Sarah | 18549 comments Whoops I see now CHerie has covered the Temeraire options.

Thanks for the cup ideas. Classics are not for me unfortunately. I'll check out the time travel one Janice although you gave it 3 stars?! Would Harry Potter...Goblet work for this is it not what you were looking for? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

I have just found this though which sounds like it might be interesting - A Cup of Friendship - my library has it on audio.

message 52: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?

As far as agriculture The Good Earth I have yet to read it but many friends have and many 4 and 5 star ratings

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Can I ask for non-spoiler answers to where Trapped is set please? I read a quick part of the blurb that suggested that they may be in a country that counts for the challenge.

Thank you but I have already read this one and really liked it

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Ariane, my local library search suggest these title for fiction-agriculture. I didn't read any of them (not even the blurb yet). Maybe it's useful:

The Grapes of Wrath (ETA: it seems more about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl migration)
Raised from the Ground (ETA: looks good, but more about farmers than agriculture, it seems)
The Witch of Hebron: A World Made by Hand Novel (ETA: Oh, this is post apocalyptic, but it seems to have the agriculture as one of its centers)
(Never mind, not very useful I guess)

On the other hand, I read The Orchardist, 5 stars IMO. He only do fruit trees, that's it. Not sure if it is enough agriculture. Maybe you'll need to ask Janice.

Harvest by Jim Crace is centred around the 'Enclosure Act' which fenced off land used for growing crops and things. I am going to be reading it for the agriculture task in my challenge.

Ariane - Check out Raised from the Ground by José Saramago for agriculture.

I read it but I can't remember!

I let Google refresh my memory, and it's partly set in Greece. I think it covers the 60% rule, but I'm not entirely sure anymore. Someone else maybe?

I did enjoy it, but I had a bit of trouble suspending disbelief. I do want to read the next book in the series, if that means anything.

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Sarah wrote: "I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?"

Yes, I think you could use Jurassic Park for fossils. They start out at a dig and there are fossils in the buildings at the park. I'm not sure about Lost World since I haven't read it.

Thanks, Janice and Ariane. I think I have The Song of Achilles on my Kindle. I think I got it for a challenge this past year, but didn't get to it. Maybe I'll go with that one.

I'm not much of a classics fan, though I do read them occasionally. I haven't read Jane Eyre. I'm not sure if it would be something I'd be really interested in.

Is Outlander a love triangle? I thought it was, but haven't read it.

Kind of. Claire is married in the 1940's. When she time travels back to 1700's Scotland she meets Jaime and is forced to marry him. She's always kind of conflicted with her marriage. It's like she's a widow.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Kristie wrote: "Is Outlander a love triangle?"

There is a love triangle of sorts in Outlander. It is a fabulous book/series and would definitely fit the 'great romance' task. I've just finished watching the TV series for the third time. Me thinks I might be a bit obsessed!

I was going to say the same thing. It's partly in Arizona, partly in Greece, and partly in Tír na nÓg. I don't remember how much time is spent in each, but I think it was mostly in Greece. I can't be sure. It's been a long time since I read it.

I think it depends on the edition you get. It looks like some of them have fossils (or skeletons??) on the cover. Tough call.

Janice - Would bones, in general, work for this one?

I know I'm obsessed which is why I'm not reading/watching any further. It's not good being in love with a fantasy.

There are two tasks regarding fossils - Canada (read a book about dinosaurs (living or fossil), and Demark (read a book about fossils)... so bones don't work.

The one in Canada must be about dinosaurs which are either alive and eating, or dead and fossilized. The one in Demark is about fossils so could be about a paleontologist, archeologist, a dino-dig, a museum in which fossils are significant etc. It could be a non-fiction book about the study of fossils.

message 76: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments The task which requires the book to have caves in it - I'm thinking all three of the Lord of the Rings books would count as there are various caves. Would you agree? I remember caves from the films but I've not read the books.

Have you watched the first season of Outlander now Janice? What did you think of it? I actually preferred it to the book in some ways. I mean, I love them both but I felt there were a few things that the show did better.

It's definitely not good being in love with a fantasy. Still, we can all dream right? ;)

message 78: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Thanks Peggy, Kristie and Cherie. I'll add it as a Greece option. After I asked this question, I worked my way around the other 4 bookshelves in the house (this was on bookshelf number 2) and found Alexander on another one, which is definitely Greek.

...

I just remembered there is another bookshelf I didn't check!!!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The Clan of the Cave Bear came to mind Sarah, but I am not sure about it for you. Maybe the The White Dragon. This is the first one I read, regardless that it is considered book #3 now. Caves and dragons galore! I cannot think of any others specifically. They spend a LOT of time in a cave in The Iron Druid book that Rusalka asked about, Trapped.

edit. Check this one out, Sarah. The Caves of Tavannar

Thanks, Janice. I should have looked at it more closely. I thought it was on the cover, not in the book. Makes a big difference.

Sarah | 18549 comments Well I may well get to Trapped next year to use for Caves, otherwise book 2 or 3 of Lord of the Rings. I've wanted to read them all for ages so perhaps 2016 will be the year. Thanks for the other cave recs - I'll check them out.
