The House of Hades

NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o

Whats the first?

The twist definitely surprised me, but I can't say it bothered me too much, he's just a kid...thirteen or so, and since Percy was the first hero-in-action he ever saw, it makes since that he would have strong feelings about it, it would have been the same if it had been a girl.

What you did there I saw.
people I think Nico will find a guy in the next book( the blood of Olympus)cross your finger for him. BTW it comes out in oct. 10,2014 I think it is on Amozon P.S sorry for any spelling errors

What you did there I saw."
NO you didn't

Sorry to crush your yaoi fantasy but that won't happen. Rick pushed as far as he could go with the currently social/political climate; anything else will result in severe backlash.
The "mommy" groups in America that are against these things will stir things up badly.
Also if Rick goes the way of James Patterson and has some romance crisis in the middle of the war, where people do stupid crap and get themselves captured, thus endangering the others; I will go and write a big FU on his facebook page. Nobody ain't got time for that.

We should be teaching our kids to see love as love, not as a female and a male. And you know what? A lot of kids DO get it. We're just unable to tell them. How is it ANY different from telling a kid "Oh well, boys and girls love each other." How? OH now it's two guys? Two girls? Suddenly its tabboo? No. It isn't.
I'm proud of Rick for doing this. It was more bold than any young readers author of my generation. (And please don't say J.K. Rowling. That hardly counts.)

Me neither.

LOL! I love what you said. Its SO true!

From the context, he probably still does

I have to agree with Blogger. He probably still does. It would especially make since that he still does bc he always has seemed to not like Annabeth that much

Um i think it was something about liking that nico like percy and something about fanfiction i think. nut it was a really good comment

Nothing, he wasn't there much for Nico it's his fault that Nico looked up to Percy as family after Biannca died.
Fun fact Percy is dating his cousin.

You know that's not gonna make a difference? Maybe in a decade or two they will reboot the series but until then.....

That would make her Percy's second cousin... although I didn't want to say that because i get confused with which one of zeus's kids is also his sibling.

i must have really hit a low point in my life to be discussing this for the tenth time but nonetheless,
Unless they bring about the change themselves, unless they realize a need for change of mindsets, western media's lashing out,or even corporate protests, online petitions by celebs or open criticism by government figures (however big they are) WONT WORK.it also shows that you are seeing this topic from prism of larger social issue about which (no matter how much Riordan claims it is)it is not

would have been better if he had taken full measures about it then.

The one with, "this is the thread that never ends" that uses the lamb chop original song as the melody.

Wasn't there something in The Last Olympian about gods not having DNA, so it didn't matter if their kids dated, provided they were from different cabins?

I'm sure Rick just said that to get the incest past the censors or so the book could maintain it's G/PG rating.
They probably don't have DNA but I think Demigods will have problems breeding down the line seeing as they would only be made up of half a double helix...they suppose to be pretty unstable and spontaneously combust on a regular basis.

