Audible App Issues

I'd love to see it added so I don't have to figure out the remaining time in my head every time I look.
Kristie wrote: "Audible.com wrote: "Hi Janice. If you are listening to a speed above 1X, the time is reflecting how long it will take you to finish the book when listening at the higher speed. This was a new chang..."Agreed. That's a nice feature in some of the other android apps I use for books that I miss in the Audble app (Smart Audiobook player and Listen Audiobook player).
Also, using the gyro in the app to sense a lack of movement and put the playback to sleep would be nice to for those of us that listen going to sleep.
Since a recent Android release, if I've got an audible book active, paused, and the audible app still showing in the notification bar, getting a notification or receiving a phone call will start the book playing after the call or notification completes.Initially I figured it was just something random, but it keeps happening and is a consistent behavior. Doesn't happen with other audio apps or audiobook apps.
I've got an LG G4 if that matters. Latest software.
Hey Andy, Audible Social Support here. We're sorry for the issues you've experienced with your application since updating. Our suggestion would be to clear the app's data and cache via the Apps Manager on your device. If that doesn't help, please reinstall the application. If the issue persists, please email us at social-support@audible.com for further assistance.
I can't seem to get Hide Finished Titles to stick on the app. Routinely, I have to keep re-enabling it.
Not an app issue but a site issue that was resolved forme by Audible Support.
I'm posting this here in case anyone else has the same problem.
When trying to download titles from my library to my PC using a browser, the "Download" link would just redirect me to a "How to Listen" page, instead of opening Audible Download Manager. Even opening the manager manually didnt seem to work.
This worked correctly about a month ago, but stopped working recently - maybe with the most recent revamp of the Library user interface.
I contacted Audible support and the following instructions fixed it for me:
If you are being directed to the "How to Listen" page after downloading an audiobook, you need to change your software verification setting. Follow these steps:
1. Go to www.audible.com
2. Hover your mouse over "Hi, Your Name".
3. Click "Account Details".
4. Click "Update Settings" option on the left-hand side.
5. Check the option next to "Check for Audible Download Manager".
Now go back to your library and you will be able to download your audiobook.
Audible, if you're listening, please help!I've noticed that the iOS Audible app no longer plays m4b files that I've loaded onto the phone via iTunes.
The m4b audiobooks can be played using the iBooks app on the phone, and I still see them under the "iTunes" tab of the Audible app. So the files themselves are not corrupt or invalid. But when I try to play them in the Audible app, nothing happens. When I touch the "play" triangle, it doesn't change, and the file doesn't play.
This used to work; it's one reason I convert my non-audible audiobooks to m4b, to play them in the Audible app. But it seems to have broken in a recent update.
I'm using an iPhone 6S, running iOS 10.3.3, with version 3.1.1 (524) of the Audible app.
I’m not an Audible member at the moment as I attack by TBL list. However, I am an Amazon Prime member. On my android phone, at the Audible app, I can access Channels for Prime and download a few audio books. My Prime member friends can’t find the access point with their iPhone. Where is it?

I was having an incredibly frustrating experience downloading books from my account as well. The solution for me was to use the actual Audible app, which handles both download and transfer fairly seamlessly.
Hey Hunchback Jack,This is going to sound hairbrained, but this has happened to me twice now - and the solution has turned out to be setting "Check for Audible Download Manager" to the opposite of its current setting, whatever it happened to be.
First time it happened, I was advised, as you were, by Audible support: check the option for "Check for Audible Download Manager".
Second time it happened, I told Audible support that the option was already checked. They told me to uncheck it, which solved the problem again. "It's true." WTF?
Currently the option is unchecked and the downloads are working fine. I told the rep that if I was ever redirected to the "How to listen" page again, I would first try to fix it by just changing that option to the opposite of whatever it already was. The rep actually agreed.
All trial and error, that's all, but that's what's working. It's unchecked now and I'm back to downloading audiobooks successfully to my PC.

