Jay-me (Janet) | 3785 comments I don't watch any slops soaps or reality programmes so I have absolutely no idea who any of the people connected with them are. And they seem to be the majority of today's "celebrities"

Actually, I second that. I have no clue on actors and actresses either. I dread that 'who would you cast to play the parts of your characters in a film' interview question because I can't picture enough celebs to make up half the cast!

I knew about David Guest because ... the hair ... and I saw him on a programme about music at some point.

Cheers

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I think that Guest is the first "Celebrity" in here. Most of the others have been stars, some, if only in their own firmament.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Gareth Thomas has died, aged 71. He was Blake in Blakes 7, among many other things.

Pam Baddeley | 3341 comments Just read about this on another site - BBC News. Loved Blake's 7 despite the wonky sets.

message 156: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It had the most ridiculous ending, though. I hope Gareth Thomas's was better thought through.

Heart failure, from what I read. Not sure whether that was thought through or not.

It really was one of Terry Nation's high point from a writing perspective. There have been a number of discussions about a remake, but nothing has surfaced.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Short of a mass resurrection, there'll be no sequel. And us oldies wouldn't watch a remake.

They're never the same, and certainly never better.

Pam Baddeley | 3341 comments Paul Darrow was once keen on a follow up about young characters who take on the mantle, perhaps with Avon and possibly Vila, both having survived the ending of the original series, but nothing ever came of it.

Jim | 21817 comments She did a film set in Barrow in Furness

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housewi...

So quite a few people locally met her

http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/barrow/...

I suppose you're not surprised to note that I've never seen the film or met her but my Lady Wife enjoyed the film

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments That film was really good, so was the musical she wrote about the Manchester children's choir 'That Day We Sang' She was a very talented lady.

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments Victoria yesterday Prince today, whats going on with celebs this year ?

message 188: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's just us getting older. At one time, the old people died. Now we're the old people and our contemporaries are dying. I'm learning to accept that I'm too old to die young.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12642 comments eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) wrote: "Victoria yesterday Prince today, whats going on with celebs this year ?"

It does seem worse than previous years, never a fan of him but sad to die so young

Exactly.
When Ginger Rogers died most of us barely noticed.
Firstly 'culture' is probably getting more homogenised so a wider range of people recognise individual celebs.
Secondly there are probably more celebs.
Thirdly we're older so more people we know are dying

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments We missed one. Percy Sledge died on the 14th.

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Arguably a lot of us could identify more with Victoria Wood - I don't know much about Prince, (except that he sang) but I doubt he possessed a uniquely British sense of humour. She was one of my favourite comedians.

Jim | 21817 comments M T wrote: "I could never get into Prince but I'm gutted about Victoria Wood."

I couldn't name a single track of his, but then I suspect we don't take a lot of notice of singers younger than we are :-)
