Matthieu | 1009 comments L. Williams is definitely closer, Sally.

message 452: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Thanks

message 453: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments I could send you a few songs if you'd like, Larry. A sample.

message 454: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) That would be great!

message 455: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments I can't decide whether or not I like Pete Yorn.

Listening to Radical Face & The Whitest Boy Alive.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments KD - don't prepare nothing. totally wing it. you have been a fan since the 4th grade for crying out loud. you know exactly what you want to ask. fav solo? best kiss song to perform? fav tricked/rigged guitar? who his fav guitar player is? who he think wails now?

message 457: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Scarlett Johansenn does a spectacular rendition of the Gershwin classic Summertime. I'm kicking myself for not getting that cd all those years ago...

Nools, Pete Yorn's ahiiight. I dig his music okay, but I wouldn't call myself a fan necessarily. Just... if I hear his music, I typically ask "Who's that?" and then when I find out it's Pete Yorn, I'm like, "Oh yeah... sounds like his stuff."

My Florida bff went to high school with a guy in his band... who wrote a song about her... which Pete performs supposedly - Susie Smiles. I've never heard it, but I know it exists. She's met Pete.

message 458: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I liked a few songs on Pete Yorn's "musicforthemorningafter"... "A Girl Like You", and "Life on A Chain". haven't bought anything of his in a while.

message 459: by Heidi (last edited Aug 07, 2009 09:37AM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'm listening to lots of soothing (mostly)instrumental music so I can try to focus and get some work done. I'm still waiting for it to kick in.

Right now, I'm listening to Bulgarian Radio and Television Mixed Choir; Mikhael Milkov's I Have Chosen the Blissful.

message 464: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments Huzzah, KD! There's something about Craig Finn's shout-singing that gets me excited every time.

Today is all about the greatness that is Amon Tobin and his colon-moving bass lines. Jazz-inflected drum and bass from one of my all-time favorite producers. I'm still half-deaf from the show last night. Sometimes the speaker just needs to be hugged...

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Camille Saint-Saëns' Le Cygne (The Swan)

Divine. Beautiful. I've cheated a bit... on my 5th listen now, will likely go for a 6th. ♥

message 467: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I enjoyed Julie's sons, Matt. Thanks again. I'll go get some more soon.

message 468: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The Hold Steady are amazing...amazing amazing amazing. No doubt.

message 469: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm listening to the guy in the cubical next me talk loudly on a conference call on speaker. It's very distracting. I may have to take a walk outside soon to get away from it.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm listening to "Little Fluffy Clouds" by The Orb, featuring Rickie Lee Jones talking about the Arizona skies of her childhood.

message 471: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I love that song.

message 472: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments A guy at work burned me Drive By Truckers, The Fine Print. I think it's probably unethical because it's not out until September 1st but I couldn't say no to Drive By Truckers.
I am happy to report that Patterson Hood does cover Tom Petty's "Rebels" on track 2. I thought I heard him singing it in an episode of "King of the Hill" but then could never find it and thought maybe I was crazy. Made my day!! That might seem stupid but I've had a shitty couple of days so I'm taking what I can get.

message 473: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Right now I'm listening to the True Blood soundtrack. Oy, that man's voice gets to me! ;)

message 474: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, that's awesome, Gretchen! I didn't realize that was coming out so soon...must track it down...

I think the Patterson Hood solo record (Murdering Oscar) is already out, right? He did a few solo shows not long back, including one in Chicago, but I couldn't get down to it....

message 475: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments I would like to make it to Richmond for their show at The National with Tift Merritt.

message 476: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yeah, that would be a great double-bill...I don't have any gigs lined up at all in the future, now that I think about it. Nothing's coming of much interest.

message 477: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm listening to John Denver Country Road that's been stuck in my head since I woke up today.

message 478: by RandomAnthony (new)

Be nice RA!

message 480: by Félix (last edited Aug 08, 2009 03:27PM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) I finally got that damn song out of my head. It's so bizarre to wake up with a song playing that isn't really playing and that you haven't actually heard for, like, years.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
My mom likes John Denver a lot too. And Cat Stevens. Not to mention Rod Stewart.

Y'all familiar enough with my mom, by now?

message 482: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Got a pretty good picture.

I don't know. Can you please share some diary passages? I've been meaning to ask...:)

message 485: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I have a friend who is always getting told he looks just like John Denver.

He went as dead John Denver for Halloween a couple of years ago.
He's an artist. I feel like I should plug his pretty landscapes since I'm posting a photo of him.

Gorgeous painting, Mr. Buchanan.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh, hey, Robyn Hitchcock! I used to hear a lot of his stuff, because I have a friend that I shared an apartment with back in college who is a big fan.

I like him, too, partially just because Robert does. And because anyone with a song called "My Wife and My Dead Wife" is just going to appeal to me...

message 489: by [deleted user] (new)

Dinosaur Jr.
The Walkmen
Saviours

Are going to be in Central Park while we are in New York - It would probably just be my daughter and me, does anyone have a recommendation on likes or dislikes?

message 490: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Um ... I like Central Park.

message 491: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Jim, I don't know any of those, but if they're any good, maybe I'll go, too!

KD, that piss-sharing story is the best!

message 492: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) That is cool, KD.

Well let's see if anyone has any info.

message 494: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I think the Walkmen are a great band live -- way better than on CD. Very compelling.

I haven't listened to Dinosaur Jr. since the nineties, but my guitarist just bought their new album. He was driving up to New Jersey, and heard a song on the radio that he liked so much he called the station to find out what it was, and it was them. He says the new album is excellent, if you like their thing. They still sound like they did in the nineties.

Depending on your daughter's age, she might appreciated the Walkmen more than Dinosaur Jr., if it is a choice and not a triple bill.

message 495: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Sarah, It looks like a triple bill, just not sure of our plans yet, so may have to miss some of it. If the consensus is that one is significantly better than they others I would try to make a concerted effort to try and be there when they are playing.

message 496: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Wow. I want to hear Jim's review. Dinosaur Jr. are sort of a legendary band...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments "Praise You" - Fatboy Slim

message 498: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I've been listening to Christmas instrumental - you know, The Nutcracker, Skater's Waltz, Charlie Brown Christmas...

message 499: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Is that a psychological trick, like putting up photos of snowmen? Are you trying to will to feel like winter?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Love it, Heidi! I've got "Skating" from Charlie Brown Christmas on regular rotation.
