M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Just heard. Now I know how folks who loved the movies in the 40s felt in the 80s as all their idols died off.

message 402: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well he can hardly complain. 95 isn't like being cut off in your prime.

message 403: by Kim (new)

Kim Padgett-Clarke | 16 comments He may have gone physically but his achievements will live on for a very long time.

message 404: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Dave Brubeck is now taking more than five.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Blimey.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments AA Gill the restaurant reviewer...
Really sad about Greg Lake, though. It's not that long since Keith Emerson went.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Carl Palmer still seems to be going strong...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Zsa Zsa Gabor, aged 99. Wow!

Yes, the original 'famous for being famous'.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Carrie Fisher has had a massive heart attack. Don't you DARE 2016!!!

message 411: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Christmas is the death day but here's hoping ...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Rick Parfitt - Status Quo.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) RiP Rick - I'm sure he will be sorely missed by, not only his close friends and family - but by anyone who appreciates good rock!

message 415: by Kim (new)

Kim Padgett-Clarke | 16 comments Status Quo introduced me to the world of rock. I saw them in Blackpool in the 70's and they were simply awesome. Rick and Lemmy are going to have a hell of a party up there!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Now George Michael, at 53 that's much too young! This is just unreal. The year is ending with a Wham!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Very sad and we know what song will be playing next Christmas!

message 418: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments George Michael? Ffs?

message 419: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Yeah, the guy was younger than me. That starts to get worrying.

On the positive side, at least Carrie Fisher is stable :)

message 420: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I couldn't name one of his songs but still, it's sad. I think with celebrity 'early deaths' we forget the hard-living, often addicive lifestyles they led.

message 421: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I confess I loathe 'Last Christmas' and 'Club Tropicana' comes close to being one of my most hated songs of all time. But I did like Wham Rap and I really enjoyed a lot of his solo stuff and despite all the public trouble he got into he came across as a decent bloke. He had to stop recording for something like 5 years, until his recording contract expired because his record company wouldn't let him pursue the music he wanted to. I have always admired him immensely for that.

Kath, I think you have a point, it sounds as if he did a fair few hectic substances.

message 422: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I think the only death I want to see now is the death of 2016., Roll on new year.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12642 comments Wow, that's a shock - funnily enough we saw 5 mins of a Christmas song show yesterday and commented on how young he was when that song was done.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments My favourite George Michael song ever

message 425: by Kim (new)

Kim Padgett-Clarke | 16 comments At midnight on 31st December I think the phrase happy new year should be replaced with "thank God it's a new year"

message 426: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments It won't get any better, there are scores of septuagenarian pop stars and actors queuing up to die next year. It's just the way it is.

message 428: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just saw on Facebook that Judi Dench has died. Oh no.

message 429: by Gingerlily - The Full Wild (last edited Dec 26, 2016 09:05AM) (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Apparently its a hoax. Although at 82 it would be quite believable.

message 430: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Whew. That took my breath away.

You're sure it's a hoax?

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) It's a hoax - there are some sick people out there!

It has to be admitted that when a celebrity boasts of spending £1000 a week on Cocaine and £500 a week on Vodka, their early passing is hardly going to come as a surprise

message 434: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments £1000 a week on cocaine???

Think of how much vodka that'd buy!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments That was probably in his hey-day. Apparently he turned to giving it away in later years.,

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) His death is probably more likely linked to the bout of pneumonia he had that resulted in him having to have a tracheostomy in 2011 and the car crash he had.

message 437: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21817 comments I know writers are supposed to write blogs to sell their books but I don't think this one will win me many friends. :-(

Can I mourn other peoples' idols?

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Well - another one has joined the sad 2016 list........... not a celebrity - except with her own circle of family and friends. She had been battling breast cancer for years and was so determined to beat it for as long as she could. She was the same age as my daughter (45) and lost her battle earlier this evening. RiP Samantha Jayne Clewer-Midgely.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12642 comments Aww, sorry to hear that Flo

message 440: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21817 comments these are the genuine tragedies, sorry to hear it Flo

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Just heard that Liz Smith has died, aged 95. Nana in the Royle family amongst other roles.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend - that is much too young. Condolences to you and her family.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Thanks everyone - she put up such a good battle and kept her positivity going right to the end. She was determined that she would see Christmas and even made it, albeit in a wheelchair, to a carol service in the hospice yesterday. This is the message her family wrote on FB to let people know.........

Tonight at 17:30 Samantha passed away, surrounded by loved ones. As everyone in her life knew, she was a fighter. And god damn she fought it hard! And with 2016 being pretty shit for the loss of great people, naturally she wanted to be part of that club... I'm sure everyone reading this can agree she earned her place. (And we know there are a lot of people who loved her very, very much reading this) In this undeniably hard time it would be her wish that each person remembers her in their own way. Everyone will have one stand-out memory that springs to mind when you think back on your time with her. Whatever that may be, that is how she'd like to be remembered. In true Samantha tradition take this time to sit back, have a drink and enjoy time with loved ones. She'd want us all to go forth into the new year, striving to achieve our goals and making the most of every moment

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12642 comments What a lovely tribute Flo. Can't believe we've lost another celebrity, although it doesn't seem as sad as she was 95.
