#44 – Yeah, Lea’s methods are rough. Way too über-mean mentor for me.

#46 – I’m trying to figure out why they would be together… despite a common goal.

#47 – Yes, it remains to be seen what HWWB is all about. I want to know how Harry will get his body back, too, and what shape it will be in.

#49 – I can see why she’s regressed, but I don’t like it.

#51 – Agree with you about Daniel. Glad the ME stuff was explained, too; that was bugging me.

#52 – True, very true.

#53 – Ah! You could be right.

#54 – Yes, I’m enjoying Sir Stuart, too.

#57 – Definitely. Evil Bob is pretty “whack-a-doodle.”

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I finished. Whoa.

I would write DQs, but I'm all caught up in Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs , which came out today. I should be finished soon and then I'll post DQs. Promise.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 44 – 51

58. Evil Bob makes an offer to Harry, which we knew he wouldn’t accept. But still, were you surprised at the offer? BTW, yay to our Bob! (I must admit, I was worried there for a minute or two.)

59. BOOK QUOTE:
“Well, crap,” I muttered. “Over.” It takes this remark to convince Murphy – AKA “Polly Plastique” – that Harry is really Harry? LOL!

60. I don’t care if they are helping along with the spook squad, the Lecter Spectors are creepy. I did laugh over that little girl ghost scowling at Harry – when he told them they were going to destroy the physical representations of the wards – as if he’d told her “to eat a hated vegetable.” LOL!

61. What did we learn in Chapter 46? Always carry a protein bar when confronting evil minions.
62. Rag Lady… PMS jokes? Eeww. I didn’t even think of that before then. Was this necessary? Or did you find it humorous? Comments.

63. Now we know why Mort was keeping the Lecter Spectors around him – to keep them safe from Corpsetaker.

64. Did you like the way Harry defeated Boz – the “human garbage truck”? Did any of Harry’s memories stand out to you? Hard for me to choose, but I did enjoy this tee-shirt:
65. Man-oh-man! I knew that wasn’t the real Butters. Didn’t you? (But, at least he was safe and “living the dream” in the end; I was worried for more than a little bit there that was the end of him.)

66. How many times is Harry physical body going to get killed?

67. What did you think of Molly’s mind; the Star Trek Enterprise crewed all by Mollies? Did you have a fav? LOL! What did you think of her fortress?

68. Whoa. I wasn’t expecting THAT as the reveal of Harry’s killer. JB never ceases to amaze me. I remember thinking in Changes, when he’d broken his back, that that part was glossed over too much – and very was unusual for JB. He sure pulled one over on me. Comments.

69. And we now see what we haven’t seen much of Thomas in this volume…

70. Who exactly was the fallen angel who whispered in Harry’s ear? Is it important that we know, or not? Is there a risk he’ll appear again in a future book? Did he do it on his own or did someone prompt him?

71. See? I told you there was something hinky about Jack Murphy!

72. BOOK QUOTE:
“The distinction between good and evil is meaningless if one does not have the freedom to choose between them.” And Harry gets another job offer – this time from Uriel. Comments.

73. Molly soulgazes with Corpsetaker! That’s gonna leave a mark, right? Were you proud of her?

74. I really didn't understand the loophole to Thomas’ condition, that if Justine made love to another woman, then Thomas will be able to make love to her? Why didn’t they just do this before?

75. I loved the reunion with Mouse and that Harry got to see Maggie safe with the Carpenters. Perfect place for her. And Mouse is going to live a good, long life. **Phew!**

76. Mab, Demonreach, IVs, and parasites!!! Well, that whole earlier conversation with Inez about monsters takes on much more significance now.

77. BOOK QUOTE:
Lies. Mab cannot change who you are.” Is Harry now better prepared to be the Winter Knight? I can’t wait for the next installment. You?

58. Evil Bob makes an offer to Harry, which we knew he wouldn’t accept. But still, were you surprised at the offer? BTW, yay to our Bob! (I must admit, I was worried there for a minute or two.)

I wasn’t expecting the offer and was surprise. I was worried too , I was thinking who was going to help him get out of the situation this time when Bob saved the day. Did Bob ever come out of Nevernever? If not I believe he is going join Harry in his journey to Mab’s court

59. BOOK QUOTE: “Well, crap,” I muttered. “Over.” It takes this remark to convince Murphy – AKA “Polly Plastique” – that Harry is really Harry? LOL!
Finally!!!!!lol

60. I don’t care if they are helping along with the spook squad, the Lecter Spectors are creepy. I did laugh over that little girl ghost scowling at Harry – when he told them they were going to destroy the physical representations of the wards – as if he’d told her “to eat a hated vegetable.” LOL!

