Ok, seriously folks, I LOVE laundry day! I get so much guilt-free reading done while clothes are in the washer and dryer. At the end of the day, our clothes are all clean, dry, folded and put away and I've read pages and pages. Win-win!!
and with that, I have a load to put in the washer right this minute. Plus, I am having to charge the battery on my NOOK so I can finish my current read. That allows me to be on the computer while all this is going on. Ceri, you can blame Sheila that I am on this site. Yeah, you can blame her. LOL!!!
Dear me,and I naturally assumed that Mr Bennet's library was one of deep sophistication, respectability and decorum.......how wrong was I!!!! You guys are simply hilarious!!!!
What, pray tell, are you guys like,on a bad day?!?!Actuslly scratch that,I'm not sure I could cope with the answer!
I haven't been here long enough to tell about the others. I just hope I don't pull down the standards. Then again, I love to laugh...couldn't resist.
Unfortunately for anyone looking for sophistication, respectability and decorum in Mr. Bennet's library, Sheila and I were the first to get in. We quickly changed the atmosphere to suit ourselves.
Barb wrote: "I think you all might find this funny. I am in the process of adding several advanced reader copies to my to read list on GR. The last one I was adding was called Book of Joy. I did a search for Bo..."Oh, Barb - I missed this when you first posted it. What an interesting coincidence!! And so perfect!
Jeanne,I can clearly see you are totally innocent in this.....you're just spending too much time in Mr B's library and,I might add (tongue in cheek!), too much time in the questionable company of certain people, who shall remain nameless!!!!!
Hey, it's not as though I'm walking around Mr. Bennet's library naked! (well, not usually, anyway) In the privacy of my own home, I can sit in my jammies and read all day with no shame whatsoever.
'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...'I couldn't even cast a piece of grit, not to mind a stone!!!!
Book of Joy indeed!!!!!
No...that was he who lives in a glass house should put on clothes...wait, maybe that was don't throw stones. Whatever, I need that picture out of my head.
The Lake House comes to mind - all glass there and while watching the movie I kept thinking how little privacy was there. Why would anyone want a house like that?
You know, I loved that movie and it did not get good reviews. And I thought the same thing about the lack of privacy. I'd be OK during the day when I could see out. That night shot of him eating his supper showed the reflections of the inside of the house on the windows. I could not handle the not being able to see out. I couldn't do it. I'd have drapes or curtains of some sort installed to pull at night. Once the lights are off, then you can see outside. But, I couldn't do it.
I wouldn't want it to start with...I wouldn't like the idea of anyone seeing in at all hours. Would not want someone to remark on me doing this or that or watching me eat, etc.
Too True...like those reading days where I was still in my pjs after noon. I try to console my conscience by thinking that it is still morning in parts of the US. It helps to have a perspective.
I vividly remember a trip with my parents to visit Army friends in rural California when I was 14 years old. We were in a house that was very isolated in the middle of beautiful countryside surrounded by acres of land. Taking a tour of the house, we saw the master bathroom had a huge window that ran along the side next to the bathtub. No blinds, shades, curtains... nuthin. I asked how they could stand the lack of privacy and they just laughed and said anyone that took that long a trip just to look in their bathroom was welcome to look.
I loved The Lake House. But my eldest daughter just doesn't get time slip at all. It's a standing joke in our house that she can't understand how they could possibly expect to meet in the restaurant when they were two years apart.
He was already dead by then. He was the accident that happened while she was having a visit with her mother in the park. He died in the hospital, the one she tried so valiantly to save. That got me. Man...I will have to watch it again...and soon.
I absolutely love time travel and time slip novels. I've just finished Sleeper's Castle by Barbara Erskine.
I just finished reading an unpublished short story, London Outskirts, by Kent. There were no links to comment sections so I can't ask if he wants this reviewed. I enjoyed it but the interaction between ODC reminded me more of that in a modern day couple's possible relationship...a little bolder and coyly flirtatious.http://dwiggie.com/derby/old_2008/ken...
Crysty.janeite@gmail.com,Sheila,I think is where you could send a query regarding the story you've read and whether the author wishes for it to be reviewed. Hope this is of help.
I thought the new policy regsrding unpublished works only applied to the works on fanfiction.com, not the dwiggie site. I think it's a good idea to ask permission as a courtesy, but it probably isn't required.
I am just proceeding with caution, especially as this is a new author for me. Thank you for the link.
NEW POLICY IS ONLY FOR AHA/MRR/PL (MERYTON WEBSITE - MERYTON LITERARY SOCIETY) AND IT STILL DOES NOT CALL FOR YOU TO HAVE TO CONTACT EACH TIME.sorry for the all caps :)
"I need to sum up new guidelines for y'all from private discourse with AHA - no need to contact author for each story each time you want to review.
"...anything prior to July 1st is really the author's responsibility to have the entire listing taken down should they not want the reviews. After July 1st, anyone who does not want their story reviewed at Goodreads is supposed to post a request at the beginning of the story. As long as readers/reviewers pay attention to who would prefer not to be on Goodreads, then they're fine."
"If the author does not clearly state preference at the beginning of the story, there is certainly nothing to moderate, and offsite reviews thus would not break any rule."
THE ONUS IS ON THE AUTHOR TO SPELL OUT RESERVATIONS ABOUT OFF-SITE REVIEWS.
I will not add fanfiction for anyone that does not follow the new guidelines."
Sorry, Nicole - I did know that, but I misspoke (mistyped?) Thanks for the clarification, since I obviously was giving misinformation. Apologies to all.
I am going to copy and paste this into my documents so I can reread it as new authors come into my sight.

Thank you, Nicole, but I posted a request in a comment on the second one to the author re: a review and haven't heard back. The first one I will review as there was not way to contact him.
