Sivan P.L. | 2 comments Hi everyone! Nice to meet you (:

My name is Sivan and I'm an author / reader.
I joined Goodreads a few months ago and I really like the atmosphere! (Both from the reader's & writer's end).
I'm a member in the "Sci-Fi and fantasy" and "existential book club" groups over here.

I have just started writing my new book (will be happy to give you a taste soon).

Also writing a bit in my Goodreads personal blog… not that often but you're all invited (:

My first book is: "THE CONDUCTOR - Birth Rate: 0"
It is complete and available on amazon.
It is a dystopian FANTASY which involves a psychological- existential point of view. It deals with the question of faith, and meaning of life (with or without faith).
The main character is a bit of an allegory for human suffering and throughout the story she seeks meaning.

"In this psychological fantasy, a spiritual journey is imposed upon - Rien the most demotivated character of all three realms in a pre-apocalyptic world. When she is given a most unique opportunity, she struggles to abandon her sense of nullity. Will she be able to plant in a seed of hope?"

Looking forward to meet you all and chat around…

Hello all, lovely to meet you,

I have just published a historical novel on Amazon called Kraken the Ruthless . It is a most unusual pirate adventure set in the 18th Century.

Anyway, I really enjoyed writing the tale (with assistance) and I hope anyone choosing to take a look will quickly be drawn into the exciting twists and turns of Kraken’s dangerous world.

I know it is a lot to ask for someone to review a whole book, so what I’ve done is put the first three chapters here in the Goodreads creative writing section. Then, if you like the look of it and want to see more, I’ll arrange for you to have a free copy of the whole book.

Finally, I am more than willing to help others in the same way by reviewing their carefully crafted words.

Love,

Hypatia

(As instructed, I’ve started a thread in the Author's folder where I’ve put the book synopsis and further details)

Lisa Reinicke (lisareinicke) | 17 comments Hi! I am a children’s picture book author from Highlands Ranch, CO and all of my ideas for my books come from my life, my children, and my grandchildren because I believe that real life is much more entertaining than anything I could make up. I have written, produced, and retold over 20 short stories for local TV programs and enjoy writing and reading with children, watching their faces light up, hearing their laughter, and listening to their worries as they become involved with the character’s in my books.

I am looking for some reviews for my 4 published children's book, and my upcoming Historical Memoir about my Dad in WWII. I would also love to review for you as well, I am open to any genre except for Romance and Fantasy- those aren't my forte.

M.J. Miller | 4 comments Hello!

Thanks for including me in the group. I'm new to publishing and grudgingly learning about the complicated world of marketing. (Tell me, who has time to write?!)

I've written a one-of-a-kind humorously illustrated book, Life Lessons from the Hive, comparing life in the hive and life as a Christ-follower. While encouraging the reader to examine their own walk with God, it takes readers inside the fascinating world of the endangered honey bee without the threat of getting stung.

Now I'm looking for honest reviews -- I think. :-)

message 878: by John (new)

John Winn | 4 comments Hi All!

You can call me Jack. I can't think of an interesting way to introduce myself at the moment, so I'll just shoot from the hip. I've been freelance writing for years and writing fiction on the side, but this is the first time I've been part of a reviewer's group--at least one as big as this. My interests tend to be pretty broad and tend to range the gamut from current events, to art, to novels, and very rarely, poetry. If we were introducing ourselves at a party, I'd describe my interests as "eclectic". I am grateful to have an opportunity to be part of such a creative and dynamic group, and hopefully interact with some fellow authors and reviewers as well.

Right now I've got something of a history bug, so I am thinking about history and historical fiction specifically. This is a completely new arena for me, so I am a little intimidated, but I'm excited all the same. I am also thinking about subjects related to art and music as well, but that really hasn't been defined creatively for me yet. I honestly don't know what direction I'll be pulled, but at least that half the fun.

