In other news, apparently I have 12 cavities. woo! "
:(
I hate dentists. I'm sorry.
It's cool. I'm more worried about the cost than actually having cavities. But I think I can get at least half of them filled with silver, which is covered by the insurance... so it'll just depend on how many are in visible places, really.

Except when they use that gas stuff. Then it's not too bad lol.
Yeah, they said something when I was making my appointment for the fillings that they like to do them earlier in the day so that if something happens, and I have an anxiety attack or something, they could use the gas.I was like, "I'll take the gas. Is that an option?"
I only did the gas once, but it was cool...
I don't think the dentists have gas here :( I've never needed it, but I've never heard of anyone getting gas at the dentists so...
MrsJoseph wrote: "I was put to sleep when I had my wisdom teeth removed. No gas. :( I feel left out."Lol awww
"Sleep Dentistry" is the only way they would ever get me back in that chair.I would rather be chased by a bear than go to the dentist. Not kidding.

True story.
They only use the gas for things like root canals and grumpy patients like me. For wisdom teeth removal they have to put you under. It's too intense to remain awake for, even drugged.
I hate needles too, which makes it all even worse. I had 4 cavities filled once without any novocaine since I'd rather go through it in pain than get stuck with a needle in my jaw.
I'm pretty sure they don't normally put you under to remove wisdom teeth here... You just get get the needle to numb the area. And no gas.I've never had a cavity so I'm no expert though, just from what people have told me.
Huh, maybe it's just the oral surgeons around here. Everyone I know has been put under for that. My poor wifey just had 7 cavities filled and a root canal.
IMO, there is something worse than a visit to the dentist, and that's a rectal examination. It makes you feel that you're being molested and there's nothing you can do about it. It's also quite hard to look the doctor in the face afterwards.

No need to feel awkward at all :)
(easier said then done, I know...)
It's not the feeling awkward I mind. It's the feeling that I'm not allowed to get even with the doctor... :(
I had the gas when I had a root canal and crown. It made me feel happy. All the tools suddenly seemed super interesting and cool.Got put under for wisdom teeth.. It was lame, I thought they'd warn me and I'd get to count back from 100 or something, but I'm sitting there waiting for them to give me the mask one second, and the next they were saying you did great and making me stand up. I guess the sedative was in the IV :P
Usually they just give me shots for any other dental work. I HATE the shots. HATE. I feel anxious thinking about them. HATE!
I have to get a filling next Tuesday :( They said it should only take 5 minutes or so, it's a facial or some such procedure. But still.... :(
Chris wrote: "It's not the feeling awkward I mind. It's the feeling that I'm not allowed to get even with the doctor... :("Lol! :)
I've never had a shot at the dentist, not looking forward to it though... I'm sure I will have to at some point... My luck can't last forever I guess :(

We get regular pelvic exams. And when they do paps [here, at least] they take out this tiny bristle brush and scrape the insides of our cervix.
I hate those.

Yea I think that one is the same no matter where you have it done... Not the most fun for sure...
MrsJoseph wrote: "We get regular pelvic exams. And when they do paps [here, at least] they take out this tiny bristle brush and scrape the insides of our cervix..."And sometimes there's a surprise rectal exam thrown in there for free as well. That's always weird.
DoodlePanda wrote: "Yea I think that one is the same no matter where you have it done... Not the most fun for sure... "Ugh. They're the worst.

agreed.

I know the feeling.
TIL......that no matter how much paperwork you do, someone will always fuck it up and require a "personal touch."
FML
It's 8 pm here, and I'm considering going to bed... Only got like 2 hrs sleep last night/this morning and I have to get up at 6 am tomorrow to go to work...

I was wrong before when I said I had gas - I was put under for my wisdom teeth, not gased. So I've never had the happy gas.
I think for 12 cavities I should get some, though. :D
I once got a cavitiy filled without novacaine, but not by choice. The doctor decided since it wasn't that deep I wouldn't need it.
Then the doctor hit a nerve and I wanted to punch him in the face.
Never again.
And I think with wisdom teeth it depends on whether it's a pull or an extraction. I had the full extraction, so under I went.

Re: pelvic exams - oh gods, the scraping. I hate the scraping.
The best was the one time I went and they didn't get a good enough sample, and I had to go back!
And then the bastards charged me a second copay for their fukup!
I was so not happy.
Never had a surprise rectal exam, though. O_O
MrsJoseph wrote: "What, Ala? You've never had a doctor go, "Surprise! We're headed up your ass!"?"
I'm pretty sure if a doctor ever tried that with me, I'd force him to inspect his own rectum by shoving his head up his own ass.
I need to stop reading this thread since my brain never engaged today. Dental work, pap smears, rectal exams, and then I see the words:
"I was wrong before when I said I had gas"
*sigh*
Oh, but on-topic, I actually have had the "surprise ass probe" during an exam. My doctor just said, "Oh, didn't I tell you I was going to do that?"
No, bitch, you most certainly did NOT.
I would tell my dental horror stories but they are truly awful. Too awful to share.
Christa wrote: ""I was wrong before when I said I had gas"*sigh*"
Ha!
Well, if we're talking about the other kind of gas... that's a whole different story. ;)

Are you freaking serious???!~ I would have been mad as hell, too.

LOL!
The thing is...you don't know...until they go [up, that is].
So it'd totally be an "after the fact" head up ass revenge.

I have totally been laughing at work with this on. Well, snickering if nothing else.
