You can't beat that title.

LOL, I know. You should look at the title of the second book. I'm telling my husband all the funny Jewish references since he's Jewish and can appreciate them.

Okay, I just downloaded "Mrs. Kaplan. . ." to my Kindle. Who could resist that title?

I have a bunch of them on my Nook. There was a recent sale on all but 3 of them. I may read one next. Sadly book 1 in the series was not part of the sale, nor was the book you are reading.. Book 3 of the 10 books was also not part of the sale.

I cant seem to get into, but I will read it! lol. I am not sure what the issue is. I have read 95 books so far since January 1, and can say that maybe 3 of those I really didn't care for, and this is one of them. Oh well :)

message 213: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 40 comments I'm currently working my way through the entire Murder She Wrote series. I 'inherited' the ebooks from an elderly friend and have since bought the rest. My Mom and I were huge fans of the original series, so we are both enjoying these reads. I also have the audiobooks for later (I'm losing eyesight, so reading will becomes more difficult as time goes on). Donald Bain continues to put out at least one book a year in this series, although his daughter is now sharing credits occasionally. Currently on Book 10. There are 45 in the series now.

I have 3 books left of the Amanda Pepper series (Gillian Roberts). The author appears to have retired from writing.

Love it. The first one, Tagged for Death, was nominated for an Agatha award - that's how I discovered it. This series is one of the very few that I pre-order. It was downloaded on my Kindle and I started reading the newest one the day it was released.

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 1290 comments Add me to those singing the praises of Sherry Harris's series. All three are well worth reading, and it's best to read Tagged for Death first anyway.

In fact, it's on my list of books read this week.

Mary (mw8019) | 273 comments I have finished the two featured books for May, also finished the two books for my monthly challenge, plus I got in between one more book for my 2000 challenge. I have been a reading machine only because my hip has been giving me some problems and I might need to go back for more surgery. I have been spending a lot of time in the doctor's office getting reading done!

I have to go to my TBR list now, I have not been on that list for awhile.

Happy reading everyone!

Within the last month I've found a couple of series that I really enjoy.

The Gaslight Mystery by Victoria Thompson - Sarah's an interesting woman and I enjoy the setting.
Murder on Astor Place (Gaslight Mystery, #1) by Victoria Thompson Murder on St. Mark's Place (Gaslight Mystery, #2) by Victoria Thompson

Sam Clair by Judith Flanders. I love Sam - she's cynical and snarky, and very human.
A Murder of Magpies by Judith Flanders A Bed of Scorpions by Judith Flanders

I was disappointed in Journey to Munich (Maisie Dobbs, #12) by Jacqueline Winspear , the latest Maisie Dobbs book. The writing was as good as usual, but (view spoiler) There was also a plot point that I found preposterous, (view spoiler) Overall, I have mixed feelings about the book. I'll try the next one, to see if it improves.

message 235: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Hi, just found this group and I am an avid cozy reader. The latest cozy I finished was The Cracked Spine by Paige Shelton The Cracked Spine (Scottish Bookshop Mystery #1) by Paige Shelton To me this almost read more like a mystery than a cozy. All the cozy elements were there but something about it. Maybe the atmosphere of the book just drew me in from the beginning and there was something about it that made me not want to finish because then it would be over. I can't wait for more books to be added to the series but since this just came out well.......I picked this book for a May twins read and my twin is also enjoying it. The blurb on the back page gives a insight into the book and there are so many possibilities for future books.

I am in a minority here, because I REALLY didn't like that one!

message 239: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Melodie, I have been in the minority a number of times. Mainly because because I said books in a series by established authors weren't up to par and seemed like they were written by someone else. I even had a friend stop talking to me because of it. We all have our own likes and dislikes. That's what makes discussions fun. Good for you for voicing your opinion and not just keeping quiet.

I am in the minority as well as I really love the author but the book/series was so far out there. I know others who love this series, though, as it is sort of cozy/fantasy-ish, if there is such a genre. LOL

Not sure if it is cozy, but two flat out fantasy mystery series are the Lord Darcy series by Randall Garrett and Glen Cook's Garrett, P.I. series.

Welcome to the group, Suzanne!

If I remember right, there are series written by an author using a pseudonym that are turned over to another author while keeping the pseudonym.

I thought that same thing with the Savannah Reid books by G.A. McKevett. The last 3 books I read in the series didn't have the same "voice". It was like someone else wrote them. I haven't heard anything about someone else taking the series over and I'm a few books behind, so maybe they've changed again. That's awful that someone would stop talking to you over something like not agreeing with them about a book!

In 2016! I would really, really like to complete the series by Joanne Fluke Hannah Swensen. I have been trying to sit down with these for a few years now. But with sooo many books and soo very little time... I am determined to read them all; okay, to at least get them started!

message 248: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 410 comments I've been on a thriller/mystery kick lately so my cozy reading has slowed down a bit. That's typical for me as my cozy reading may ebb and flow. Currently, I am reading Off the Books (Novel Idea, #5) by Lucy Arlington . I used to love this series but have felt rather tepid or lukewarm to the past couple of books since the author has changed.

Julesy | 410 comments Suzanne wrote: "Haven't read this series, on my TBR list and have a couple already bought. How did the author change? Style or storyline?"

It was more of the writing style. Plus I grew to dislike the main character. She became whiny and complaining.
