The Mourning Thread
On a lighter note, today is the last ever edition of the Independent newspaper. The front cover has a blank page with the words "Stop press" on it. Quite possibly it's first and last joke in its final edition. If they had made jokes like that when it was running, I might have bought it more often.
I remembered we tried it when it first came out, and gave up on it because it was so dour and seemed too independent to give in to the urge to write something fun :-(

I'm more upset at the death of Asad Shah, than I am over the death of a mediocre rag. After "Stop Press" it should read "Yes Please."

Yeh, agreed re Asad Shah, that's grim. Not too upset re the independent. I wrote them a letter once, they printed it, but they removed a few choice words and used my letter to argue the exact opposite point to the one I was making. I'm sure it really amused them but I never bought it again.
Apparently Patty Duke has just died, aged 69. She was the mother of Sean Astin - Sam in LOTR, and well known in her own right.
She was also known as Patty Duke Astin for a while as she was married to John Astin, who played Gomez Addams.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001157/?r...
Yes it is sad, used to see him in the High Street quite often with Mrs C, they lived just along the road by Muirfield GC. Very dapper and very pleasant.
It's sad, but the world would have been a poorer place without them both. Such a unique character and voice. Rest in peace Ronnie Corbett, in whatever giant armchair takes your fancy!
I just watched this clip, I hadn't seen before. Ronnie C interviewing Julie Andrews, played by Michael Palin.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWn-D...
Wonderful absurdity. Watch Ronnie trying desperately not to corpse.
Friend of mine shared it on facebook and it seemed just so appropriate.I also feel he'd have loved the fact that the Daily Telegraph had a two page tribute to him, and it was April 1st :-)
I've just seen it GL, I didn't realise she was as old as that. I used to watch This Morning before they moved back round the corner and she was a lovely lady and very well thought of.
I was listening to a discussion about her and I think it was Richard Madeley, said that she would do the on-air stuff then spend hours afterwards answering the phones in the back room.
"It's a wrap!" The voice behind Admiral Ackbar has become a force ghost...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-ca...
Apparently David Gest died yesterday, 'under unexplained circumstances'. Which means he was alone in a hotel room, and there was no obvious cause of death.
Kath wrote: "The world's full of people I've never heard of till they die."I was thinking that last week.
Kath wrote: "The world's full of people I've never heard of till they die."Absolutely, and I'm struggling to miss them.....
I've only heard of him because of the Big Brother thing where one of the contestants thought it was him who died when David Bowie's wife said "David's dead"
Until yesterday my only knowledge of David Gest was as the former Mr Liza Minelli. But according to the news he produced a Michael Jackson show, a Cliff Richard album and all sorts of other stuff.
Yeah, I was just reading the BBC article and he seems to have been quite successful in his own right. I suppose producers aren't usually well known it's the people they are producing for that get all the glory.

What a dreadful shame that a message of good will should act as an incitement to murder.