I just looked for this setting option and could not locate. Is it in the device settings or in the Audible app settings? I looked under “Settings/General” on my device as well as Audible settings, but did not see. Is this only a PC option or also on mobile devices? Curious, not frantic.
I was referring to the settings found via the Audible.com website as seen by the Firefox browser running on a PC. I don't know about the phone app - I never had a problem with downloads on the latter so I haven't explored the "hamburger menu" options. Here's the procedure for the website via a PC-hosted browser (specs below), starting with the home page at https://www.audible.com:
1. Log into your account.
2. At the top of the page near the center, there's the "Hi, Kathy!" greeting and account menu.
3. Hover the mouse pointer over "Hi, Kathy!". That will open a small drop-down menu.
4. The "Account Details" option is the first one under your account status. Click on "Account Details".
5. On the "Your Account" page, there's an "Update Settings" option in the upper left column of the page. Click on "Update Settings."
6. On the "Your Account Settings" page, scroll down to the "Software Verification" section at the bottom.
7. The "Check for Audible Download Manager" option is in that section. Check or uncheck the box as needed (the opposite of whatever it was).
That's it. No need to click on "Save" anywhere or do anything else. Click anywhere else at the top of the page to navigate to the usual places at Audible.com.
Browser: Firefox 65.0.1
OS: Windows 7 Home "Premium" (right, "Premium". Sigh)
PC: Dell XPS 8700
Good luck,

Al, thanks for the post - it's funny, this happened to me, too, but on a different computer. So I now have the option enabled on one system, and disabled on the other, and both are working!Very odd indeed.
Happy listening,

How Whitman intuited this concept in his lifetime is the mark of creative genius- Eddington didn't propose stellar nuceleosynthesis until 1920, 25+ years after Whitman's death. How did he make a connection between stars and life? Was it ever a commonly believed idea in or before his time?
I never did try to examine that history (if there is one) of Whitman's "grass" quote. If even I picked up on it, many people with actual brains, esp. Astronomers, must have noticed it.
Think I'll rummage around and see what I can find.

BTW: Are the browser, OS, et al, setups on both of your systems the same? Just curious if any of that has something to do with how that setting is used.
My issues are switching listening devices. Bluetooth headphones work, but when I turn them off and load the app it loads for a full minute, then crashes. When I start iPhone app again, it loads fresh and still has delays. This is all especially bad, I think, if I'm going from Bluetooth headphones to Bluetooth car auxiliary device, or CarPlay when I'm carpooling with someone who has it. I get so annoyed by the delay, because sometimes it plays the book and I can't stop it, or if I'm listening to my solo book I can't change it to the book i'm doing with my coworker until after this process. In the grand scheme, it's minor. It's just frustrating. It "causes confusion and delay," as someone once said :P
I do not like the new Home screen. There is very little on it that I can’t find on other screens, and it serves no purpose but to make it more cumbersome to get to my library. Please remove it, or give me an option to open the app to my library.
The Audible app should be a media player first, and a promotional tool second. 3 out of the 4 navigational icons at the bottom of the screen are now used to advertise new content to purchase - which I cannot do in the app anyway!
Let me get to my content quickly and conveniently. Then I’ll consider what else to purchase.
I've reported my issue as a bug. Hopefully they will resolve it. I can't delete an audiobook from my iPhone. I have 3 finished audiobooks that need to be deleted. I swipe left to get the red icon "Remove from device", tap it. Nothing happens.
Audible app no longer works on my Itouch5. Can't upgrade, apparently, due to age of system. So, I have to go back to the 'old days' of figuring out how to play audiobooks using the music app. If that fails, this will end up being a music only ipod. Sigh.

I will try that and if unsuccessful in fixing the problem will email as suggested.

Like Janice, I have not uninstalled yet, but I just really don't want to if I can help it.
Am I the only one who misses the easy 1 tap to change between jumping a whole chapter to jumping seconds? Now you have to go into settings tap tap tap to change from one to the other.
I use both a lot, so this is really bothersome and I hate this change.
Edit: I'm talking about the iOS app, by the way.
Does anyone know how to tell how far along in the book you are on the app now? I used to be able to click on share my progress and it would tell you a percent, but now I can't figure out how to even get to that page where the book is up. No matter where I click it just starts the audio.
Kristie and Eve:On the iOS app in the upper right by opening the ellipses (.....) then as Eve suggested selecting “Share” and then choosing a method you can see your percentage listened. I chose email, and when it opened, saw my percentage then closed the email, discarding it.
Funny, until Eve mentioned it, I didn’t know you could do this!

I used to be able to do that, but can’t even get to that page now. I can see the book in my library, but if I click it it does not go to the book page anymore. It just starts playing. The only option I have for sharing now is to “share the book,” not my progress.

