McOther watched it when I was out and flagged it up as something to pick up on iPlayer. I just squeaked in in time and I was so glad I did. As well as being a distinguished pilot, he came across as such a lovely chap and so full of character.

Louise Rennison, author of a series of books about Georgia (Angus, Thongs...) has died. My girls loved those books.
Joe Patroni is dead. The actor George Kennedy, who played the character in all four of the Airport movies has died aged 91.He was also Dragline in Cool Hand Luke among many other roles.

A lot of my friends love her books.
I've just seen Pat Conroy has died. I really enjoyed his books.
It has been announced that former First Lady, Nancy Reagan has died, aged 94.
RIP George Martin, producer of my favourite band. I used to live in Maida Vale and every now and again I'd walk up the road to St John's Wood tube and go from there so I could walk accross THE zebra crossing on my way to work. I never got bored or stopped being amazed that it was part of the commute!Cheers

Sad day for popular music. Whilst The Beatles were a great force behind the development of pop music during the 60's, without Martin's production skills they would have been just another popular beat combo, producing the same sort of songs as everyone else at the time.Sir George Martin turned them from a follower that did cover versions of rock 'n' roll songs to singer songwriters and innovators. That can never be over estimated.

Now we've lost Keith Emerson. He died at 71 at his LA home.Evidently, it now seems that he took his own life. Listening to Steve Hackett on the radio there was a brief reference to his poor health.
Sad loss indeed.

Very sad - I was a big ELP fan - they played at North East London Poly when I was a student (1971?). Still got the Pictures at an Exhibition LP. Good stuff.
Saw them in Birmingham around 1972/3. Keith Emerson had a new "stick" that when he slid his hand up and down it, changed the notes. He leaped off the stage and strode up the centre aisle playing it on his arse.I would have loved to have seen this:

Yesterday one of the reporters on my local BBC radio station died suddenly on his way to a story.I remember listening to him on the radio when he presented one of the programmes as I was travelling home from work.

I remember so well Cliff Michelmore's reporting during the Apollo 13 incident. Incredibly professional throughout.
Yes, I was reading that he was kidnapped as a child and FS Snr paid $250k to get him back.
Paul Daniels is deceased then. :-(As lampooned as he was in the press sometimes, the man was a superb illusionist and apparently an extremely outgoing, friendly man. He leaves behind a loving family.

There was references to the Louis Thereau programme. Evidently he was there to lampoon them but by the end he had been won over by their warmth and friendliness.

Aw man so many people passing in the last few days.I was very sad about Paul Daniels. He was a staple in my childhood on a Saturday night.
I was really sad about Paul Daniels as well. I don't particularly remember his show but I did meet him once. As a child, missing my front teeth, I was at the local bonfire night and he was lighting the bonfire. He came along the crowd and (as my Mum puts it) spotted a gap toothed child grinning up at him. He then asked if I'd been kissing the boys. When I replied that I hadn't he then said "Ah, My Mum said I'd lose my front teeth if I kissed the boys". It took me about 10 years to get that joke!!
Saw today that the lovely funny YA author and comedian Louise Rennison has died. So sad. She had some terrific titles for her books... Withering Tights... Just makes you smile reading them.
After a long battle with Alzheimer's, Barry Hines, the Yorkshire author who wrote the novel on which Ken Loach's film Kes was based, has died aged 76. From BBC news.

The problem is that Brussels has a very large Muslim population, as was said at the time of the Paris bombings. Add into that the free movement between states on mainland Europe and that is one hell of an area to police.I am very saddened by today's events.
And remember the audience isn't in Europe, the audience is just as much in Syria and the Middle East. Hence the issuing of exaggerated figures for killed and wounded. They're telling their audience that they can hit the untouchable west (with two subtexts, the first that no other group has managed this, the second is 'so it's no point fleeing there')

Syria and the middle east. But there is still a considerable number of people in Daesh controlled areas, and of course they've got a target audience in Iraq as well. But they're also speaking to people in Saudi who previously were sponsoring Bin Laden because they want the money to come their way, people in Libya who're wondering which way to jump and doubtless hoping that it'll impress people in Somalia and through North Africa and into Chad and Nigeria
