Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments Yeah, heard a lot of good things about LOTR(the book) and the movie Return of The King is kickass. Will definitely read it.

Im now currently reading Frank Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars. Its an action-pack spinoff to Carol Lewis' Alice in Wonderland. Reading it in preparation for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland 3D coming out this March.

That why Im going to read it. Yeah, i am not a certified fantasy genre lover but still im a fantasy genre lover because most of the books I read and about to read are under that genre. I tend to prioritize reading fantasy books that has not yet adapted into film.

Oh man. Bella just sounds to wrong right now, after that whiny character. And our Isabella here is way cooler than that. Right Isabella?

The book was WAAAYY better than the film. Seriously.

message 120: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Well, judging from Faye Ann's the movie is stinker. I guess I better save my money and but the book instead of hitting the cinemas.

Thanks, Faye you saved one book-lover's soul there.. ^_^

message 121: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments I almost walked out of the cinemas if I was watching it alone and I dont have companies that haven't read the book yet. That's how awful the movie ADAPTATION was. Im not even sure if I can call it an adaptation. Just to warn those people who intends to watch it, I will not hold back any information from the movie.

Im not talking about the visual effects, cinematography, editing cause if I will base my judgement on those elements, I would say it's okay. Its all about the screenplay. It changed a LOT(almost everything) about the story. No Mr. D, No Clariss, No U-Shape Cabins, No Ares-Aphrodite Affair, No Oracle, No Quest. It didn't even show my favorite part of book one when Poseidon claimed Percy as his son. It didn't even get Riordan's purpose to modernize the gods. What the hell is the quest for 3 pearls all about?! That was very childish. I didn't even get why they ommit the U-Shape Cabins, did they lack the imagination to build the cabins just how RR describe it or simply they just ran out of budget. And why is camp-half blood populated by people in their late 20's?!? And most of all, what the fuck is the Gaga's Pokerface dance number all about.?!

There is no reference about the sequel because they didn't mention that Kronos was the mastermind of the stealing of the bolt and Percy killed Luke at the end, and even Thalia's tree was not mentioned. In short, the didn't acknowledge the Great Prophecy which is the whole point of the series. The only redeeming point of the movie is Grover's funny antics.

I am really sad about Logan Lerman's career. I thought he could be the next big thing after Daniel Rad and finally outshine the douchebag Pattinson guy(cause Logan is way good looking than him). I don't understand why Riordan approved of that screenplay. I mean, if an author sells his rights for his book to be made into movie, does he have no control of the story. Honestly, I hated(a little) him after watching the movie because I thought he let his story be ruined because of the big money the producers paid him. Still he's one of my favorite authors. I just wished there is no more sequel.

Ok, Im sorry if this was full of negativities and hatred. I just need to release the frustration and disappointment. That's all. I need to breathe. Piece of advice, if you are really curious about the movie, just watch it on pirated dvd especially if already read the book.

Yes, they called it Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. That was the title shown in the beginning of the movie.

message 123: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments I researched the opinion of Rick Riordan about the movie and I saw this on his FAQ's instead

"1. I have a question or comment about the Percy Jackson movie.

Answer: Sorry, that’s not my department! I can only tell you that the movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, released Feb. 12, 2010 and directed by Chris Columbus, was based on my book The Lightning Thief. Understand that I did not write the script or help make the movie. I just write the books. I can’t comment or provide any additional information about the movie version.

2. Did you have any control over the movie?

Answer: No. When an author sells the rights to a book, typically full creative control goes to the movie studio and director — in this case, Fox 2000 and Chris Columbus. The movie rights to Lightning Thief were sold over five years ago, before the book was even published. I made the decision to sell the rights so early because it brought lots of public attention to the books and helped the series catch on. However, once the movie rights are sold, the author has no control over what happens in the movie. I did read a version of the script and got to make some suggestions, but that was the extent of my involvement. I can’t tell you anything further about the movie. Nor can I give you contact information for anyone who was involved in the movie. Sorry!"

Well, that explains everything. These producers are just wickedly evil.

Hi Michael Ryle, I think it is better to see the movie first before reading the book. You will come to the moviehouse without any expectations so you have an open mind. It is entertaining and I think it is better than Harry Potter 1.

DI BA! DI BA! NAKAKAINIS! Poor Mr. Riordan. He should have insisted that he should have his hands on the movie, just like Stephenie Meyer is on her Twilight Saga. That i think is the secret why the Twilight Saga movie was embraced by the public, specially by the readers whohave readthe books beforehand.

sayang naman yung story. im really not sure if i'll still watch the second movie, if there'll be one. maybe i'll just download an illegal copy na lang, just to get back at those brainless producers and writers who made the Percy movie thing.

Digital Fortress is the WORST among Dan Brown books. Take it from me as I am an IT guy. My favorite is ANGELS AND DEMONS, followed by DECEPTION POINT, followed by THE DA VINCI. Don't read DIGITAL FORTRESS. It sucks.

no worries! :) my point lang naman is that the book authors should have a say on the movie adaptions, because i think that's a reason why the Twilight movies are sucessful in the box office just as the books are.

We're kindred souls Kuya Doni. Of all of Dan Brown's thrillers I found Angels & Demons the superb of the lot. Just pure suspense and reading entertainment. Others are all just well... formulaic. Intriguing at first, but formulaic. But I give him credit for creativity, though.
