message 1068: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I was interested in your review, Joy. It possibly explained the theory better than the movie version. I once asked our Parish Pastor why bad things happen to good people and his answer was, "You won't know the answer to that until you die." I also wonder as the concept that when someone is spared; like their life during a hurricane or fire or tornado they almost immediately say, "Thank God." So they thank God for sparing them but what about the people who weren't spared or houses weren't etc. Should they blame God for not sparing them"

message 1069: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, the classic answer to all of that is: "IT'S A MYSTERY!" :)

message 1070: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes it remains a mystery and perhaps our pastor is correct by saying we won't know the answer until we die. But, will we know then? And sad to say I can't get movie "Louisa" on our Netflix as it sounds like one I'd like.

message 1075: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just watched an old Disney movie "Victory Through Air Power" 1943. The first part was fantastic. It gave a great overview of the history of flight as only Disney could do it. The second half was pretty much a propaganda flick, though. Still interesting.

It's really incredible how fast & far planes developed from the Wright brother's flight in 1903. There was a short cartoon sketch showing how their first flight, all 120' of it, could fit on one wing of a WWII bomber with room to spare.

Another cartoon sketch showed the first flight across the US. The pilot was followed by a train with spare parts & tools. A good thing since he had about as many crashes as landings. By the time he got to CA, only a couple of pieces were still the original plane!

Stars: Alexander de Seversky, Art Baker, Billy Mitchell

message 1078: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's not all animated. It's a hybrid with some animations, some clips, & some live action. That helps make it even more interesting.

message 1079: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, Jim, I understood that.

message 1080: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I recently put together a list of all the Disney movies & one of the lists I used made a big deal out of the difference between 'animated' & 'hybrid'.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

It's kind of weird because I had to meld the above list with this one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
to get all the movies. While "Victory Through Air Power" is listed as a hybrid in the first list, it's also listed on the animated list, so that can lead to confusion.

It's pretty incredible how many movies they've made, about 450. I remember a lot of them & have seen many of the new ones, but certainly not all.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I watched "The Molly Maguires" (1970) last night. It stars Sean Connery & Richard Harris. Great movie. It's about 2 Irish immigrants trying to make a living in the US. Sean Connery is a miner rebelling for better treatment in the coal mines of PA in the 1800s while Richard Harris is a detective sent in as a spy to get him. Fantastic!

At least with Amazon Prime with purchases from Amazon online - all shipping is free.

Netflix - allows you to put services on hold for a period of time. I may do that for a few months.
