Help! I need a book set in....
I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?
Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"As far as agriculture The Good Earth I have yet to read it but many friends have and many 4 and 5 star ratings
Can I ask for non-spoiler answers to where Trapped is set please? I read a quick part of the blurb that suggested that they may be in a country that counts for the challenge.
Travis of NNY wrote: "Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"As far as agriculture The Good Earth I have yet to read it but many friends ..."
Thank you but I have already read this one and really liked it
Ariane, my local library search suggest these title for fiction-agriculture. I didn't read any of them (not even the blurb yet). Maybe it's useful:The Grapes of Wrath (ETA: it seems more about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl migration)
Raised from the Ground (ETA: looks good, but more about farmers than agriculture, it seems)
The Witch of Hebron: A World Made by Hand Novel (ETA: Oh, this is post apocalyptic, but it seems to have the agriculture as one of its centers)
(Never mind, not very useful I guess)
On the other hand, I read The Orchardist, 5 stars IMO. He only do fruit trees, that's it. Not sure if it is enough agriculture. Maybe you'll need to ask Janice.
Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"Harvest by Jim Crace is centred around the 'Enclosure Act' which fenced off land used for growing crops and things. I am going to be reading it for the agriculture task in my challenge.
Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"Ariane - Check out Raised from the Ground by José Saramago for agriculture.
Rusalka wrote: "Can I ask for non-spoiler answers to where Trapped is set please? I read a quick part of the blurb that suggested that they may be in a country that counts for the challenge."I read it but I can't remember!
I let Google refresh my memory, and it's partly set in Greece. I think it covers the 60% rule, but I'm not entirely sure anymore. Someone else maybe?
Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"A Painted House
Blackberry Wine
The Good Earth
Sarah wrote: "Whoops I see now CHerie has covered the Temeraire options. Thanks for the cup ideas. Classics are not for me unfortunately. I'll check out the time travel one Janice although you gave it 3 stars?!..."
I did enjoy it, but I had a bit of trouble suspending disbelief. I do want to read the next book in the series, if that means anything.
Sarah wrote: "I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?"Yes, I think you could use Jurassic Park for fossils. They start out at a dig and there are fossils in the buildings at the park. I'm not sure about Lost World since I haven't read it.
Janice wrote: "It's a bit of a chunkster, but Antony and Cleopatra.Jane Eyre
The Song of Achilles
Outlander"
Ariane wrote: "I was going to say The Song of Achilles if you haven't read it yet"
Thanks, Janice and Ariane. I think I have The Song of Achilles on my Kindle. I think I got it for a challenge this past year, but didn't get to it. Maybe I'll go with that one.
I'm not much of a classics fan, though I do read them occasionally. I haven't read Jane Eyre. I'm not sure if it would be something I'd be really interested in.
Is Outlander a love triangle? I thought it was, but haven't read it.
Kristie wrote: "Is Outlander a love triangle? I thought it was, but haven't read it. "
Kind of. Claire is married in the 1940's. When she time travels back to 1700's Scotland she meets Jaime and is forced to marry him. She's always kind of conflicted with her marriage. It's like she's a widow.
Kristie wrote: "Is Outlander a love triangle?"There is a love triangle of sorts in Outlander. It is a fabulous book/series and would definitely fit the 'great romance' task. I've just finished watching the TV series for the third time. Me thinks I might be a bit obsessed!
Peggy wrote: "Rusalka wrote: "Can I ask for non-spoiler answers to where Trapped is set please? It's partly in Arizona, partly in Greece, and partly in Tír na nÓg. I don't remember how much time is spent in each, but I think it was mostly in Greece. I can't be sure. It's been a long time since I read it.
Sarah wrote: "I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?"I think it depends on the edition you get. It looks like some of them have fossils (or skeletons??) on the cover. Tough call.
Janice - Would bones, in general, work for this one?
All these paibting books added to my wishlist. Now a few years from now I'll probably be looking through my wish list asking why on earth did I add these titles. I know from exoerience of lookong for challenge books at other times.
Janice wrote: "Ariane wrote: "Does anybody have an idea for a book with agriculture? Or with a vacation in the mountains?"A Painted House

Thank you, Janice!
Rusalka wrote: "Can I ask for non-spoiler answers to where Trapped is set please? It is hard to keep track because of they way they go between planes.