I really liked the twin , I was sad to see them being eaten !

61. What did we learn in Chapter 46? Always carry a protein bar when confronting evil minions.

LMAO

62. Rag Lady… PMS jokes? Eeww. I didn’t even think of that before then. Was this necessary? Or did you find it humorous? Comments.

Hmm I didn’t pay much attention to it ,heard it and forgot it,I didn’t laugh and it didn’t stand out to me so I guess I can say that it wasn’t necessary

63. Now we know why Mort was keeping the Lecter Spectors around him – to keep them safe from Corpsetaker.

I was surprised that he got angry at Harry for brining in the Lecter Spectors and then we found out the reason

64. Did you like the way Harry defeated Boz – the “human garbage truck”? Did any of Harry’s memories stand out to you? Hard for me to choose, but I did enjoy this tee-shirt:

Nothing stood out over the others but I really really liked how he remembered his life .It shows what kind person he was

65. Man-oh-man! I knew that wasn’t the real Butters. Didn’t you? (But, at least he was safe and “living the dream” in the end; I was worried for more than a little bit there that was the end of him.)
Nope ,not until he had the gun on Harry! I was so WORRIED, I thought he was gone ,so glad JB didn’t kill him off!

66. How many times is Harry physical body going to get killed?

I really hope this was the last time

67. What did you think of Molly’s mind; the Star Trek Enterprise crewed all by Mollies? Did you have a fav? LOL! What did you think of her fortress?

Weird , liked it, just went with it

68. Whoa. I wasn’t expecting THAT as the reveal of Harry’s killer. JB never ceases to amaze me. I remember thinking in Changes, when he’d broken his back, that that part was glossed over too much – and very was unusual for JB. He sure pulled one over on me. Comments.

I was shocked sooooo shocked ! Yes in Changes the way he woke up in the church without remembering anything after getting in to the van really stood out for me. I guess all Mab’s emphasis on not killing himself was foreshadowing

69. And we now see what we haven’t seen much of Thomas in this volume…
I missed him in this one

70. Who exactly was the fallen angel who whispered in Harry’s ear? Is it important that we know, or not? Is there a risk he’ll appear again in a future book? Did he do it on his own or did someone prompt him?

Are you thinking it was one of Nichodemos’s fallen? I don’t think so. I believe Uriel was referring to Satan ,Lucifer or a fallen in that capacity.

71. See? I told you there was something hinky about Jack Murphy!

LOL ,I loved how he manipulated Harry

72. BOOK QUOTE: “The distinction between good and evil is meaningless if one does not have the freedom to choose between them.” And Harry gets another job offer – this time from Uriel. Comments.
We have a saying ,it says “ The stone is free ,so is the bird “ (Just throw the stone you might hit the bird and if you don’t ,no worries , both were free! ) it was one of those offers , he knew Harry wouldn’t accept but he just offered ,just in case

73. Molly soulgazes with Corpsetaker! That’s gonna leave a mark, right? Were you proud of her?
Yep , she seems so strong and mighty now

74. I really didn't understand the loophole to Thomas’ condition, that if Justine made love to another woman, then Thomas will be able to make love to her? Why didn’t they just do this before?

I thought of that too , why hadn’t they done it before? Maybe because it wasn’t necessary .Thomas was feeding elsewhere . or maybe because they had to have the other girl handy . Justine has to be with girl each time she is with Thomas **Shrugs** I didn’t like it ! I don’t know why

75. I loved the reunion with Mouse and that Harry got to see Maggie safe with the Carpenters. Perfect place for her. And Mouse is going to live a good, long life. **Phew!**
that was a relief and Lauren was right!

76. Mab, Demonreach, IVs, and parasites!!! Well, that whole earlier conversation with Inez about monsters takes on much more significance now.

I was 100% sure that his body was in Demonreach. That was the only logical place for it to be. But I didn’t see Mab helping him to stay alive . and she was so thin , she had been sitting there for 6 months keeping him alive

77. BOOK QUOTE: “Lies. Mab cannot change who you are.” Is Harry now better prepared to be the Winter Knight? I can’t wait for the next installment. You?

