Help! I need a book set in....
Lori Z wrote: "..So, anyone have a recommendation for a book with a devout character? ...."Maybe Breakfast with Buddha?
Works for "where the main character spends a lot of time on the road" also.
Janice wrote: "Sarah wrote: "I'm struggling find something with a bowl or cup on the front cover that I'd actually like to read. Any ideas?"The Last Chinese Chef is on my audible wishlist.

I loved [book:The Last Chinese Chef|554865] and noticed it's on sale at Amazon for e-book today:)
Does anyone remember if any of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency novels include a visit to Victoria Falls?
Janice wrote: "Lori Z wrote: "Janice, is this more what you were thinking for devout? Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War. These 4 women risk everything to fight ..."Thanks for the list, that helped a lot! So just to make sure I'd be good with at least one of these?
The Scarlet Letter
Pope Joan
Agnes of God
At Home in Mitford
Sorry to be a pain, but if you can't tell, I'm kind of obsessing about this right now, lol.
Lisa wrote: "I could use a bit of help. Does anybody know any books with the word 'Scarab' in either the title or subtitle?"
The Clockwork Scarab byColleen Gleason A book about a girl who is the niece of Sherlock Holmes.

Sarah wrote: "I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?"
Plaza: An Archaeological Thriller by Shane M. Brown might deal with fossils. It is an archeological thriller that has been on my TBR for awhile.

I am looking for a book involvong the tower of london. The third Matthew Shardlake book is on a listopia for tower of london. It is also next in the seriez for me. Can anyone confirm this or Janice does this description fit the criteria Sovereign
Travis of NNY wrote: "I am looking for a book involvong the tower of london. The third Matthew Shardlake book is on a listopia for tower of london. It is also next in the seriez for me. Maybe Lisa or Tasha could confirm since they have both read it.

Thanks Janice. I actually woukd think the entire Shardlake series would involve the tower aince thats where his orders come from but Lisa or Tasha probably would know better
Travis of NNY wrote: "I am looking for a book involvong the tower of london. The third Matthew Shardlake book is on a listopia for tower of london. It is also next in the seriez for me. Can anyone confirm this or Janice..."Yes, the Tower of London does appear in Sovereign. A fair chunk of the book takes place in the city of York but the Tower makes an appearance later on.
Janice wrote: "I haven't started the series so was just looking to see what task the first book might fit."It would fit 'a book set in England' task. I seem to remember the River Thames appearing briefly so it might fit the 'significant river' task if that's enough of an appearance to count. It's also set largely in a monastery and a shrine or shrines appear on a couple of occasions so it might also fit the 'shrine' task.
@Lori, My pick for "devout character" was Gilead. It's a re-read for me, so I can say for sure that the MC is a devout character. If you have already read it, the other 2 books in the series could work too.
Here's one for fossils - Mountains of Madness:: A Scientist's Odyssey in Antarctica. I was looking at it for mountain vacations and it's more a search for a fossil. Non-fiction Set in Antarctica
I just set my sitesIt took me a lot of work .. And yet not sure if my choices are good or not !
But sure now I have a good reason to buy more books :P
And yet need help in books set in Chile, Netherland, France, Afghanistan, Mali, and Papua New Guinea.
One set in a university "Already read Fangirl"
One about caves
Any good recommended title would be great :D
Suzanne - nope, I don't think so. I've read them all and don't recall any mention of Victoria Falls.Rex Stout wrote a book where Nero Wolf and Archie go to the Maldives and climb up into the mountains to a cave where some bad guys were. It was not a vacation though, more of a pilgrimage. I think it was called The Black Mountains.
I swear, all I have are are tragedies that occurred in the mountains, no vacations at all!
@CfDeeDee - check out the website http://www.bookssetin.com/ for some ideas on the books set in those countries. There are bound to be some. Off the top of my head, for Afghanistan, anything by Khaled Hosseini; The Miniaturist is set in the Netherlands; the Chocolat series for France.
@CFDeeDee, The Winter Ghosts is set in France. I read it about three years ago and really enjoyed it. It's quite a short book too.
Travis of NNY wrote: "I believe Still Life With Crows pendergast #4 has caves"It was White Fire I believe. The main character was Corey in that book.
Just realized Trail of Broken Wings (the GR nominee I'll be reading for this month challenge) has 1 of the three MC who is a photographer. This is one of the tasks (Brazil?).
Sandra wrote: "Just realized Trail of Broken Wings (the GR nominee I'll be reading for this month challenge) has 1 of the three MC who is a photographer. This is one of the tasks (Brazil?)."It's Rio de Janeiro for that task.
Hi Janice, I need a ruling on this cover
. Is it red enough to be 70%? I cannot decide and you can shoot me down if needed. ;) If no, where can I apply it?

I don't know if I'll use it for the challenge but I do want to read it.
Cherie wrote: "Hi Janice, I need a ruling on this cover

Whaat, Cherie, you're asking Janice to tell you where to apply a book you want to read? That's your job : )
You think it's a wolf, Cherie? Or a gargoyle (statue tasks)? Setting says it's Italian.A good 5 options there for you if it's not red enough.
Oh and maybe devout people. " Italian republicans strangle priests with their own intestines. " sounds pretty devout...
Rusalka wrote: "Oh and maybe devout people. " Italian republicans strangle priests with their own intestines. " sounds pretty devout..."ROFL! I think my Italy task is full. I will have to think about where I will add it. I think it may have to sit on my book shelf for another year.
I guess I have another to offer to Miss Meanie. Does this fit for the painting task in France? The Bellini Madonna: A Novel
Rusalka wrote: "You think it's a wolf, Cherie? Or a gargoyle (statue tasks)? Setting says it's Italian.A good 5 options there for you if it's not red enough."
I would like it to be a wolf, but I don't think so. I have a book for the "wildlife" task, with an Elk on it.

Cool, I am glad I re-read the posts. I own that one. Thanks, Jeannene!
Tejas Janet wrote: "Whaat, Cherie, you're asking Janice to tell you where to apply a book you want to read? That's your job : )"
No, I wasn't exactly asking Janice. I was hoping someone else would come up with something. bummer.
If anyone needs any more ideas for the 'painting' task, The Girl You Left Behind sounds like it will fit. One of the characters is an artist and a portrait he paints plays an important part in the story. I think it's the catalyst for many of the things that happen within the book.
Cherie wrote: "I would like it to be a wolf, but I don't think so. I have a book for the "wildlife" task, with an Elk on it. "
Yeah I was more leaning to the gargoyle than a wolf. Brazil or Greece then.
There's a task for a book set between 1800 and 1899 or something, I think for India. From the description it seems your book might fit there Cherie :)
Peggy wrote: "There's a task for a book set between 1800 and 1899 or something, I think for India. From the description it seems your book might fit there Cherie :)"Ah good one!
Travis of NNY wrote: "Thanks Janice. I would have said probably but I'm glad she confirmed it for you. :)

It could be loosely construed as a vacation. I think it would also fit (and perhaps better) for a pilgrimage. There's a task for that.