As far as my involvement in this group goes, I'm leaning towards beta reading and ARCs, but I want to take it slow. Eventually I want to get around to writing and publishing works of my own in due time, but it's all about baby steps for me right now. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't relishing the opportunity of talking to and working with all you interesting people, so my options are wide open. Other than that, I'm excited to be here. How about the rest of you?

Garrison Kelly (cybador) Good evening, everybody. My penname is Garrison Kelly and I write a little bit of everything whether it’s sci-fi, fantasy, contemporary drama, or poetry. I began writing in 2002, but didn’t become a bookworm until 2009 when I read a spy novel called “The Cleaner” by Brett Battles. I graduated from Western Washington University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in creative writing and a minor in theater arts. I am mentally disabled with autism and schizophrenia. I can’t think of anything else at the moment, so I’ll just leave it at this. It’s nice to meet everyone here!

message 883: by John (new)

John Winn | 4 comments Heather,

Marketing on a budget sounds like a great idea for a group read! I picked up a book a year or so titled "Make Art, Make Money" which is essentially an inspirational/how-to book using Jim Henson's life and career as one long anecdote. It's a little gimmicky at times and the author leans a little heavily on the self-promotion front but a worthwhile read for any aspiring creative. I've resolved to take a little more control of my life creatively since reading it but if anyone is seriously thinking about making writing or art a career I'd suggest reading it.

Lisa Reinicke (lisareinicke) | 17 comments Hello everyone! I'm Lisa Reinicke and I write children's books. I just came out with my fourth book Bart's Escape Out the Gate. It's a sweet story about a child's pet dinosaur getting out and causing a big mess.

This year I am going to release my very first novel. It's called Football Flyboy and it's about the letters my father wrote to his family during WWII. It has a lot of funny family stories but also shows the self-control my father had while he was away from home. He stayed true to my mother by writing every day to her.

I am so excited to meet everyone. I look forward to talking more with all of you!

Ann Schaffer (acschaffer) Hello, fellow readers! I'm from the state of Iowa in the US. I work full time and always have a house full of teenagers, but I read anywhere I can, including in line at the grocery store, in between innings at softball games, and in any waiting room. I love historical fiction most of all, but am also into inspirational non-fiction stories, books about different cultures, and classic literature. I try to write a review for every book I read and have been active on Goodreads for a few years. Besides reading, my other favorite hobby is working with and hosting foreign exchange students.

Here's my favorite quote from the last book I read, "Glass Houses" by Louise Penny.

"If ever two men were made for cahoots, it was these two. They were cahootites."

I've three books out there, 'The Cave', 'A Tale of Shadows' (recently revised) and 'The Walled Garden,' two novels recently edited and ready to publish and one underway. Good reviews aren't converting into new readers.

1) "Beautyworld," a science fiction work which recreates the 9/11 disaster and controversy in the 140th century: B004NNVK54

2) "Angelika," in which an 18-year-old German exchange student falls in love with her infatuated, but very proper 40-year-old teacher; what could possibly go wrong? B01M0PFKX5

3) "Eustacia's Secret," 2nd edition, in which two teenage boys fall in love. One is a well-camouflaged transgender girl and the other is a homophobe. Again, what could possibly go wrong? B01N1YYJJN

Review swaps? Tx!

Cheryl Breo | 3 comments Hi!
My name is Cheryl Breo and I've just become a published author with my first book titled "Happiness Is A Warm Gun-A Vietnam Story. My story is about being young and in love during one of the most turbulent times during America's history...about my relationship that was lived through love letters, phone calls, violence and determination to survive. We were two Baby Boomers, one who fought for his country; and me, who peacefully protested the war, making people aware of a new voice, reciting peace by non-violence. We were a couple whose love survived; against all odds, but in the end; whose lives were almost destroyed by the memories carried back from Nam.
Even though our marriage ended, our love and friendship never did; we remained friends until he passed away in August of last year.
I'm also an avid Beatle's fan since 1964; when I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show. My cats are even named after Beatle songs.