I wish they would announce these things so I can decide not to upgrade the app. They only mention "minor bug fixes" but they as far as I'm concerned they just put in the bugs!
I did that a few days ago, but now it won't let me open the book page at all. When I tap the book it starts to play when I tap it again it pauses. I can tap from the home page, my library, or the strip at the bottom. They all do the same thing. I don't think it's a setting that I changed. Maybe it's a temporary glitch? I may have to contact them.
Specs wrote: "Kristie, maybe you can try closing the app or even restart your phone, maybe that helps?"Closing the app didn't work, but I'll try restarting my phone. Good idea. Thanks.

Yup, it seems that they got rid of the progress updates. Unfortunately, I do not have all of my audiobooks on Kindle to sync, so it looks like I'll have to go back to doing the math based on how much time I have left and how long the book is.

So I didn't know about this either. After rereading this discussion, I just checked the Android app. There is the sharing symbol, which I had previously ignored, on the top left:
Clicking on that gave me 2 options: Share Progress and Send this Book. Clicked on Share Progress and it gave some choices of how to share.
So I couldn't figure out how to text myself (being something of a Luddite) but I could email myself and get my % progress!
Leslie wrote: "Ann wrote: "Kristie and Eve:On the iOS app in the upper right by opening the ellipses (.....) then as Eve suggested selecting “Share” and then choosing a method you can see your percentage listene..."
Yes, that's how I used to get my progress. It just changed so that I can't go to the book page anymore. So, that option is no longer there. I'm really disappointed that they got rid of this in iOS. I just sent an email to confirm whether it is a glitch or an intentional change. I also asked them to inform me of anyway to check progress if there is one.
I’ve also been frustrated by the latest changes to the audible app.- not being able to switch between skipping by chapter vs skipping in seconds by tapping on the book cover
- not having direct access to the share option from the full page player, to see my progress, but having to tap the ellipses first
- not having access to m4b files in the Books app as a tab in the library
- having the current book be a “play bar” along the bottom rather than just an icon
Weirdly if you sign out of the app, it reverts to all the old behaviours - you just don’t get access to your titles in the cloud, and it doesn’t sync your position or listening info until you log in again.
So all the code is there for the behaviors I prefer; they just all go away when I log into my account in the app.
It’s a little infuriating. I use this app all the time to listen to audiobooks, and these little changes that make commonly used features more cumbersome to use drive me up the wall.
Now that is really weird; so the unwanted behaviour starts when you sign in? I'm glad I'm not the only one missing the fast switch between skipping chapter/skipping in seconds.
No one ever emailed me back from Audible, but I found the fix for not being able to find your progress. I grabbed the strip along the bottom and dragged it up and it became the book page. From there you can share your progress to find out how far along you are. The strip along the bottom is similar to the book page being minimized. If you click on it it plays, but if you drag it up it opens.
On my phone I don't need to drag, I can just tap an it opens like normal. Latest Audible update (three days ago). But I'm still on iOS 12, not 13. Don't know if that makes a difference? And maybe there is a difference between being logged in on Audible.com or Audible UK? I'm on UK.
As Hunchback Jack pointed out, Audible takes away the nice features as soon as you are logged into the app....
In the latest update, m4b books in the Books app are visible again in the audible app. Rather than being in a separate tab, they are bundled together with audible titles on the “Downloaded” tab.
Audible, please help:My husband and I have shared accounts on Amazon. Until recently I could log into his Audible account on my android phone, download an audio book, and then return to my account and listen to the book I downloaded. I can no longer do that. When I’m in my account, and chose the book downloaded from his account, I get this message: “This title is no longer included with your membership,” and it won’t play.
My Audible app is up-to-date.
I don't know if Audible monitors these posts. If you want an actual answer, there's an Audible sub-reddit over on Reddit where I know their customer service does listen in.

Have you contacted customer service?
Thanks Contrarius and John. Audible used to monitor us, so I wondered if they were still around. Also, I was curious if others here have the same problem. There is a strength in numbers. No, I have not contacted Customer Service yet. This might be a bigger issue than a lowly, first level CS person, is prepared to help with.I’m not a registered Reddit user.

I've seen discussions here that a pre ordered book would not show up in the app, and there were other issues as well, this kept me away from pre ordering.
Well, last year I did a pre order because I wanted a goody from the author. The book came to my library last week, but would NOT show up in the app.
When refreshing a lot of recently bought books came into view (yay) but not this book. The app kept telling me I could use the side to buy it....
I had to sign out of the app and sign in again, and finally, there it was.
This will be the first and last pre order I've done. Audible needs to sort it's system out first.
