Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments I use it on a Galaxy S4 running Android 4.4.2. I think there was an update to the app on June 4 that kind of messed it up. It randomly drops the book I'm listening to from my notification bar and the widget sometimes shows no book in progress. Also, if I open the app while listening to a book, it will sometimes quit the book and I have to restart it. Again, it's inconsistent and doesn't happen every time. I'll be reporting it to Audible today. They were amazingly responsive when the Android update to KitKat broke the app.

message 102: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Connon | 4 comments I use it on my Note2 and do not have that issue but with the new update they removed the "quit" button which is irritating as it leaves audible running in the background when you are done using it with no way to shut it down. I have a rooted phone so I can get by that but who needs audible to keep running in the background when not in use?

message 103: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) I got the following e-mail from Audible today:

It looks like you may have an older version of Audible app installed on your device which needs to be updated before 6/30/15 to ensure that you enjoy uninterrupted access to your library.

The e-mail continues with some options and a link to update now, but the link takes me to the app I already have installed and it doesn't have any updates available.

Anyone else get this and figure out what needs to be updated? I had a similar e-mail from Amazon about their new app, which was a totally different install than the one I had before. I don't see any new Audible apps popping up, so I'm not really sure what it wants me to do!

message 104: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3943 comments Same here -- according to Google Play the app I have already is the latest one.

To shut Audible running in the background on my Galaxy 3, I draw down the main page to expose the one that shows running apps (Audible, Smart Audiobook, etc.), and click the X to delete Audible.

Drew | 45 comments OK here's a new one I've been at 77 Hours from "Master" for the last 3 days despite listing for about 10 hours. This happen to anyone else?

message 106: by Tobias (new)

Tobias Queen (tobiasqueen) | 3 comments Not exactly, but mine has been picking back up in weird places over the past few days. Annoying but manageable (as long as I remember where I was) and yes sync is on, so no idea what's gone haywire.

message 107: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (poweki) | 136 comments Sometimes I like to multitask while listening to my book via audible on my iPhone. But quite recently, my book stops playing when I open some other apps (ones that worked previously).

Does anyone know if this is an audible app issue or an issue of the other app?

Cheers.

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments I got an email from Audible regarding my Android app constantly crashing on me. Basically what they told me to do was to delete the app and reinstall it. They said that when I reinstall it my bookmarks and last listened to places should be preserved but I will have to go back and manually remark all of my listened to books as finished. I have a lot of books. I will never remember all of them that are finished. I am assuming my stats will have to start over again since as far as my Android is concerned it is a new app. ARGH!!! And if that's not bad enough they told me to delete my Audible files from my main memory and SD card.

After I reinstall the app from the Google Play Store I will have to redownload any books I still wish to listen to. I have gigabytes of books downloaded. This is going to be a pain in the butt.

message 109: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3943 comments I feel your pain about having to re-tag the finished ones, but I only download each new book as I decide which will be next.

message 110: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments That's what I'm gonna have to do. I keep two or three books going at once so I can change from time to time. It keeps me from getting bored especially with longer books. It's the tagging I am really not looking forward to.

I've noticed problems recently with my iPod's clock and Audible - if the alarm goes off while I'm listening to a book in the Audible App, the book stops playing, and sometimes I have trouble restarting where I left off. I swear that used to work.

message 112: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (poweki) | 136 comments Donna - I have that issue as well... These problems have significantly reduced my satisfaction with the app. I hope it gets sorted. :(

That is really, really a problem. I also have tons of books.

Is the email to the rep that sometimes posts here social-media@audible.com?

I got this e-mail yesterday too. I think it may be some kind of scam. I had an issue with my Android app crashing. Audible told me to delete the app and the audible folder containing my books from my Android and re-download it. Before I did I checked the app to see what version I had wondering if it was the same as the current app on the Google Play Store. It was. I deleted the app and re-downloaded per Audibles instructions. A few days later I got the e-mail telling me I was using an old version of the app and needed to click on the link in the e-mail to download the latest version.

Note that the version I downloaded when I reinstalled the app was the same one that I deleted that had been crashing.

To be honest I am not too sure what is going on. When I clicked the link in e-mail it went to a website that looked like Google Play Store to the Audible app. The message said that the app was compatible with my device (my PC) and the little green button that usually says "install" instead says "installed".

I have Audible Manager on my PC but that would not be available on Google Play Store so I don't think that is what it is looking at.

