ROUND II: Team Achilles
Currently reading Four Souls by Louise Erdrich which will work for author name E. I should have it finished tonight.
And I could read Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende for author born in South America tomorrow, if no one else has anything for that goal. She was born in Peru.
Kate S wrote: "And I could read Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende for author born in South America tomorrow, if no one else has anything for that goal. She was born in Peru."That would be great :)
I fit in Fifty Shades Freed for the E author. @Reva: I wanted to double check with the mods to see if the character had to be a formal investigator or not. Karen said: "For the investigator one, that should be the character's prime purpose in the book." Do you think The Seer still works for that?
Here's the update:
Team Gannicus
- Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with I [Deedee]
- Read a book that has a number in the title with a series number one higher than that number [Sonia]
- Read a book written by an author who was born in South America [Kate]
Team Crixus
- Read a book with a road on the cover
- Read a book where a character is an investigator [Sara]
- Read a book with a monkey

Do you think The Seer still works for that? The main male character works for military intelligence and has gone undercover to investigate corruption and bribery. It certainly fits.
The female character is a telepath.
Sounds good. Here's the update:Team Gannicus

I forgot to warn here, my niece's third birthday is tomorrow, so me and Eni are a little busy today and tomorrow. Hence, me not here today and not finished my book yet. But hey, cake is baked and frosted, picnic food all ready to go. Only thing left for tomorrow is the sandwiches and the butterfly snack bags :)
I'll start this one next:#5.
A Bad Egg by Jessica Beck 181 pages Read: 17/ 8 /2015 (May 7, 2013) Char: Moose & Victoria, Mystery,
Now when we have doubled the power, the goals don't have the chance. ;)I finished "Star of morning' (full info in team thread) and I am starting
for 'road on cover' goal.

Starting Portrait in Sepia"
I have always wanted to read an Isabel Allende novel. I loved 'The House of Spirits' movie... Did you read any before or is this your first Kate?
Dragana wrote: "I have always wanted to read an Isabel Allende novel. I loved 'The House of Spirits' movie... Did you read any before or is this your first Kate?"This will be my fourth by her. I really liked Of Love and Shadows. Her books are not easy reads and so much of what happens is unfamiliar territory for me, but I find myself thinking about them months later.
I thought Ripper was OK, but not where her strength lies.
The House of the Spirits was the first I read by her and I think I may not have read it at the right time in my life. I enjoyed the characters, but had not yet learned to appreciate the lyricism and the flow of her style.
I am looking forward to this next one.

I like Latin American style of writing. Like: Gabriel García Márquez, Laura Esquivel, Paulo Coelho, ...
I still think I will start with 'The House of Spirits' (especially since I own it already lol), but if I like it I'll try 'Of Love and Shadows' next. I haven't even heard about it before, so thanks for the recommendation. :)

Great job Reva. You really are a reading machine. ;)Oh and 'Bad Egg' is #5 in series... I can't wait to see which goal we will have next. :)
I added the goal to the spreadsheet (but didn't add the book to the Gannicus sheet since I only had a few seconds). If someone else can copy and paste the goal lost with the new goal that would be great! :)

Updated both the spreadsheets. Knocked two goals out from Crixus. Updated the post at the top.Have a question for the mods about the latest goal.
Read a book with the phrase "weak at the knees" in a book.
I found 'knees went weak' in Stardancer. Confirming it with the Mods, if it would work.
So, here is the latest set of goals. They just keep getting weird. Now we have to look for a dinosaur. Good God ! :PMessage at the top of the thread, updated.

Currently reading The Pursuit of Perfect: How to Stop Chasing and Start Living a Richer, Happier Life in audio for the P goal (Crixus).
Oh bugger, I just read The Valley with dinosaurs galore, but it was during round 1... But it's only 165 pages so a quick read, if somebody wants to have a go at it.
i checked my kindle and I have A Memory of Time which would fit. It's only 162 pages and still free on Amazon, if anybody else wants to quickly read it (I need to finish two thick books, need to return them to the library).
Reva wrote: "Read The Dinosaur Four last November. Gave it 4 stars"Nice to know Reva, I have it on my TBR list but haven't gotten around to buying it yet.
So I ended up reading different book, but it still has a road on the cover so that goal is finished. :)I'm not sure what I will read next. There is The Dinosaur Lords (which I planned to read someday) but I did not buy it yet and I'm trying to clean up the books I already own.
I think I will wait to see what the next goal is before I decide...
Good Morning!!!So after a loooooong weekend, I'm back.
All books validated. And I'll try to finish my book today - I'm back to the main office, not sure if I can sneak a book in or not. Probably not.
Finished:#1 or #3 (Depending on which series)
Sheepfarmer's Daughter By Elizabeth Moon 506 pages Read: 18 / 8 /2015 (1988) Char: Paksenarion, Fantasy
Quick pre-work goal update. :)Team Gannicus
- Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with I [Deedee]
- Read a book that has a number in the title with a series number one higher than that number [Sonia]
- Read a book written by an author who was born in South America [Kate]
Team Crixus
- Read a book that starts with the letter P [Sara]
- Read a book with a dinosaur
- Read a book with a penguin
Well...
has a visit to the zoo and they watch the penguins and also buy a penguin keychainbook also has pet hamster and pet rabbit
Warnings: book is MM romance, deals with autistic kids (high functioning level) and for those easy sobbing ones like me, needs a lot of kleenexes.
Since, we are all running behind the goals (which is how it should be) and apparently stuck in between all kinds of animals.... lets take a quick breather.
In the 2+ weeks of this challenge, can you name the Top 3 Books (if not the best) that you happened to read?
Dragana wrote: "With a penguin? Really? And I though dinosaurs were hard/rare to find... o.O"So now you are stuck between a dinosaur and a penguin :-)
Apoorv wrote: "In the 2+ weeks of this challenge, can you name the Top 3 Books (if not the best) that you happened to read?"Well, I've read three books that I've rated four stars (no five star ones): The Girl with All the Gifts, Groosham Grange and Pakko-oireet ja OCD. The last one was work-related so not really for fun, but informative (about obsessive-compulsive behavior) and well written. Of these I guess I liked The Girl with All the Gifts best (like zombie books and this had an interesting angle).
Found Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov which features a pet penguin.Anyone into Mistery/Crime? :)
Apoorv wrote: "In the 2+ weeks of this challenge, can you name the Top 3 Books (if not the best) that you happened to read?"No five stars here either, but I've read four books that I've rated four stars. I especially enjoyed Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Easter Parade by Richard Yates and The Mangle Street Murders by M.R.C. Kasasian which honestly exceeded my expectations :)
