I just watched a great movie on YouTube (FREE!):YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6r1Y...
"Last Chance Harvey" (2008)
IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1046947/...
Stars: Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson
"In London for his daughter's wedding, a rumpled man finds his romantic spirits lifted by a new woman in his life."
Watched the old "DaVince Code," and it's still a good movie. And I really remember not being able to put it down one night when I read until midnight. Tonight watching another movie I'd seem some time ago; "Midnight in Paris." It was a fun movie.
Nina wrote: "Watched another good movie, "Since You Went Away," as it had very good acting; Monty Wooley, Shirley Temple, Jennifer Jones, and Joseph Cotten. All old actors but good ones."More than likely watched this as a youngster with my Dad. All good actors indeed.

Another oldie but goodie. Loved this movie.
It was truly one of the better ones; funny but touching. The old saying, "They don't make them like that any more" So true and isn't William the perfect funny gentleman?

Just saw this post. Like "romantic spirits lifted" - something enjoyable to watch and not feel down!!
My husband & I love "The Goodbye Girl" the original (Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason). A remake in came out in 2004 and we didn't and won't watch. Why ruin a good thing? I'm surprised we haven't bought the DVD yet. We have about 15 DVD's of favorite movies which can be watched over and over again, timeless.

I felt that way about the movie, "Overboard." I had remembered how good it was and ordered it again on Netflix and had no idea I had received the new version that wasn't good at all.
Joy, We are considering getting Streaming for our Netflix and I seem to remember that you suggested some movies that were good but I couldn't get because we didn't have streaming. Do you happen to remember any titles? If not, that's OK just thought I'd ask. We are trying to decide if they have movies we'd like as well as what we have now.
On the free thirty day trial on Streaming I watched "Mona" this afternoon. I really liked it. But, can't figure out why that title. It should have won the Oscar for best picture.

Nina,Here's a list of 189 books which were adapted to film. I didn't write reviews but I kept a list of the films I watched. Here's the link:

I made some comments in the "Shelves" column.
For example, I wrote that "Me Before You" was a good story.
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
About a Boy by Nick Hornby was also good.About a Boy (2002) - Stars: Hugh Grant
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276751/...
"A cynical, immature young man is taught how to act like a grown-up by a little boy."
Up at the Villa by W. Somerset Maugham was also good. It kept me watching.Up at the Villa (2000)
Stars: Kristin Scott Thomas, Sean Penn, Anne Bancroft
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0153464/...
"A widow finds choosing a new husband might not be her choice at all, as the actions of her various prospects confine her freedom."
Dodsworth by Sinclair Lewis was a good film adaptation. Also Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser. A touching story.
I appreciate all the mentions of films and books and I got the title wrong of the movie I thought was excellent; it's Roma, not Moma. It;s on netflix.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6155172/...
"A year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s."
It was mentioned at the Academy Award show.
PS - Wiki says: "Roma received a number of accolades, with ten nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress (Aparicio) and Best Supporting Actress (de Tavira)."It became the first Mexican entry to win Best Foreign Language Film, and also won for Best Cinematography and Best Director, becoming the first foreign language film to win in the last category, as well as marking the first time a director won Best Cinematography for their own film."
.... "directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also produced, shot, and co-edited it."
"It also won Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, ..."
"....a middle-class household in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City."

Yes, indeed. An oldie but goodie for sure!
I also watched another Shirley Temple movie on YouTube, "The Littlest Rebel". It held my attention!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lit...

I received a nice surprise from my friend, Ken. Namely, the PBS Master Piece Theater set of Downton Abbey! I have never seen all of it;just some episodes. Watched Season One last week; Season Two on tap starting tomorrow. I love the writing and acting. And, a feature length movie of Downton Abbey is in production; probable release date Fall, 2019. Fun!
That was a great series, Mary. Enjoy! We surely did. I'm not so sure I want to see a movie made so long after. I'll have to see who is starring in it. It has a really tough bar to clear.
Loved "The Littlest Rebel," but my all time favorite was "Heidi," and little did I know then I would visit those Alps in Switzerland and France so many times as I had three grandchildren born in France; two in the Alps.
One of my very favorites; I watched every one and was so sad when it ended but it is supposed to come again; perhaps next fall.
I started watching "Them" (1954), the first of the big bug SF films of the 1950s last night. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them!_(...
It's fun & has some great actors in it: James Whitmore, Edmund Gwenn, Joan Weldon, & James Arness. Gwenn was Santa in Miracle of 34th Street & Arness played Marshall Dillon of Gunsmoke for 20 years. Hard to think of the latter as anything except in that role. In this one, he's the tough sergeant cop, so not too different. There are brief appearances by some other actors that went on to fame like Leonard Nimoy & Dick York.
I might watch Tarantula (1955) & The Deadly Mantis (1957). I remember the former pretty well, but I don't remember the latter at all. I'm sure I saw it at some point. I loved these movies as a kid.

Jim, my husband loved those movies as a kid. As for me, probably too scared to watch! Now, they are fun to watch.
