Ace (lj560) | 1169 comments I am done reading "The knife of never letting go", all I can say is I didn't expect the ending of that book to be like that... Nakakainis. I hate Aaron(not here in GR)hehehe! and The Mayor and his son!(Gusto ko silang isumpa!). Pero ayoko muna basahin yung sequel, gusto ko muna nang "breaker". So I am currently reading Raven's Gate by Anthony Horowitz

message 406: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments I love love love Gatekeepers series. Anthony Horowitz is a master on keeping the plot sharp and truthful. I am delaying on reading Necropolis (the fourth book) cause the last book won't come out any time soon. But I want to read it so soon cause a friend here told me that the girl, the last of the Five, that will be introduced on the Necropolis is pretty hot.

message 409: by Lany (new)

Lany (adifferentlany) | 5 comments Hi there! Am currently reading Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the shore and am trying my super best to digest everything. Am still on the verge of deciding which Murakami book to read next if it's going to be Norwegian Wood or Wind-up bird chronicle. Anyone who's also a fan of Haruki?

And hopefully next month, i shall lay my hands on "lord of the flies" *excited* :)

Better read it Lany. Actually I've just recently finished the book. It's great! ^_^

About Haruki Murakami better ask Kuya Doni and Ranee here about that. They're the certified Murakami fans. ^_^

So i've heard from friends and i just added "kuya doni" and "ranee" i wanna see their reviews on murakami :)

message 412: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments hi lany! you may want to read norwegian wood next. there's going to be a movie based on it. if my sources are right, it's going to be released in December.

wow! that's really awesome :) i think am itching to get the book right away! actually, my first choice was truly norwegian wood but the bookstore then was out of stock that's why i decided to grab kafka on the shore which is actually good too. Thanks for the recommendation! Do you have any other suggestions on what to read? I think we kinda have the same taste :P

message 414: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments i started with the short stories of Murakami. you'd be amazed that some of his short stories are actually incorporated inside his novels.
i've read sputnik sweetheart and it is a good summer book.

Ace (lj560) | 1169 comments @ranee: is A Wild Sheep Chase good? I'm planning to read it soon and besides it is the only murakami book i have. hehehe!

message 416: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments i haven't read A wild sheep chase yet. i'm in a "novel" diet hence, my reading is supposedly only limited to academic books and journals, at least for the time being.

people have different take on the review of that novel. it's either i love it so much or it confused me to oblivion. it has a lot of twist, they say. And as the title goes, it's a chase/hunt for an alien sheep.

message 417: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments I just finished reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding and what a splendid book that was! I recommend it to those who want a meaningful classical read.

Now on to The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I'm just into the sixth page that I found myself laughing. A welcome change for something light and funny in comparison to grim one I just finished.

And yes, Scorpio din ako. Yey! Madami akong ka birth month. :)

Just busy these days. With work and with other stuff. Didn't even have the time to read my to-read books. Buti na lang I get to "see" some of you in FB, like Jzhun, Jam, Aaron, and Kuya Doni.

Nalula naman ako sa dami ng posts when I checked my account. It seems you guys are enjoying here in Goodreads. Book lovers indeed make good friends. Hehe...Hopefully i would be able to join you in the next meet-up.

This book is killing me.
There's this Holden guy who does things in a backasswards sort of way. Now that's a word. Telling us about this "madman stuff" reluctantly that our need to hear the story out is much stronger than his need to tell it. Down the end of Chapter 7 he shouts out "Sleep tight, ya morons!" and that had me laughing and all. Laughing really hard and all. Anyway, go and read it yourself to know what the crap I'm saying.
Reading this one's a cinch. I bet I can finish this by the end of the week tops.

I'm past halfway, Jzhun and I don't know if I like it or not. Sometimes, I do. Sometimes, I don't. I think it will be clearer after the last word on the last page. I know you have it. I hope it will not be another Man Booker dud.

I'm really digging it man! I'm near the last coupl'a chapters and it's both tender and hilarious and depressing and all.

Man, we're going to have a splendid book discussion next month. This Holden is really a character study.

@Jzhun: YEY! I'm hopin for that too. I kinda got an idea as to what the "Catcher" is because there's a lot of ref to it while I'm listening (and still not done) to King Dork. I'm havin a blast listenin to it but to all those who are plannin to read King Dork, be sure to read Catcher first.

Simulan mo sa Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses. Ewan ko lang.

message 442: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments I'm finished with The Catcher in the Rye. The ending really got me. It's like an "Aha!" moment for me really. It's like things start "to click in place," like a puzzle finally completed. It's not that depressing and all. Just tragic, that's what I mean. Book review soon to follow.

I just started reading The Outsiders another classic YA fiction about another tough guy.
Hinton's style is just like that of Salinger without the expletives, of course. Maybe this has something to do with Hinton being a woman and all. I dunno really. Actually I do miss those curse words a lot! Lolz! :D

Ponyboy, you know the kid in this book, and Holden seem to share this way of speaking. Laden with colloquials and slangs. Their speech makes them appear that they're all tough guys, cool, smart or anything. Really, it's just easy reading for me. So no adjustment here or whatever, hey.

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I am reading Don DeLillo's Falling Man and I am on page 30. The Falling Man is supposed to be the man who jumped from the burning 2nd tower during the Sept 11 attack. However, I am still waiting for the character to show up. Patience, patience.

Is it good? My friend who normally finishes a book in 3-5 days struggled to finish it and made a record for herself of finishing it in 2 weeks! Boring and the font is not eye-friendly. Paiba-iba ng font and then the story goes forward and backward, etc.

Kuya Doni Syjuco, that I think what won Syjuco the Man Asian Prize. He did a literary experiment wherein he used non-linear type of story-telling... Basta I'll know more of this when I read the book...

I agree the font is not eye-friendly, and I speak from a lay-out artist's point of view... Problema kasi TBP yung binenta dito sa 'tin which Syjuco did para daw mabasa ng lahat ang libro. I saw the font they used in the Hardcover edition, na gusto-gusto ko talaga makuha pero hindi available sa 'tin, and sa tingin ko mas eye-friendly yun...

Anyway, I just love that book's cover design...
It reminds of the Pahiyas Festival in Quezon...
At kitang-kita ang kung gaano kahirap ginawa ito ng artist ahhh...
