Jannene | 3124 comments A group of us are planning on reading Gone, Baby, Gone this coming weekend to start instead of waiting until April.

message 253: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments We are breezing through the Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro series. We plan on starting Prayers for Rain on April Fools day...no joke! This is the 5th book of 6.

Hello! would anyone be interested in reading the Chronicles of narnia with me? i barely started the first book last night

message 255: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Welcome to the group, Kaya! Hope you enjoy the Narnia series. I have a big soft spot for those books.

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you! I've been reading the first one and it's good so far

message 257: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Kaya, are you reading in publication or chronological order? Which did you start with?

message 258: by [deleted user] (new)

I started with the magician's nephew since it has a one on the side of the book so i figured it was first. Is there a different order?

message 259: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments That's chronological order, then: https://www.narniaweb.com/books/readi...

I haven't read the series yet, but I always remember Rusalka's recommendation of reading them in chronological order instead of the order they were originally published.

message 260: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Apr 07, 2019 12:21PM) (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Yes, chronological order is better and the way the author recommended. I started that way too. I've already read the first two, but let me know when you get to the third book (The Horse and His Boy) and I'll probably join you for that one.

message 261: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok cool, glad I'm reading them in the right order haha

Jannene | 3124 comments Rusalka, this I think was your nomination. It is on your TBR list. Were you planning on reading it? The Gods of Gotham

Kristie, it is on your list too. ;)

Thanks for checking, Jannene, but you guys are much faster readers than I am. I think I'll sit this one out.

I'm still digging myself out of the reading slump that came with the new job and death in family, have another buddy read I forgot about this month, and haven't been able to find the book here for less than $30. So I am also unfortunately a decline.

I will be really interested in what you think though! And I do really want to get to it, when I can find it in the country for a decent price.

Maybe I can mail my paperbacks to you once I’m done.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Jannene wrote: "Maybe I can mail my paperbacks to you once I’m done."

Naww thanks, that's lovely. But if postage overseas there is like it is here, it will cost you twice as much as the books cost!

There is a new bookshop at work with an entire floor of secondhand books (imagine... a bookshop at a university! We haven't had a bookshop that sells books for about 7 years!). I haven't had a chance to look at the secondhand floor yet, so I will have a look there on Monday. After this week, I deserve a book browsing lunch break. Or even just a lunch break... /sigh

message 273: by Jannene (last edited Apr 24, 2019 05:42PM) (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Ok, we start on May 1 for the Timothy Wilde series - Gods of Gotham

Rus, I have no problem mailing the paperbacks but I understand. I could at least see how much it would cost if you wanted. I have mailed books to Dom in Canada and it wasn’t too bad.

message 274: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments We start on June 15 the second book in the Timothy Wilde series - Seven for a Secret.

message 275: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Margo, I'm going to start The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper today. Did you still want to buddy read it? Does anyone else want to join us?

message 276: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Janierce, I'm ready to start. Sorry I did't see your see your post earlier. Have you started?

message 277: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I think The Five looks really interesting, but I won't have the time for it for a while. I look forward to seeing what you both think of it.

message 278: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Margo wrote: "Janierce, I'm ready to start. Sorry I did't see your see your post earlier. Have you started?"

I started and I'm not sure I'm going to continue. It's quite a dry read and put me to sleep last night. I thought that once I got through the introduction (because introductions can be dry), the main body of work would be better. I'm on the section about Polly and there's a huge info dump about social/economic background of specific occupations and schooling. I'll read more today and see if it improves.

message 279: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Yes, I've just listened to the introduction and it is very dry. About to start "polly" now. I haven't been sleeping too well lately so hope this will have the same effect on me as it did on you Janice lol

message 280: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Janice, Peggy and I are thinking of reading Us Against You. Is anyone else interested? I think it in November at the easiest.

message 281: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I still have to read the first one. I bought it off the library sale shelf a couple of months ago.

message 282: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments That gives you at least 2 months to read it ;-) I predict that you'll really like it.

message 283: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Shall we set up a thread for it?

Sounds like a good plan.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Would anyone be interested in buddy reading Jessie Burton's new book, The Confession, with me? We did buddy reads for both of her previous books and they were really enjoyable and made for some great discussion, so I thought it might be nice to do the same for this one too. I was thinking of starting at the beginning of next year.

message 286: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm interested! I just have to check how expensive it is here.

message 287: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Still a bit expensive right now, but it might be cheaper in a few months. And if not, I'll probably buy it for a buddy read anyway ;-)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Lisa wrote: "Would anyone be interested in buddy reading Jessie Burton's new book, The Confession, with me? We did buddy reads for both of her previous books and they were reall..."

It doesn't appear to be published or distributed in Canada just yet, or I would join in.

message 289: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments When will it be published Janice? Lisa suggested reading it in the new year, so it might be out by then.

message 290: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I might join you too.

message 291: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Yeah, it looks like I'd have to have it shipped from the UK. I'll have to see when we expect it to be available here too.

message 292: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Peggy wrote: "When will it be published Janice? Lisa suggested reading it in the new year, so it might be out by then."

I can't find anything that indicates when we can expect publication here. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's soon.

Definitely count me in! I had that on pre-order. I don’t mind waiting a bit.

Kristie, try Kenny Bookshop, I think they have free delivery worldwide. https://www.kennys.ie/results/?q=The+...

message 294: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Oct 15, 2019 02:39AM) (new)

Jayme | 4519 comments I would be interested in reading it also, if it becomes available.

message 295: by Lisa (last edited Oct 15, 2019 03:08AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I don't mind waiting a bit either. This was more a post to see who might or might not be interested in joining in. We certainly don't have to start it right at the beginning of the new year. I'm more than happy to wait if it means more of you can join in 🙂

I will set up a thread for it anyway and we can work out a start date once you all have a better idea of publication and availability.

message 296: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I would be interested in joining in.

message 299: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Looks god to me, Jannene. I will jump in with you. I feel pretty laid back for next year. I might not even make plans.
