J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments OK, since your husband was with you...I guess you are no longer confined to quarters/grounded/or have to sit in the corner.

I didn't realize I was missing such fun. You guys are awesome.

Mary | 452 comments When the mood strikes,we do have our moments!!!! You gotta laugh!!!!

message 1353: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Never heard of white lightning but we have what I believe would be similar here and it's called poteen. It's made mainly from potatoes (I'm told) and boy has it some kick!!! Wasn't online yesterday, was unwell (not from poteen:), and I can't believe how much I missed!! Ye make me laugh. Maybe it would have done me good to be here.

message 1354: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Teresa, in that case...we missed you. Hope you are feeling better.

You caught our comments on a good/bad day [which ever the case]. Maybe it was the moon [not shine] cycle. I know, the puns are too too bad. Anyway, had Mr. Darcy been in our company, he would have fled the country aghast at our disgraceful display and avow to never be in our company again, Plus, he would warn off any of his friends to avoid us. Glad you are feeling better.

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments My newest reads:

Win, Lose, or Darcy: A Pride & Prejudice Variation: I bought this because of the title. Very fun. I liked the way the story progressed though I wondered why the author created a couple of new characters. It was enjoyable to me.

Chaos Comes to Longbourn: A Pride and Prejudice Variation: Short and sweet. Another quick and pretty angst free read. These first two were like cotton candy.

Sketching Character: Lydia! One of my favorite Lydia storylines ever. I would love a sequel to this one. Loved it.

Sketching Mr. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice alternative journey: I love Lory Lillian but each time I read this book the story does not stick in my head. I have trouble recalling it. E & D just don't grab me the way they usually do in this one.

Thanks for the kind word J W. I'm sitting here laughing at your comments on Mr. Darcy. I think you've certainly hit the nail on the head there:)

message 1357: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Talia...great list. I see several that I want to read.

Teresa...I am afraid that poor Mr. Darcy would not approve of Mr. Bennet's library.

message 1358: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I can see him onlooking as he and Caroline did at the Netherfield Ball.

message 1359: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments With that supercilious look on his face! We would be 'decidedly beneath his own family'!!

message 1360: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Yes, but he would secretly be wishing he could unbend and join in the fun. After all, he WAS attracted to Elizabeth and her lively personality. Although, I admit, perhaps our silliness could be considered more akin to Lydia and Kitty, but I'd like to think not. We're not thoughtless or heedless of others, after all.

message 1361: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments And Teresa, I agree with you about Sketching Mr. Darcy. Not Lory Lillian's best. I know I gave Sketching Character 5 stars, but it was before I started writing reviews and I don't remember the Lydia storyline. Now you have me curious!

message 1362: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Teresa,so glad you're feeling better today.

I think Mr D would be deeply affronted at our shennagins last night,he'd probably never darken the door of Longbourn again, not to mind enter the library.
Although I tend to agree with Debbie,he'd probably be secretly wishing he'd partaken of that special brew s c was able to have his share in the conversation.....not that says conversation was easy to understand or hear, for that matter!!

Funnily enough I loved Lory's SMD,I know I gave it 5*.

message 1363: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Debbie it was Talia who mentioned Sketching Mr Darcy. I haven't read it yet.

message 1364: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Oops! Apologies!

message 1365: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Yikes! Teresa, I do have the tendency to look at the name BELOW the comment, since that seems more logical to me... similar to writing a note with the signature at the bottom. I know better with GR comments, of course, but sometimes I forget to double-check. My apologies to you and Talia.

message 1366: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Remember... Mr. Bennet's Library is by invitation only. No one was admitted to Mr. B's sanctuary without knocking first. Although, Mrs. B was occasioned to have barged in when excited. However, she didn't do it very often. And... you have to qualify to be admitted. You can comment, but to be considered 'IN' Mr. Darcy would have to abide by the rules. We are exclusive even to him. Bless his heart.

message 1367: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments And Mr. Bennet does have that lovely sense of humor, so I don't believe he'd object to our occasional break-out of silliness as long as we can give him quiet to read at appropriate times and serious discussion about literature at appropriate times. I do like the way you think, Jeanne!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Back at you Debbie...

message 1369: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Ladies-the state ye were in last night would have rendered ye both physically and mentally unable to deny Mr D entry should he have desired such....knowing ye,ye would probably have dragged the poor guy in,pushed him into a comfy chair, encouraged him to heartily partake of the same special blend of tea that ye were drinking and put him under severe pressure to exhibit his talents on the grand pianoforte that ye had installed on the QT!!!!!

message 1370: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Mary, ye wouldn't be referring to his talents on TOP of the grand pianoforte, would ye? Because I'm happily married and would never be a party to that kind of dissolute behavior (unless it was my husband, of course), no matter how much poteen, moonshine or white lightning I might have imbibed!

message 1371: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Ladies, please maintain some decorum here! The servants might overhear your ranting and then where would we be?

message 1372: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Debbie- his talent on top of the pianoforte???
So you heard of his tap dancing prowess on floors or indeed any flat surface(!) too???!!!!
Thank goodness I'm not the only one privy to this hidden talent of his.......!!!!!

message 1373: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Sheila-thank heavens for your input!! Finally the voice of reason!!! Was wondering where you were!!!

message 1374: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Laughing...I have been watching from a distance and just decided someone had to step in. The reputations of all are on the line and exposed.

message 1375: by Debbie (last edited Jul 17, 2016 01:16PM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments No comment. Sheila is exhorting us to behave. Talia tried to turn our conversation back to books several hours ago and I tried to follow, apparently to no avail. I admit that I let myself get dragged back into dottiness, and I apologize to all who might be offended by our daffy comments. It IS fun to behave like giggly teenagers sometimes, though, isn't it?

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments The inner child must have their entertainment.

message 1377: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments My initial response to Denbie's post was one of shock, until I realised what she meant-that she too knew that he was fleet of foot!!!!!!!

message 1378: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments In all seriousness- surely nobody will take offence at this innocent bit of fun???

message 1379: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments In all seriousness, I sincerely doubt it.

Now hush, already! I'm trying to read!!!!

message 1380: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Forgive me for interrupting your book time.....but somethings are more important than reading......and that's having,as we Irish say,a bit of 'craic' with friends!!!!

message 1381: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Well said Mary!

message 1382: by Mary (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Lenora...a kindred spirit. Welcome to our madness. Look at the trouble they got themselves in while I was off line reading. JWG

message 1386: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Jeanne-don't even attempt to pretend that you weren't in the thick of it with the rest of us !!!
You may have been reading but you knew that it was a risky venture to leave us alone like that......!!!!!!

message 1387: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments How warm is it in the library? I see some fanning themselves. Is it what they are reading or is it what is going on? Dancing on the tables? My, my.

message 1388: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Sheila-dancing on the tables?? In the library??? Again today???? Heavens above are the shades of Longbourn to be thus polluted???

message 1389: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am commenting on the consequences of yesterday's activities...some ladies seem overheated...why is that?

message 1390: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Overheated??? I'm totally ignorant and innocent,as I'm sure you're aware that I'm not allowed access into the library yet! Although I did hear of scandalous behaviour last night....and a man of great prestige was said to be partaking of ungentlemanly behaviour......not that I believe a word of what the gossips have whispered..........

message 1391: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Oh, good grief! *groan*

$7.49 for a book of 406 pages is a little steep IMO!

I was going to get the hardcover. I haven't read anything by this author before so I was hoping someone here had.