1. Homophobia as a term is not listed as part of a clinical taxonomy of phobias, therefore its dictionary definition is authority, so arguing the term’s meaning is pointless. It is a hatred, dislike or antipathy towards homosexuals, which is rampant among the arguments from most of the people in this thread who disagree with this development.
2. Arguing that Nico is too young, or that the target audience is too young for this development, is homophobic. No one would have said a word if he had revealed it to be Annabeth. It’s only a problem because Nico likes another boy. If Percy and Annabeth weren’t too young in Lightening Thief or Sea of Monsters to have a crush (when they were 11 and 12), then a 14 year-old Nico certainly isn’t too young to know who he has a crush on.
3. Arguing that it comes out of nowhere is another argument being used to mask one’s homophobia. It would be one thing if Percy all of sudden was revealed to have a crush on Jason (or vice versa), but Nico has had no development with respect to dating. Nico doesn’t fit the stereotypical view of a homosexual (flamboyant; singing show tunes), and only homophobes would have a hard time believing that gays can’t behave any other way. As I previously have said, thousands of families have the same reaction when a close loved-one “comes out”.
4. Up until House of Hades, Nico has had no development related to his romantic interests. It makes Annabeth’s claim that she always thought Nico had a crush on her in The Mark of Athena bizarre. I just finished re-reading the series and nowhere is there any inclination from Nico towards Annabeth. In the Battle of the Labyrinth, Annabeth persuades hime to return to Camp Half-Blood only after Nico refused to do so when Percy tried to persuade him. He even shouts out that he is going to return because she asked him, and not because Percy asked him. That is textbook misdirection, and is very obvious in context of the scene.
The truth is there is nothing in the books that can contradict Nico’s crush on Percy. Much of his behavior towards Percy is textbook psychology. No, it doesn’t mean he had to be gay, but Rick Riordan decided that Nico’s psychology does fit with that development. I re-read the series to see if there were any hints leading up to this. And while there was nothing too specific (Nico goes into the Labyrinth when told Percy is in trouble, and he gets rather upset when he thinks Percy doesn’t trust him after Hades imprisons him), there is nothing that would go against this development. Yes, the psychology could have applied to some other type of development, but Rick Riordan chose this, and nothing in the text would contradict it, so people need to get over this. We get it. You don’t like gay people. Too bad.

THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I would totally give you a standing ovation.

You don't have to be an atheist to support the LGBT community. One of my closest friends is an extremely devoted christian, and she wholeheartedly supports them. And I know plenty of other people just like her. I even know christian gay people.

You yourself just admited it's out of the blue and no I don't believe in stereotypical gays that prance around(drag queens are not the entire community). What I'm seeing you and a bunch of other people doing is looking for(and inventing) confirmation as to how Nico was gay in the original series.
Rick said he is gay now and although there is no facts to prove this people continue to say "yea I saw this", it's true some people probably thought of Nico as gay when they read the series(don't know that there is a thing called grief or they think that if a guy is anti-social it means he is gay) but others are just saying they saw it to fit in(there is a term when people change their views or viewpoint to match another's or they find information or change the facts given to match what they are saying or what's the popular opinion).
Rick wanted a gay character, everyone else was concrete so without introducing a new guy he took single Nico, spewed that his behavior before was because he like Percy and lo and behold a "get out of jail card" so the LGBT community don't petition his website(like they are doing other authors) to put a "strong gay character" into his book.... he already did.
I guess since I'm not jumping on the roof tops screaming how this development is the best thing ever and giving the book 5stars means I'm homophobic, if you are not with us you are against us huh? I also guess that all the books I read before that had gay or bi main or semi main protagonist and I didn't raise a fuss means I have a strong dislike for gays too huh?
It's people like you in the LGBT community that give your group a bad name, you just single handedly call everyone in this thread who didn't like the way it was done or how Rick explained it a homophobe and I'm sure one of those persons supports gay rights or is gay themselves, you can talk about something in a negative light but soon as someone references to something that vaguely has to do with homosexuality yall are up in arms... way to go... and you talk about equality.

I have always loved the Percy Jackson series. I will admit that Nico's coming out threw me for a loop, but I don't really see why there's such a big deal about it. It's already been stated, but homosexuals do exist and they are real people, believe it or not. It's not like feeling an attraction for someone of your gender somehow causes you to lose your soul. And if you actually believe that, I'm sorry but you're just plain stupid.
Nico's sexual preference doesn't have much impact in regards to the storyline. There have not been any events that are specificaly referenced as being a result of his romantic feelings for Percy. If homosexuals offend you, then bye. You don't have to read this series any longer. Just don't pollute my internet with your disparaging comments, and comfort yourselves on knowing that, somehow, you're "right."

I agree. You shouldn`t be making fun of or hurting those kids. I think you should help them out and help them be a better person which, in my opinion, is showing them(in a gentle manner) that they shouldn`t do what they`re doing.
