Reap (Scarred Souls, #2) by Tillie Cole
Book: Reap by Tillie Cole
How it fits: Title begins with an R
Pages: 231
Date Read: March 2
Rating: 4*

Review: Raze and Reap are the first books I've read by Tillie Cole even though I've seen her books around for quite a while. After reading these two back to back, because they were so freaking good, I KNOW I will continue reading everything she writes! I usually stay away from books about the Mob...Russian, Italian whatever...there's no reason. I just never figured I'd like it. Well I was wrong!! I enjoyed the tightness and loyalty they have as family. The women aren't weak. They are VERY strong and make sure they are heard. And their men are impossible not to fall in love with. Plus, you can just tell how sexy they are. I HIGHLY recommend this series!!

An Early Wake (County Cork, #3) by Sheila Connolly

3rd in series
3/2/16
4 stars

I'm really enjoying this series even though the main character, Moira, is a little dull personality wise. But I love the pub in small town Ireland location. Wasn't much of a murder mystery in this one and the one that's there isn't even fully resolved. But Moira finally really makes a connection to new home and the people there. One of the reasons I first picked this series up is because it wasn't in first person which is one thing I don't like about cozies. (although I still read a lot of them). But even those it's not in 1st person, we never get the viewpoint of anyone but Moira. There's indication of a possible love triangle and I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't turn into the Irish version of the never ending love triangles of the Stephani Plum and Hannah Swenson books.

Finished 2/29/16

The Kowalski family is adorable and I enjoyed catching up with them. Ryan and Lauren's romance was a sweet second chance romance and I really liked the banter back and forth between the two of them. I am looking forward to Josh's story in the next book.

I might check out the alternate option as well.

message 320: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1 comments Jamie wrote: "I'd love a tip, those lists are endless sometimes!"

OK, here's an easy to go about it. Instead of checking the list to see if a book is on a listopia, you can check the book page to see the lists in which a particular book you want is listed.

How do you do that? Go to the book page and scroll down to "Lists with this Book". Usually two lists will show up so if the list you're looking for is not there, you click on "More lists with this book." Then you search the lists there - I click on Ctrl F on PCs and search for the list name. If I don't find it there, then I check the other pages. If you find the list and click on it, it will take you directly to your book and tell you what # is on the list.

Of course, you have to make sure that the book you're looking for fits the list to begin with i.e. a contemporary book won't be in the "Best Historical Romance" list. In the case of the 'Best Ever List', you probably won't find anything published very recently. :)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments When I look at the lists, if it's a vague one like"best book ever", I just bring up the list and speedily scroll down and look at the shelves part to see if I've shelved any. But I don't go through all the pages. It's easier when the list is more specific because you can just look at books that fit.

THIRDS team Destructive Delta is trying to gather up the remaining members of the Order of Adrasteia after the chaos and destruction left in their wake. Meanwhile, a group of Therian vigilantes known as the Ikelos Coalition is lashing out and keeping the war active between humans and therians. The team has also discovered they have a mole in their midst and are trying to uncover him/her.

I have loved this series so far. However, this one did not live up to it's predecessors. It was still good and very entertaining but it was short on 2 things that hooked me on the series. One- I was not rolling on the floor laughing for most of the book and Two- there wasn't enough action. Yes, it had humor and I did laugh a few times but it was a more serious book. There was more on the Romance front this time. I love Romance but I missed the crazy and stupid that Dex is known for. The action didn't really pick up until the end and it was just kind of rushed for me. I wanted more.

There was quite a cliffhanger and a lot is up in the air between the team members that leave me hoping the next books will bring me back to my happy place. Still enjoyable but not on scale with the first 2 books.

A beautiful book, as are all of the books in this series about Kyle, the HS nerd and his boyfriend Brad, the star baseball player. We've lived through the difficult year in which Brad realizes he's gay and in love with Kyle and the stand they take at their TX school and in their small town. This story revolves around the final 151 days Brad & Kyle will be in Foster and in HS. Suffice it to say it's not an easy 5 months. There are some tough topics in this book and the characters don't always act very admirably. Kyle, in particular, is shown to be less perfect than he is in the other stories. But the final message is very strong and quite beautiful. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars and almost gave it 5 at the end but there is a device used in this book wherein the story is told a few times from a few different points of view and I found that a bit repetitive and it was a distraction for me.

Deep Dark Secret (Secret McQueen, #3) by Sierra Dean (Secret McQueen #3)
Finished 3/6/16
Rating: ★★★★

Secret McQueen is a half-vampire and half-werewolf who has taken her place on the vampire council and is trying to give up hunting leaving her torn between the vampire and werewolf worlds. Secret is an awesome character and she loves to kick butt. Lucas is the werewolf king and one-third of a crazy love triangle with Secret and his second, Desmond. I really like Desmond and I hope she ends up with him. Lucas is trying to protect his pack and fight off a takeover but I did not like how he tricked Secret to help the pack. Holden asks for Secret's help in finding a missing were-ocelot who is a student at Columbia University which leads to discovering more missing girls and Secret's ex-boyfriend is the suspect. This installment was action-packed and I loved the cliffhanger ending.

Review: I did like this one but not as much as the first two. Pick had such potential... he had the faux hawk, tattoos, eyebrow piercing and was an amazing father. I just think I didn't love Eva enough to root for them. Although, she was WAY better in this book than Price of a Kiss. You definitely got to know why she is the way she is. She grew on me enough to enjoy the story. As usual, I loved seeing my other favorites from the Forbidden club. Still no one can touch my Noel Gamble!!!

Week 8
Spot 63

3rd in a series:

3 1/2 stars

The Fleet Street Murders (Charles Lenox Mysteries, #3) by Charles Finch

This was pretty good. Not my favorite of the series although the mystery was pretty clever. But the book isn't very long and I felt like the whole going to some new town so he can run for their newly vacant Parliament seat was filler just to make the book longer. That's the part that dragged for me, Lenox schmoozing the locals for votes only to lose the election anyway (sort of). I'd rather the author had beefed up the mystery and more of Jane and Charles' relationship instead of the election stuff.

Week 8 - Spot #: 63
Alternate: Best Book Ever List - #28,465, pg 286
Date finished/Rating: 3/10 ★★★½
Review: Cute book with an amazing narration. I was laughing out loud during most of it because of the characters' shenanigans. At the same time, I think there was a big switch in the book - Samuel went from being alone and nobody believing him to a whole posse. That strange, specially because of the friends reminded me of Hermoine and Ron. Even though this book is for children, the humor felt very adult at times. I think the author knows children get a lot more than we think they do. :)

Not sure I'll continue the series because the narrator is different but I totally recommend it for children. They'll have a blast, even if there's a lot of talk of physics.
