Knarik yes, if it plays mp3, then you can.

I didn't know that they made CD players that play MP3s.

It's more than a bit over-rated. Things are pretty much the same, but a little more sleek. Cell phones? They've shrunk down to nothing. People walk around with little headsets on talking to themselves more, so it's sort of like NYC circa 1988. Also, if you have any retirement savings with a company called Enron, you may want to dump it fast. Please allow me to issue warm greetings from the future!

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Today I realized two of my sons and I were all singing along to Taylor Swift in the car.

It was not the manliest of moments.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I love that you sing with your boys in the car, RA. It's so cute!

message 556: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Thanks, Jacks. You can sing along, too:)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments "She wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts..."

You are lucky the lyrics weren't the other way around, RA. :)

message 558: by Knarik (new)

Knarik I sing along RA!

message 559: by Natasha (new)

Natasha R. | 33 comments honestly im into the punk rock, rockabilly psychobilly scene. soooo the next five bands getting ready to play on my ipod are mad sin, nekromantix, koffin kats, the coffin nails, and zombie ghost train

message 560: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I just learned about Queercore on a thread in another group (yes, TCers, I play around on you) and am looking forward to exploring some of those artists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queercore

message 561: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments And surprisingly, I couldn't pick up public radio for long stretches on my trip up here, so I was singing alnog with you and the boys more often than I'd care to admit, RA.

message 562: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Mindy's a group slut AND King pimp.

And Jacks...let's just say if Taylor Swift's lyrics are a problem you don't want to be around when I break out the Amy Grant...

message 563: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Taylor was in Omaha the other night. Big crowds on the street headed to the Qwest.

message 564: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Sluts and pimps just go together.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I've enjoyed some Amy Grant in my time, back when I had a brief flirtation with Christian music.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai...

message 566: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I used to have a crush on Amy. A long time ago.

message 567: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I go secular Amy Grant...

message 568: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I always did like "El Shaddai."

message 569: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I didn't care about the music, to be honest.

message 570: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I love it KD. Thank you.

message 571: by [deleted user] (new)

Nice name for a band - Group Slut Mindy & The King Pimps

message 572: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Haha, no that's the first time I've seen it. Barry White! LMAO!

(And I am so incrediby honored to have my slutty pimpiness immortalized in a thread title! Thanks Sally or RA!)

Oh, it's always me.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh, good, you fixed the link, KD!

message 575: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments See, I thought so, but I didn't think you were on right now and I knew RA had commented recently, so I wondered if he had taken over the sacred thread-naming in your absence.

Thank you, SALLY!

Isn't there a band called the King Pimps already?

message 576: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Oh, I'm so on right now.

message 579: by [deleted user] (new)

or verbosably expert thread namer

That's it! I dare you to change it.

message 581: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments thanks for the links to the chinese music. i will try to get something downloaded on my ipod. will be a fun night.

i did totally screw up first attempt at making fortune cookies last night. mixed up recipe and followed directions (mostly) and ended up with gooey globs. after several attempts i gave up and painstakingly cleaned everything up. my wife asked me "did you use powdered sugar?" to which i replied "no, i used regular sugar and flour." she then told me i didn't use flour, i used powdered sugar from the canister. ooopsie. no wonder they tasted so good but never baked up.

round two tonight

Springsteen is coming to Baltimore for the first time since 1973, and I think I will be out of town.

I have the score from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon it would make nice back ground music/ Also when you read your fortunes make sure they say "In Bed" after. Very funny. You are such a good dad!

message 585: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I think the "in bed" might come out extra creepy given the fortunes Kevin is using.

"Your dog Sparky… well, he’s no longer missing"
In Bed????

You're sick, Michelle. No two ways about it.

message 586: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments It's damn funny, that's what it is.

message 587: by Heidi (last edited Aug 12, 2009 12:26PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Kevin - I have two great CDs I'd recommend, except they're not Chinese per say... they're Japanese flute or strings mostly, some vocals.

Tony Scott's Zen Music for Meditation is wonderful (on permanent rotation at my home).

Also I have Ensemble Nipponia - Japan Traditional Vocal and Instrumental Music.

Both are very relaxing and lovely.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" - Nick Cave
"Mexican Radio" - Wall of Voodoo
"Crossfire" - SRV

message 589: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Dig, Lazarus, Dig is one goofy sounding song. It sounds like Nick Cave spoofing himself to me.

message 590: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Jackie hearts Nick Cave.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I do! I listened to "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" twice in a row, even.

Yeah, it is a more tongue-in-cheek version of his style, Sarah Pi. I like it for that.

message 592: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I'm about to be listening to all my French chansons collections since I got to thinking about all my faves in that other thread. Now I'm craving them!

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments KD, did you see the Anvil documentary? (The Celtic Frost pics on the youtube page made me think of it.)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Heh, the "barbecued iguana" nerdy line delivery in the Celtic Frost version of "Mexican Radio" cracks me up!

"Wild Night" - Van Morrison
"Eight Miles High" - The Byrds

message 598: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Ooh. I love the Trinity Sessions. That's one of those albums that's really worth listening to start to finish in this shuffled music world.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments BTW - the fortune cookies came out great! not exactly perfect but very cool. again i made a huge mess and had the whole kitchen in a sticky mess (which i totally cleaned up). i made about 48 of them which took like 2.5 hours (after softball game) but it was totally worth it as they will be appreciated i am sure. my new fav fortune in a couple of them:

"Chef clazy. Lun. Lun fo yu live!"