Like I said, I am not sure if this is legit or not, but it just doesn't smell right.

message 116: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments Interesting point, Jeffrey. I clicked on the link from my Galaxy Tab Nook and it didn't say that it was installed because it's not. (I didn't install it.) On my phone, I did a search in the play store for the Audible app and it just gave a choice to open or uninstall.

Maybe I'll forward the e-mail I got today to Audible support.

message 117: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments Okay, I just got done chatting with Angel at Audible. The e-mail being sent out is legitimate, but it's going to everyone whether or not the app has been updated. I also asked her to pass on the word that the last update has made the app buggy and said that I had already e-mailed about it.

I called on it as I was having another issue.
The tech I spoke with said there have been some issues with the app and if it had already updated, don't worry.

The issue I was calling on related to Family Library and I'll note it here in hopes it helps someone.
Under your Amazon Manage Your Content and Devices, there is a section to checkmark under your Audible app to have Audible books from both accounts show on your app.

I sent Audible an email about this. They emailed me back and said they were very sorry to cause me concern but the email was sent accidentally. Then they gave me $10 to compensate for all my trouble. :-)

message 120: by Lori (new)

Lori Moran | 8 comments Same here. This is an update? They told me the same thing someone later on said, uninstall the app and then reinstall. Really????? I have oveer 150 books!!!

message 121: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments I have tried twice now to uninstall and reinstall the android app. I have completely removed all of my books and presently have only one. Same issue as before. It still crashes completely and I have to exit and restart the app. It never crashed before thet did the update.

message 122: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments Sprint pushed the newest Android OS, Lollipop, to my phone this morning. Now, the Audible app is working almost perfectly again.

message 123: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 495 comments Since updating to the latest iOS 2.5.2 I'm constantly being asked to "turn off airplane mode or turn on wifi".
Which I won't, at night in my own bed (or indeed in any bed).
It's especially bothersome because the pop up comes back several times. And I had to log in a couple of times in a few weeks time, probably related to this spying/monitoring app wanting me to stay connected...

Now going to try 2.5.3 but I doubt this update will help. Fingers crossed.

Hey Vicky,

We're jumping in. We did recognize that there was a broken link included in the email, however we have released the most update Android app version, 1.9 since 6/19/2015. If you go into your Google Play Store>Apps>Updates you'll find the update available to install. We're sorry for the confusing email but hope all goes well with this new patch. Let us know if you need any further assistance!

message 125: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 495 comments Well, updating to 2.5.3 is a joy... not. After telling me to put off airplane mode or turn on wifi, I have an extra pop up telling me there is no network available... really? That's normal in airplane mode....

And I had 3 crashes and had to log in again crash crash. What a bothersome app this has become.

message 126: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments Since updating my Android app from version 1.8 to 1.9 I seem to have fixed my constant app crashes. At least it has not crashed in several days so I am hopeful at least until the next update. We will see what happens then.

message 127: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Piper (rachelpiper) | 2 comments Nitpicky question, but: I feel that at one point, my iOS app "remembered" my unfinished filter, and would show me only unfinished books when I opened the app. Now, though, I have to reset that filter each time I open the app. I can live with it, but it gets more annoying the more books I acquire — I like to be able to see quickly what I've still got to read!

message 128: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 495 comments The latest iOS 2.5.5 got rid of the black screen. Still crashes. Today my whole library is gone. Great.
I'm debating to ask a refund and be done with Audible. Can it possibly go worse? More important, when will things improve?

message 129: by Michael (new)

Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments Why? Just because the app messed up doesn't mean you have somehow lost your books. Download them again. Contact customer service.

Apps have bugs. It is a fact of life. And sadly as time passes it gets worse rather than better with programs. Unlike electronics and real engineering...

My iPad is at iOS 8.4, as is my iPhone. What are you using that has iOS 2.5.5?

