5 stars

Loved it but then I don't think Maya Banks has disappointed me yet. Well there was one KGI book I didn't love. Anyway, loved Eveline, loved Graham. I could not put this audio book down to the point that I ended up with an earache from the earbuds. Only my 5 hour afternoon class yesterday saved my ears and kept me from finishing sooner. Great set up to a new series. Looking forward to Bowen and Teag's (spell?) stories but especially Rory's. Wish we had gotten to know Eveline's brother's more because I see one already has a book out and I'm sure the other one is coming.

Aww, I hate when that happens! There are so many great books out there that you don't want to waste time reading a bad one. Plus with all the challenges we do, you feel like you HAVE to finish it. Hopefully, your next book is waaay better!!

I love Maya Banks historical romance. Her erotica is crappy and KGI stopped being really good 2 books ago

D.G. | 1 comments The Cursed (League of the Black Swan, #1) by Alyssa Day
Week 1 - Spot #: 10
Series #: 1
Date finished/Rating: 1/17 ★★
Review: The Cursed was probably the most maudlin UF book I've read in my life. None of it made any sense and instead of feeling bad for these two, I wanted to slap them silly. I know having your parents abandon you is a horrible thing but lots of people lose their parents at an early age and they don't become pathetic ninnies. Luke's curse was completely laughable, the "funny" parts of the book were ridiculous and don't get me starting on all these people wanting Rio! I simply couldn't stand her. Instead of a grown woman, she seemed like tween who would lose her composure every time anybody would mention her parents or go whine in the rain when she didn't want to have a difficult conversation. If I hadn't been reading this for a few challenges, I would have dnf it.

Well I had expected it to have a decent plot. But it seems to be selling well, because she keeps churning them out while putting her HR in an indefinite hold. So I won't be reading her until she goes back to the genre I can enjoy

Red Rising Trilogy #1
Book: Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown by Pierce Brown

Finished: 1/20/16
Rating: ★★★★☆

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars for this but decided that the writing deserved 4 stars, if not 5. It's full of good quotable sentences and paragraphs. The story itself didn't feel very original because it reminded me of so many other great books. A sprinkle of Hunger Games, a dash of Lord of the Flies, a pinch of Game of Thrones, a smidge of Divergent, and so on makes up one batch of Red Rising.

I don't want to give too much away and the synopsis does a good job of laying the foundation. Darrow is a Red. After losing everything he becomes a Gold.

“I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war.”

“I was forged in the bowels of this hard world. Sharpened by hate. Strengthened by love.”

Golds are supposed to be the best of humanity but they are the worst. They are beautiful and strong, cunning and ruthless, arrogant and deceitful. They rule society in every way but things are about to change.

“Funny thing, watching gods realize they’ve been mortal all along.”

I'm looking forward to the next book and already have it downloaded. Darrow is moving up to the adult table and I have a feeling it's going to be even better!

Kiss of Snow (Psy-Changeling, #10) by Nalini Singh
Finished 1/20/16
Rating: ★★★★
Hawke and Sienna's story did not disappoint. It was fun to watch their cat and mouse game with each other and how they finally come together. Lara and Walker's side story was also sweet. I have found that I usually like the stories with Psy and Shifter relationships more than the other stories in this series. The war with the Psy increased the tension and I cannot wait to find out what happens next. I also really want to find out who the Ghost is. I enjoyed this installment and will most definitely continue with the series.

Finished: 1/20/16
Rating: 3.5 stars

I read a book later in this series years ago and I loved it but I was never that interested in the rest of the series. Now that the final book in the series is out I decided to go back and read all of them. I liked this one, I really liked Colin Eversea and the story is an adventurous romp. I also like Madeleine but I always question heroines who seem anachronistic and that is what Madeleine is. She is a mercenary/fixer and I never could believe she ran around doing what she does. There is also something I don't love about the narrative style but it grew on me. So, I will keep going with the series, hopefully book 2 soon when we get a roll that works!

Book: Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes

Rating & Review: ★★★½

Ughhhh I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I did not cry which seems weird given that everyone else did, and that I usually cry at all the things. I disliked the characters in so many different ways that I think I was disconnected emotionally from the book.

Without giving too many spoilers, hopefully, the things I disliked were:
- All the characters seemed so selfish. Will, both his parents, Treen, Patrick, Alicia and even Lou. Ahhh like no one cares about what their thoughts and actions will do to each other, it's like survival of the fittest or something. I was like why is everyone trying to change everyone. No one could accept anyone for who they were. It just was irritating.
- There was a short time in the book that I actually was extremely annoyed with Lou. Yes it was probably just ignorance for the situation but seriously, idk, I just had a lot of problems with her. I only felt bad for her during the beach scene when she let it all out, but then again she was so ignorant into thinking she was going to change someone.

I understand the concept of the book and as a whole I did enjoy the story line and plot. There just was so much I was frustrated with as a reader. It was kind of one of those books where I guess I'm glad I read it because it was an interesting story but I have no desire to read it again. I am interested to see what they do with the movie which I believe comes out this year though....
