J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments No, Mary, I seem to have a loose lip and need to curb my tongue before I get myself in trouble. I am known for that. I probably was ADHD when younger. Now that I'm older, I'm simply ADD [squirrel]. How I long for the H of my youth. Oh well. Thanks for your comments.

message 1407: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments You need to curb your tongue??? Gosh,I don't think so! The world needs people who are not afraid to put their head above the parapet, who are willing to call a spade a spade! The difference that you make is that you do all of the above with an underlying sense of delightful mischief!!!!
Bring it on,I say!!!
Life's short!!!

Goodness, you two! Let's talk a LITTLE about books, shall we?

Lenora, you have a great list of books. I've been curious about the Carrie Bebris mystery series based on all Jane Austen's books but the reviews are so mixed I'm not sure what to think. How did you like the two you read?

message 1411: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Jeanne,I do enjoy your comments and I think, along with fellow members of this site, that we are kindred spirits!!!

Debbie,am ready, willing and able to talk books☺️......I haven't read the Carrie Bebris series, but as a mystery lover,I'll definitely look into them.
Now on a totally unrelated topic,I'm off to cut some grass! Talk later!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Debbie...yes ma'am, Lenora...apologies, great list. I've not read Carrie Bebris...interesting.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I will say that I read a whole lot quicker when it's a 4- and 5-star book than when it's a 1- or a 2-star book. Happily, the last batch I read were all really good.

It seems as though A Remedy Against Sin: A Pride and Prejudice Variation hasn't caught fire yet, and I encourage my friends here to read my review and then read the book if you haven't yet. It's truly excellent, and it's an author's debut book- at least I THINK it is. There's nothing else on GoodReads or Amazon by Christina Morland.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Debbie, what would we do without you cheering us on?

message 1423: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Hey, you do plenty of cheering yourself. You DO realize I'm just getting onto GR old non-JAFF books that I read years ago, rught? I still have a huge pile I plug away on periodically. Old news. It was before I was rating or writing reviews, so I don't remember what most of them were about or even whether I liked them, but it's helpful to know that I have them in my kindle library, and GR is the easiest way to quickly check.

message 1424: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments I've read all Nora Roberts [last two trilogies crashed and burned for me], Christine Feehan [also crashed and burned], took spells with YA [read with my kids at school], and all but the last of Outlander Series. When I started listing books on my GR shelf, I went back and picked only those that I could find the review on Amazon. Maybe at another time I will try and update with an old list. So I have a few from 2015 and the rest are 2016.

message 1425: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I have the same situation. I began reading JAFF in 2004 but it was all paperbacks until I got a kindle about 2.5 years ago. I also retired at the end of 2012 and soon after resolved to post reviews on books I read PLUS discovered GRs and first the older Austen Authors' blog and Meredith's blog so things have multiplied exponentially since. There are so many historical romance authors I read before I found JAFF and I am now on the last of the Outlander books also. Judith McNaught and Kathleen E. Woodiwiss were my two favorite authors before JAFF and I read everything they wrote.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Sheila, I try to read P&P every year. That was my 'schools out for the summer' treat to myself. I discovered Darcy's Passions by Regina Jeffers quite by accident. I had no idea about JAFF and that was the pebble that started the avalanche.

From that point on, I've read everything I could get my hands on. I had no idea of my writing reviews. But, I had to start somewhere. I am so grateful to you for reaching out to me while we circled around each other in Amazon. And then you told me about GR...again, thank you. I've discovered lots of new book choices that I have thoroughly enjoyed and I've made lots of friends.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Wow, look at the 5 stars and 4 stars. Looks like we have some winners there. I am waiting to see what is selected for me in the Someone pick it for me for August group. Those first two are on my list of selections.

Good work at continuing to lead the pack. How's your golf game?

message 1436: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Too hot to play, with "real feel" temperatures above 105 around here. No wonder I'm getting so much reading in!

message 1437: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Debbie, we've had over 10 days with temps in the 90s and a heat index of over 100. I've tried to stay in and keep cool.

Sheila mentioned golf...we played once when it was so hot, I took a golf towel and dipped it in water, put it over my head and wore it like they do in the desert countries . I kept it in place with my visor. The air would then go through the water in the town and it was cooler as it blew on my face. We never did that again. I thought I was going to die.

message 1438: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I'm in a "Nine and Wine" league with a bunch of ladies that play 9 holes of golf every Tuesday. The course has carts with coolers that they fill with ice. The past few weeks, I've been putting a golf towel in it and let it get nice and icy wet, then put it around my neck. Heaven! When the towel gets warm, I put it back in the ice water for a few minutes and then put it back on my neck. Has gotten me through all 9 holes on a number of Tuesdays. But it was cancelled this week because of the heat advisory. : (

message 1440: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments While dating my husband he decided to take me out for my first full round of golf....on a day with a heat index of 112 degrees. I was stopping at every creek and pond and splashing my face with water. The golf pro said, "It must be true love"....for me to put up with that...but it never happened again - for sure!!! I started out carrying my bag but my "boyfriend" ended up carrying it before we got to the end.

message 1441: by Debbie (last edited Jul 29, 2016 01:44PM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I can stand it for 9 holes. My husband and I went out and tried to play 18 last weekend, and I quit after 15. My energy was totally sapped and I just couldn't swing another club. He finished, but I just sat in the cart in the shade.

Aaah Teresa, what you need to do is pick a day during the summer and celebrate your birthday. That way you can still celebrate during the Christmas holidays too. I know people that do that. It it a hoot. We celebrate as though it is in the summer. Give it a try and see if you don't enjoy it. Pass the joy...

message 1445: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Interesting thought J W. I think my family would think 'she's finally lost it' if I did something like that!!!

message 1446: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Perhaps... you may have to celebrate with a select few to start with. Thanks for the birthday wish.

message 1447: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Teresa, that is a problem with birthdays near Christmas. Mine was is in the summer so I never got to celebrate at school and we lived out in the country so no one was around to celebrate it with during the summer. Hope someone is helping you celebrate birthdays as an adult and giving you a separate present on that day.

message 1448: by Teresa (new)