Here comes my big disappointment in this book! There was no point in it. Just like Harry said all his friends and family went through the grief of his death. Molly , Murphy and Thomas had the hardest time. He needed the power of winter Knight to save his daughter but he preferred death to act as the WK so he arranged his own murder. With angelic interference he became the WK again ,what was the point in all this? Yes he learned a lot and started to look differently at things ,understood that “Lies. Mab cannot change who you are.” but I still wasn’t happy with the resolve of this book.
2 more things: I didn’t like Fitz story ,I still think they were page fillers.
There were too many long inner monologues ,I was bored at times ,this had never happened to me while listening to one of Harry’s books. In this one he dissected and analysed everything to death over and over!

#58 – As far as I know, Bob is still in the Nevernever.

#59 – Really. LOL!

#60 – Yes, I didn’t like that part.

#62 – Yes, not necessary.

#63 – Same here.

#65 – Yes, I would have been pretty perturbed if JB killed him off.

#68 – As I said before, you could have knocked me over with a feather after the reveal.

#69 – Ditto. I almost made it a question, at one point.

#70 – At first I thought it was Lucifer… but then I started over thinking it.

#72 – Aha.

#74 – I thought JB was writing himself around this one. If that sentence makes sense.

#75 – Yay, Lauren!

#76 – Well, I was just the opposite as you. I didn’t think of Demonreach – you clever girl, you – but I was very suspicious that Mab was somehow intrinsically connected in his death… but instead, she was instrumental in keeping him alive.

#77 – Oh, I think Harry needed to go through this – death, that is – in order to prepare him for his future adventures. However, I was surprised he had arranged his own death. It seems like such a thoughtless thing for him to do to his family and friends. But to avoid being a monster? Maybe.

I felt the Fitz story was a connection to Harry’s own youthful indiscretions and to give him someone to be more compassionate towards. (Not to mention Murphy.)

I didn’t like this book as much as some of the others; I gave it 4½ stars instead of 5. I kept trying to figure out if it was the narrator, or because there was just too, too much fighting and combat. It felt like so much more to me this time around. But, you could be right about the inner monologues; they took me awhile to wade through. Maybe they were the reason.

Hmmm that's another way of looking at that story line .Interesting !Let me think about it

kept trying to figure out if it was the narrator

for me 1/2 star for the narrator !

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments ShoSho wrote: "#74.But did you like it?"

Hmmmm... Good question. Let me think on it. I know it bugged me a bit because I thought JB was just writing himself around it.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments This book took me the longest to read of all the Dresden books. That says something, doesn't it? Was it just because I didn't like Harry being dead? **shrugs** I don't know. I think it was a multiple factors.

Re Briggs' books - I've read both series and enjoyed them although I prefer A&O more, possibly because I don't like the way the female characters (other than Mercy and Julie) are portrayed.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Lauren's Answers to Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 44 – 51

58. Not surprised he made the offer - it would be besting Our Bob if he managed to lure Harry to the darkside *wiggles eyebrows*. So glad that Our Bob came to the rescue!

59. Lol!

60. Very creepy indeed!

61. Don't leave home without it...

62. Didn't really notice this.

63. I felt sorry for the Lecter Spectors. They've gotten a raw deal.

64. It was a good walk down memory lane but if I'm remembering correctly, there was no memory associated with Murphy, which I found surprising.

65. OMG! I was really worried for Butters there. I would be devastated if he died for good :0(

66. As many as it takes ;0)

67. Sorry but I didn't like this bit. It felt like filler to me and was too drawn out.

68. It wasn't as much of a surprise as it could have been if JB hadn't built up to it really well. By the time the info was out in the open, I had already guessed.

69. Poor Thomas! He really took Harry's death badly but I'm glad that he has Justine to help him snap out of it (interesting therapy method she has going there though).

70. Wondering if it is someone associated with the Denarians. They were conspicuous in their absence in this book.

71. Yes, he did seem to fudge the truth a bit there but he had good intentions.

72. That is a great quote. Reminds me of Dumbledore's it is our choices that define who were are in HP.

73. Yes, Molly really came through there.

74. Yes, it does come out of nowhere doesn't it?

75. Love Mouse! I'm so glad I was right about Maggie being with the Carpenters :0) Very apt.

76. Interesting dynamic between Mab and Demonreach. I'm not sure that I understand why they are together on this.

77. I guess Harry will still be Harry even if he is the Winter Knight. It would change who is he on a fundamental level.

Yes, the next book should be good. It will be interesting to have everyone's reactions to Harry being back in the land of the living.

#76. Thanks for the explanation of that ShoSho. Now I get it :0)

Good points about the filler parts. While I liked Fitz's story some of the other sections were unnecessarily drawn out.
