortunately not this one

message 361: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments That last one looks like the cameo task that we have Margo.

Face like glass is my favourite book! I loved everything about it

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Jannene wrote: "That last one looks like the cameo task that we have Margo."

The face in profile task? Ummm - no. Not the focus, not prominent enough. It's overpowered by other things on the cover.

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments I'm wrapping up Once Upon a River and thought other readers might be interested in a buddy read. I've almost read it, but I think it would be perfect for a BR.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I own it and have on my Trivia challenge, but I don’t think I can commit to reading it right now.

No problem, Cherie. It hasn't to be right now. I thought it was maybe a possibility for a group read.

message 369: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I have Origin. I already read inferno. I may join in if its okay

message 376: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Jun 16, 2020 02:56PM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I'm trying to read more classics, something I used to do but for some reason I'm getting lazy about. Is anyone interested in reading a classic in the near future (not necessarily right now)?

There are a few I had put in my list for this year:
The Grapes of Wrath
East of Eden
The Moonstone
The Awakening
The Turn of the Screw
Watership Down
The Haunting of Hill House

but I'm open to other options that might sound interesting to me.

message 377: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Sandra - I would be interested. I have not read either of the Steinbeck books nor the Chopin nor James book.
I have read both of the books by Collins (loved it!) book and Adams (I read it years ago and tried to listen to it last year, but I could not do it). I am not sure if I am too interested in Jackson's book, but I have never read her either. You could twist my arm. ;o)

message 378: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Lol, Cherie! I hope we can agree in something to read together without me having to twist you anything. :)

So, I own The awakening, so I have immediate access to it. The turn of the screw appears as always available as an ebook in my library webpage.
As far as I can see it shouldn't be great deal to get The grapes of wrath or East of Eden (again in my library webpage).
Watership Down seems to be more tricky to get, but still not impossible.

Which ones do you have available?
When would be a good time for you according to your schedule, Cherie? July or August both work for me.

message 379: by Cherie (last edited Jun 17, 2020 08:09PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Sandra - it is weird but The Haunting of Hill House is an always available audiobook on my library web site.

I picked up The Awakening from Barnes & Nobel for 99 cents. I know that I can get the Steinbeck books from them too, but I will also check my library. I think they are both available as ebooks, but it has been a long time since I looked at the availability.

Either July or August will be fine for me or both if you want to do more than one. You pick the book you want to read and I will join you. You don't even need to twist my arm.

I own The Moonstone in my ebook archive.

I can get The Turn of the Screw for 48 cents to $2.99, depending on which version I want.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Cherie wrote: "I picked up The Awakening from Barnes & Nobel for 99 cents. ..."

Well, if you bought The Awakening I think we should start there to justify the expense. :)
I would suggest to start it on July 3rd, but I'll set a thread to discuss the details there.

We definitely can read another in august or later in the year. I really would like to read as much classics as possible this year (but not only classics).

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments Sandra, I'm up for Watership Down when it's okay for you.

Would someone like to read Wolf Hall with me? Normally I'll get my copy the first week of August.

message 383: by uncomfytomato (new)

uncomfytomato | 265 comments Hello~ is anyone's up to a buddy read for the book Dig. ? I have the hardcover book and I'll probably get the audiobook too.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Saar The Book owl wrote: "Sandra, I'm up for Watership Down when it's okay for you."

Great, Saar! We just finished East of Eden, and the plan is to read The Awakening in the near future, and then we can do Watership, but there is no rush. Is there a time that works better for you from August on?

message 385: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments I'm having vacation at home the first 2 weeks of August, so that would be perfect if it fits for you?

message 386: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Yes, it fits. I will create a thread when I'm in my computer.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi Janice - please change the thread that was created for The Inventor's Secret (Book 1) to read (Book 1 - 3).

Jannene and I are going to start reading Book 3 today. We already read book 2 on our own, but did not really discuss anything, although we made comments in our series threads. Dom decided not to read with us, but Dawn may. I just thought it would be easier than doing a whole new topic.
