The book I'm reading also works for another challenge, so I'll be finishing it.

Week 10: Spot 96
Alternate: Text Item Mountain

Alternate: One was a radiant half disc high overhead, the other a pale crescent just rising to clear a crust of mountain. (pg. 109)

"The path climbed up the mountain, passing by the waterfalls and colossal trees." Page 123
I really like the unique concept of this series and the world building was great. All of the characters were interesting and likable. This story was an interesting mix of Urban Fantasy and Science Fiction with a little mystery thrown in and I enjoyed it. I definitely plan to continue with the series.

3.5 Stars, rounded up because the audio was so good.
This is actually a re-read for me but it's been 3 years since I've read it and I thought it was time to get back to the series. This time I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Khristine Hvam and she does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life.
Karou is a talented art student living in Prague. She has such a way with drawing characters and giving them stories that people almost believe they're real. For Karou, they are real and very much alive. These monsters that she draws raised her and are the only family she has. They are called Chimaera. But how did Karou, a human little girl, end up with them? And why are some things hidden from her? Is she who she seems? Meanwhile, around the world black handprints are appearing on doorways and sightings have been made of beautiful winged creatures in the sky.
I really enjoyed this book but there were a few times that it kind of dragged. I really wanted to roll my eyes at the beginning of what seemed like almost insta-love between Karou and Akiva. It wasn't immediate because they fought the first time but it felt very Twilight-ish to me. Luckily, there was more to it than meets the eye and we get a little more understanding later on. It was during the "other" part that things picked up again and I became engrossed in the story. And with an ending like that I will not be waiting around for the next book this time.

# on Dice: 12
Spot: 96 (Alt - text: mountain)

Astounding! by Kim Fielding
210 pgs / GR
How It Fits: Ch 3, 3 pgs left in chapter, You can do it with breathtaking mountain vistas in front of you...
Finished 3/27/2016
Rating: 4 stars
Like much of Kim Fielding's writing this is very real and yet very fantastic. The characters are endearing. Carter is the publisher of a failing spec fiction magazine and he's grown a bit despondent at the start of the story. While drunk he lashes out in writing at John, an unpublished author who sends him a manuscript every month. With the advice of his ex lover ringing in his ears, Carter decides to take action and meets with John and the adventure begins. The adventure involves a literal road trip as well as a change in Carter's life. The secondary characters are well drawn, the road trip is an entertaining way to keep them moving but most of all John is a beautiful soul and it was a lovely story to read.

PS... You’re Mine by [author:Alexa Riley|8296969
Pages: 128
Date Read: March 27
Rating: 4*
How it fits: "i keep chopping more wood, adding to the mountain I already have." Pg. 67
Review: This was a very short but steamy read. I have only read one other book by Alexa Riley before this and THAT one should've came with a cold shower warning! This was a little less smutty and had a cute little story of just a nice normal woman, a teacher, who has her class become pen pals with a overseas marine. She does it to and through letters they fall in love. I really enjoyed this little book.

Week 11 - Spot #: 96
Alternate: Text Item Mountain
"In some ways, memories were worse than the lash, for they led to thoughts of Askavi, with its mountains..." (pg 22)
Date finished/Rating: 3/28 ★★★★
Review: If you have a trigger, I can safely say this book had them all. I don't know that I've read such a dark fantasy story. It took a while to get the hang of everything - thankfully, I had the ebook too so could follow along - but once I did, I was engrossed. If only I had the next book in the series already!!!

Spot 96.
Alternate of mountains. Pgs 261 and 265.

3.5 stars

I don't know where to begin. Certainly not a literary masterpiece. Like I said earlier, this book reads a bit like an old 80's bodice ripper. I mean there were no rape scenes done for the heroine's own good. But for a modern woman in her 20's, Diana was just an idiot when it came to sex. Seriously, what woman in her right mind doesn't want a guy to go down town because it's too intimate? Diana acted like every run of the mill sex act was kinky and depraved.
But I liked the world building and I love the kidnapped by a hot alien trope. It is an entertaining read. I checked out book 2, Rejar and might read that if it works for an upcoming shelf call.
I actually read this book, oh about 10 years ago and I remember finding it at least entertaining. But I never did read another Dara Joy book. I remembered very little about this book. I mean like nothing but a bit of the sci-fi convention stuff at the beginning.