I know I'm obsessed which is why I'm not reading/watching any further. It's not good being in love with a fantasy.
Kristie wrote: "I think it depends on the edition you get. It looks like some of them have fossils (or skeletons??) on the cover. Tough call. Janice - Would bones, in general, work for this one?

There are two tasks regarding fossils - Canada (read a book about dinosaurs (living or fossil), and Demark (read a book about fossils)... so bones don't work.
The one in Canada must be about dinosaurs which are either alive and eating, or dead and fossilized. The one in Demark is about fossils so could be about a paleontologist, archeologist, a dino-dig, a museum in which fossils are significant etc. It could be a non-fiction book about the study of fossils.
The task which requires the book to have caves in it - I'm thinking all three of the Lord of the Rings books would count as there are various caves. Would you agree? I remember caves from the films but I've not read the books.
Janice wrote: "I know I'm obsessed which is why I'm not reading/watching any further. It's not good being in love with a fantasy"Have you watched the first season of Outlander now Janice? What did you think of it? I actually preferred it to the book in some ways. I mean, I love them both but I felt there were a few things that the show did better.
It's definitely not good being in love with a fantasy. Still, we can all dream right? ;)
Thanks Peggy, Kristie and Cherie. I'll add it as a Greece option. After I asked this question, I worked my way around the other 4 bookshelves in the house (this was on bookshelf number 2) and found Alexander on another one, which is definitely Greek. ...
I just remembered there is another bookshelf I didn't check!!!
The Clan of the Cave Bear came to mind Sarah, but I am not sure about it for you. Maybe the The White Dragon. This is the first one I read, regardless that it is considered book #3 now. Caves and dragons galore! I cannot think of any others specifically. They spend a LOT of time in a cave in The Iron Druid book that Rusalka asked about, Trapped.edit. Check this one out, Sarah. The Caves of Tavannar
Cherie wrote: "They spend a LOT of time in a cave in The Iron Druid book that Rusalka asked about, Trapped. "ooo noted. Thanks.
Since I did not know Janice's cryptic "You've got to know where this inspiration comes from." in the task under Chili for - Read a book that is a Rita Award winner or nominee, I went to Google. Romance fiction, figures. Not ONE on my TBR list, he he he.Here is a link for a list. https://www.rwa.org/p/cm/ld/fid=535
It is named for the RWA's first president, Rita Clay Estrada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Cl...

Thanks, Janice. I should have looked at it more closely. I thought it was on the cover, not in the book. Makes a big difference.
Lisa wrote: "Have you watched the first season of Outlander now Janice? ."Yes, I've watched the first season. There were things I liked about the tv series and things I didn't. I didn't like how they changed the ending from the time that Jamie (view spoiler)
I really liked the casting of all the characters.

Lisa wrote: "I could use a bit of help. Does anybody know any books with the word 'Scarab' in either the title or subtitle?"The Clockwork Scarab is actually on my tbr! It's the first in a series (groan, another series).
Well I may well get to Trapped next year to use for Caves, otherwise book 2 or 3 of Lord of the Rings. I've wanted to read them all for ages so perhaps 2016 will be the year. Thanks for the other cave recs - I'll check them out.
If someone's looking for caves, Dragonsong might work too. Although someone should confirm this, just in case.
Cherie wrote: "Janice - would you consider Like Water for Chocolate for "great love"?"Yes, I think it would work.
Peggy wrote: "Does anyone know whether The Girl on the Cliff is set in Ireland for at least 60%?"I found this in a review, "Ireland is a character itself, vibrant and beautiful... would LOVE to visit there one day *dreamy sigh* There's just.. something about it<3." I think you're safe.
I found Mrs. Mike for set in Alberta, possibly. The description says Canadian wilderness but googled books set in Alberta and Mrs. Mike was mentioned as set in Alberta. Janice, would Mrs. Mike count for set in Alberta? Sorry on the app, so I can't link it :(
The books set in website mentioned at the beginning of this thread has books set in Alberta. I have one listed for Alberta that Janice recommended to me. I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head but it's listed in my challenge thread.
I have two books that I know are set in Alberta - Love By Accident (which I've read 2 or 3 times) and Fear of Flying.

I have just found this though which sounds like it might be interesting - A Cup of Friendship - my library has it on audio.
