Ceri | 224 comments You are all so funny :-D

message 1252: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Ok, seriously folks, I LOVE laundry day! I get so much guilt-free reading done while clothes are in the washer and dryer. At the end of the day, our clothes are all clean, dry, folded and put away and I've read pages and pages. Win-win!!

message 1253: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments and with that, I have a load to put in the washer right this minute. Plus, I am having to charge the battery on my NOOK so I can finish my current read. That allows me to be on the computer while all this is going on.
Ceri, you can blame Sheila that I am on this site. Yeah, you can blame her. LOL!!!

message 1254: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Thank you, Sheila! Love having you here, Jeanne!

message 1255: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Dear me,and I naturally assumed that Mr Bennet's library was one of deep sophistication, respectability and decorum.......how wrong was I!!!! You guys are simply hilarious!!!!

message 1256: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Don't worry Mary, you caught us on a good day.

message 1257: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments What,pray tell,are you guys like,on a bad day?!?!Actuslly scratch that,I'm not sure I could cope with the answer!

message 1258: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments I haven't been here long enough to tell about the others. I just hope I don't pull down the standards. Then again, I love to laugh...couldn't resist.

message 1259: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments I know exactly what you mean!!!! Long may such laughter and playfulness continue!!!

message 1260: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments And the choir cheered!!

message 1261: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Unfortunately for anyone looking for sophistication, respectability and decorum in Mr. Bennet's library, Sheila and I were the first to get in. We quickly changed the atmosphere to suit ourselves.

message 1262: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Barb wrote: "I think you all might find this funny. I am in the process of adding several advanced reader copies to my to read list on GR. The last one I was adding was called Book of Joy. I did a search for Bo..."

Oh, Barb - I missed this when you first posted it. What an interesting coincidence!! And so perfect!

message 1263: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Debbie-you and Sheila changed the atmosphere??? Now,why do I not find that hard to believe!!!!

message 1264: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Whew, so see, you can't blame it on me.

message 1265: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Jeanne,I can clearly see you are totally innocent in this.....you're just spending too much time in Mr B's library and,I might add (tongue in cheek!), too much time in the questionable company of certain people, who shall remain nameless!!!!!

message 1266: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Oh...do you think?

message 1267: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Evidence kinda speaks for itself!!!

message 1268: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!!!!

message 1269: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Hey, it's not as though I'm walking around Mr. Bennet's library naked! (well, not usually, anyway) In the privacy of my own home, I can sit in my jammies and read all day with no shame whatsoever.

message 1270: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Ditto

message 1271: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...'
I couldn't even cast a piece of grit,not to mind a stone!!!!
Book of Joy indeed!!!!!

message 1272: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments No...that was he who lives in a glass house should put on clothes...wait, maybe that was don't throw stones. Whatever, I need that picture out of my head.

message 1273: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments The Lake House comes to mind - all glass there and while watching the movie I kept thinking how little privacy was there. Why would anyone want a house like that?

message 1274: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments You know, I loved that movie and it did not get good reviews. And I thought the same thing about the lack of privacy. I'd be OK during the day when I could see out. That night shot of him eating his supper showed the reflections of the inside of the house on the windows. I could not handle the not being able to see out. I couldn't do it. I'd have drapes or curtains of some sort installed to pull at night. Once the lights are off, then you can see outside. But, I couldn't do it.

message 1275: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I wouldn't want it to start with...I wouldn't like the idea of anyone seeing in at all hours. Would not want someone to remark on me doing this or that or watching me eat, etc.

message 1276: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Too True...like those reading days where I was still in my pjs after noon. I try to console my conscience by thinking that it is still morning in parts of the US. It helps to have a perspective.

message 1277: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I vividly remember a trip with my parents to visit Army friends in rural California when I was 14 years old. We were in a house that was very isolated in the middle of beautiful countryside surrounded by acres of land. Taking a tour of the house, we saw the master bathroom had a huge window that ran along the side next to the bathtub. No blinds, shades, curtains... nuthin. I asked how they could stand the lack of privacy and they just laughed and said anyone that took that long a trip just to look in their bathroom was welcome to look.

message 1278: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Now that is perspective. LOL!!!

message 1279: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments I loved The Lake House. But my eldest daughter just doesn't get time slip at all. It's a standing joke in our house that she can't understand how they could possibly expect to meet in the restaurant when they were two years apart.

message 1280: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments He was already dead by then. He was the accident that happened while she was having a visit with her mother in the park. He died in the hospital, the one she tried so valiantly to save. That got me. Man...I will have to watch it again...and soon.

message 1281: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Yes, the time difference does take a certain "side" of the brain working to get it.

message 1282: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments I absolutely love time travel and time slip novels. I've just finished Sleeper's Castle by Barbara Erskine.

message 1283: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I just finished reading an unpublished short story, London Outskirts, by Kent. There were no links to comment sections so I can't ask if he wants this reviewed. I enjoyed it but the interaction between ODC reminded me more of that in a modern day couple's possible relationship...a little bolder and coyly flirtatious.

message 1284: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Crysty.janeite@gmail.com,Sheila,I think is where you could send a query regarding the story you've read and whether the author wishes for it to be reviewed. Hope this is of help.

message 1285: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I thought the new policy regsrding unpublished works only applied to the works on fanfiction.com, not the dwiggie site. I think it's a good idea to ask permission as a courtesy, but it probably isn't required.

message 1286: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am just proceeding with caution, especially as this is a new author for me. Thank you for the link.

message 1287: by Nicole (last edited Jul 12, 2016 09:28AM) (new)

Nicole Barton Sasser (bartonsasser) | 134 comments NEW POLICY IS ONLY FOR AHA/MRR/PL (MERYTON WEBSITE - MERYTON LITERARY SOCIETY) AND IT STILL DOES NOT CALL FOR YOU TO HAVE TO CONTACT EACH TIME.

sorry for the all caps :)

"I need to sum up new guidelines for y'all from private discourse with AHA - no need to contact author for each story each time you want to review.

"...anything prior to July 1st is really the author's responsibility to have the entire listing taken down should they not want the reviews. After July 1st, anyone who does not want their story reviewed at Goodreads is supposed to post a request at the beginning of the story. As long as readers/reviewers pay attention to who would prefer not to be on Goodreads, then they're fine."

"If the author does not clearly state preference at the beginning of the story, there is certainly nothing to moderate, and offsite reviews thus would not break any rule."

THE ONUS IS ON THE AUTHOR TO SPELL OUT RESERVATIONS ABOUT OFF-SITE REVIEWS.

I will not add fanfiction for anyone that does not follow the new guidelines."

message 1288: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Sorry, Nicole - I did know that, but I misspoke (mistyped?) Thanks for the clarification, since I obviously was giving misinformation. Apologies to all.

message 1289: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am going to copy and paste this into my documents so I can reread it as new authors come into my sight.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments WOW!!! Sheila, you are on fire. Congratulations and way to go. I am trailing way behind but that is OK. As you said it is not a race. But, goodness, you are a force to be reckoned with. Yeah!!!

message 1292: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Then don't look at Debbie's list as she intimidates even me. But thanks for the compliment.

Thank you, Nicole, but I posted a request in a comment on the second one to the author re: a review and haven't heard back. The first one I will review as there was not way to contact him.

Neither on Meryton.com (AHA/MMR/PL) site, not against policy.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments OK, I am working on the one review now. Thank you for your reassurances. I get nervous about offending an author.
