By the time you pay the annual Amazon Prime fee, it all evens out in the end, I think, even when you pay for shipping instead. In fact it may be cheaper without Amazon Prime, depending on how much shipping you have to pay for.

Same with paying for Amazon movies individually. Seems to all even out.

Amazon Prime is too expensive for me. I'm usually not in a rush, so can build up my cart to get free shipping. If I do get in a rush, the kids have it, so I just get them to buy it for me. If it's raining, the boxes are delivered to our porch, anyway. They don't have a covered porch & the mailman knows us all. One of the nice things about rural life.

Sounds logical. If they raise the rate again next year we'll probably drop Prime.

We saw the new Fantastic Beasts movie last night & really liked it, although now we have to see the next. Too much left open. We had the movie theater to ourselves since they had no internet & could only accept cash or tickets from Fandango. They're splitting from Regal Cinemas & the new internet provider had an issue with their installation.

I really hope going independent works out for them. The best thing was the lack of loud, long, & annoying commercials at the start of the movie. There were a few trailers for new movies & then the movie started. That was so much nicer!

The snack bar was every bit as ridiculously priced, though. $10.50 for a small slurpee & a pack of Junior Mints. Tickets for 3 adults & 1 senior were $36, so not too bad.

No activity here - guess we haven't found any good movies or dvds. I know I haven't.

We are watching Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck for the 2nd time. I was writing my Christmas cards at the same time.

I'm still questioning why we have cable tv when the prices rise frequently. I know the answer. We have to get our tvs set up when we no longer have cable. I'll miss the music channel which we put on the tv in the living room so we can hear when cooking, cleaning, etc. Surely I can find something on the internet to stream over to my tv music wise.

I watched some stuff this past weekend. It was a long, quiet one for me since I also had Mon & Tue off while the girls were at the wedding in RI. I doubt any of you would appreciate what I watched, though. I know my wife wouldn't. It was wonderful not to hear any running commentary on my lack of taste.

The first episodes of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "Time Tunnel", & "Land of the Giants" - all SF Irwin Allen shows in the 1960s. He also did the original "Lost In Space" & that pretty much carried over to "Land of the Giants". Amazing similarities. I also watched both the pilot & first episodes of "Gilligan's Island" & the first couple of "My Favorite Martian".

I also got in a couple of movies. "Outland" stars Sean Connery as a marshal in a mining colony on Io, Jupiter's moon. He's up against a corrupt manager who is running a drug ring. "City Heat" stars Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, & Madeline Khan. It was a hoot.

Just mailed three huge boxes of gifts for fifteen of my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in ID and others in CA books etc. Lots of work to wrap and pack so resting on my laurels this afternoon. Of course that doesn't count the packages for the rest of the families/here and in VA..

Indeed - a very big job to sort and wrap. Everyone in my family are grown ups now - we do either a Secret Santa - or "Dirty" Santa (this is where you buy one gift put under tree, get a number to see who selects first, second, etc. and then you have the opportunity to "steal" gift from others. It can been a hoot).

Watched a good movie the other night; great acting British and the title is either, "The Holly and the Ivy," or the other way around. Ian Richardson was go good as a parson. One of the best "oldies" I've seen in a long time.

We watched "Die Hard" for Xmas. Hard to believe it's 30 years old already. Alan Rickman was great in it.

I agree about The Yearling. Very good & sad, both the movie & the book. I really prefer the book, though. I put it in the same niche as Where the Red Fern Grows & Old Yeller. At least Black Beauty has a happy ending. The puppy is a happy moment, but nothing compared to shooting Old Yeller. I've had to do that. It's terrible.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is another, newer animal book with a TJ rating. It's also really good.

The sequel to "Old Yeller," made the ending of the Old Yeller seem not so sad. Great ending and seemed to tie it all together. Old Yeller's pup proved to be a solution although most of the actors playing the same parts were different. Had to get adjusted to that.

I watched that not long ago and I agree. Great movie. Watched a couple of very early Shirley Temple movies last night. She was so talented. One of my CA friends knocked on her door when she was five years old and asked if Shirley could come out and play. The little girl's mother was in the car parked outside. They had just come from OK in the thirties and the girl's mother wanted her to meet Shirley. Shirley's brother answered the door and he called to say a little girl wanted to play with Shirley. And out she came and they just stood and looked at one another. Then Mrs Temple came out and my friend's mother and her began talking. My friend and Shirley did also. End of story except this incident was published in Reminince magazine.