Frances (shibagirl) | 151 comments I have an older ipod touch ,( gen 3 I think ) which can no longer cope with the new audible updates , and when I tried and logged out , big mistake !!!! I lost all my curent downloaded books and as I can not log in again, (just says that my email/code is wrong ) which it is not, It now seems that I can not listen to anybooks on this device anymore. Has anyone else found any solutions with the older models

message 132: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) | 233 comments That's what I don't like about Apple devices. Their stuff is only good for so many years and the you have to UPGRADE. Not everyone can afford to do that. Like me.

message 133: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1189 comments That's the way of the digital world, and it's not restricted to Apple. The operating system gets updated, the software gets updated. Keep using the old operating system and pretty soon, your software won't work. I was happy using Windows XP until the software I use for my livelihood upgraded to the point that I could no longer use XP and had to buy a new computer. In my line of work, I am frequently upgrading my system because I can't afford a computer crash.

message 134: by Janice (last edited Aug 14, 2015 11:41AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1189 comments Further to that, it's not just the devices that constantly upgraded. I log in daily to the government's website. They recently added a cautionary notification saying that if your device is more than 5 years old, you may have trouble using their website.

message 135: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) | 233 comments Janice, I know it's all digital devices. Since I have an iPod Touch I was relaying to my experience.

message 136: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1189 comments Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were implying that if you had something other than Apple, you would have a different experience.

Not iOS 2.5.5., it's the Audible app 2.5.5 (the latest)!

Did you check if you are on the right Audible library? Whenever I'm logged off, it automatically changes to the standerd audible.com and then I have to change to audible uk first...

LOL! So that's where the confusion came in. I saw iOS 2.5.5 and I thought you were referring to Apple's Operating system. The only issue I've had with Audible's recent upgrades is that the sync between devices is broken. When at home, I listen on my iPad. When I'm in the car, I use my iPhone. The two devices used to sync really quickly. Now, I have to manually check to make sure they're sync'ed. The latest update to the app fixed it a bit, but it's still problematic.

And I hate the orange icon. Why do they keep upgrading useless stuff, and don't address the important issues?

I also have an older ipod touch which cannot be upgraded to the latest apple ios system, and cannot download the newest audible update.

I am now able to listen to my books with itunes. I download my books to my PC, import them into my PC's itunes account, then use my PC's itunes account to transfer the book to my ipod touch. I then listen to the book in itunes.

The Audible online helpdesk was able to email to me written instructions for the process. I hope this will be of help to you.

(I will mention the Audible phone support was not helpful. I was just told to purchase a new device). But the email support was great.

Hi Kdbrand, this is Audible Social Support. We're sorry to hear you're having any issue with inaccurate listening stats on your Audible app. We'd love to help with this. Which model device are you using the app with? In the meantime, you may try signing out of the application, rebooting your device and signing back in. We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you.

message 145: by Frances (new)

Frances (shibagirl) | 151 comments Thanks Jeannine, I had tried to email Audible and just got no reply, but It seams that Audible have no solution to theb"old App " issue, I just really wish they had warned us not to log out, because it seems that we then can not log in again .
We had been getting emails for months in advance telling us to upgrade to the new App, I just really wish that they in the same mail had explained that the would be a problem with old old App and logging in., then I could have set up the families Old devises on each their accounts and we just could have swapped devises.
I have always found Audible's customer support to be fantastic, but just not in this case.

message 148: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Muino (dmuino) | 1 comments Does anyone else have trouble when trying to rewind using an iphone earpods? It happens quite frequently for me that when trying to go back 30 seconds (triple click) instead it goes back to the beginning of the chapter, which is very frustrating when running. If I triple click and hold to rewind in a controlled manner it goes back to the beginning of the chapter. I have stopped listening to audiobooks while running because of this. This has been happening for quite a few versions of the app. I try again with every update to see if the problem's been fixed, but no luck so far.

message 149: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 495 comments I have given up on triple clicking long ago; don't now if it's the Audible app, I mostly struggle with not that great earphones.

I do have a problem with resume play and this is denitely the Audible app. As soon as you have used one or more other apps, it tends to go "to sleep" or something, very annoying. Sometimes it takes a really long time to "wake up" after tapping it, too!

message 150: by David S. T. (last edited Oct 09, 2015 07:03AM) (new)

David S. T. | 8 comments It seems that for the past year every single audible app release has been worse than the ones a year ago. Here are some problems with the current app (There are about a dozen other annoyances, but I can live with those).

OS: IOS 9.02
Phone: IPhone 5
Version: 2.6.1 (377)

1. PreOrders never show up in the app when they are released. In this case I pre-ordered Locke and Key and while it's in my library on the website, it's not in the app.

2. New York Times Audio Digest: with the latest version of the app, it appears that only the latest 10 digests are kept, personally I don't appreciate the app deleting things I downloaded before I do. The fact that the app can delete this is troubling.
