No offence but I don't like how people say this gay person or that gay person "is the nicest people I know" once you are human you have a darkside(human nature) how the media and some people make it out like gays are the best behaved persons on the planet and they are all easy going and friendly.

There are bad apples in every barrel, I think this goes towards the animosity because people have had bad experiences with gays and take away that they are all the same(same way racism and stereotyping works, one does it they all do).

I don't mean that every gay person is a sweetheart. All I am saying is that just because a person is gay, that doesn't mean that they are a bad person. People assume just because a person is gay, that person is bad and they stay away from him/her. I was just trying to point out that gay people are normal. They are just a tiny bit different from us.

message 954: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Gays are not different, their lifestyles are. But let's face it, everybody has a different lifestyle. Everybody is different from everyone else and why on earth should anybody have a right to look down on somebody else because of who they choose to love or be intimate with? That's saying that their lifestyle is wrong, that yours is right and that they must conform to yours to have the same rights. That's bullshit and everybody knows it. That'd be like a football player getting offended by baseball players practicing in the field. Just because they enjoy something different they feel the need to bash them and try to get them kicked off the field. So they like something different, so freaking what. People need to grow up and understand that not everybody has the same lifestyle as they do and that doesn't make their lifestyle wrong.

But the series is so good. Why stop reading it because of one little thing like that?

message 957: by [deleted user] (new)

I am now convinced that Cupid is an evil person and that Valentines day is just as bad. But the part about death being more kind or something is interesting. But anyway I read the whole book knowing this because my friend told me and that part was really awkward to read in math class.

Seriously you are that un-suportive of that? The biggest right that I feel we need in America is the right to be who we are, and I can't believe there are people out there who hate people and things because and only because they are them selves.

message 960: by [deleted user] (new)

Stupid Cupid. :D That rhymes.

Blogger Girl uhhhh...kinda lost

message 962: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooooh yeah he looks a bit creepy. He fits the description that Rick wrote about him perfectly though. Well, that's because that's the official portrait of Eros, isn't it?

Blogger Girl Oh...cupid is what we're talking about.....hmmm...he is a bit evil but then again love has left many people broken...

Blogger Girl I know. what with the glowing eyes and all

message 965: by [deleted user] (new)

Rick ruined my image of Cupid. I always thought it was a blond baby in a diaper with wings and a bow and arrow. And then I saw that portrait. And then I saw everything in a whole new perspective. Thank you, Rick. Thank you very much for ruining my childhood.

Of course death is kinder than love. Death puts you out of your misery. Love causes it.

message 969: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie ^ love that :)

message 970: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, come on guys love doesn't always cause misery. It made plenty of people quite happy. What's with people changing the view of love these days? It can be a good thing :)

message 971: by [deleted user] (new)

Avalon wrote: "Oh, come on guys love doesn't always cause misery. It made plenty of people quite happy."
Well yeah but it seems to make people sad more often than it makes them happy.

message 972: by JJ (new) - rated it 4 stars

JJ I don't think people are hating on love but rather realizing that it can also bring you to your lowest. It can make you feel pain when it is one-sided, then there is the jealousy that comes with loving someone, and also the petty things you do in the name of love. I think Riordan just exposed the ugly side of love that people usually ignore.

message 973: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep Cupid is definitely evil to me. My image of him changed but maybe for the better. Rick made him look evil to represent that love can sometimes be evil too, right? And I understand that Rick is showing the ugly side of love I'm just trying to say that people these days seem to find love more horrible than beautiful. Love is full of misery though, I definitely get that. It can be such an evil thing :( But it can be beautiful too :)

message 974: by JJ (new) - rated it 4 stars

JJ It can also become a twisted thing, you know like the wicked witch from OZ, I know it's not HoO relevant but it fits

message 975: by Aayush (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aayush {Ryo} I kinda predicted Nico didn't like Annabeth, (though he is awesome,) in the Son of Neptune. And in The Demigod Files. Annabeth knew Nico supposedly liked him, but I didn't believe after thinking about it. But I never thought PERCY!!!???? Oh MY GOD!

message 976: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie I still need to read the demigod files. Are they good?

Ashleigh At the start of the chapter, and when they first saw Cupid, I could sort of tell that Nico was going to be gay. It was a surprise for me because I hadn't picked up anything from any of the previous books, except in the Percy Jackson series how Nico was enthralled by Percy and thought he was amazing, but I just thought that was a little kid looking up to his hero... Anyway, it sort of makes sense now. I was really impressed by this book and I can't wait to read the final one.

message 978: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait how did you understand Bobs story if you didn't read the Demigod Files? Well it's not like you needed to read it but it helps you understand how Iapetus lost his memory and how he became Bob.

message 979: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Yeah I was kinda confused when I read it, but I assumed it was something from the demigod files so I just went along with it.

message 980: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh well you should read it the stories were pretty good. And maybe it could help you understand the HoH even better even if you're done with it (if you're done with it..)

Chrissy I do not agree with you people saying that it's great that Rick Riordan is "supporting gay rights." He is confusing people even more, by making them think that it is okay to be homosexual. The Bible says that it is NOT okay to be homosexual, and I do not want to have others be in Hell when they die because they did not repent (because they didn't think it was wrong due to culture promoting it). I am disappointed that Rick Riordan would even consider putting this in his book, although it was "normal" for the Romans and Greeks to practice homosexuality (a sad truth).

What is wrong with being gay? It is not about the gender of the person you love, it is about the actual person they are on the inside... You love the person, not their gender. Well that's just my opinion and I am a straight 15 year old girl who is way more open minded then you, so you need to grow up and get over it. It's just a book, it is fictional. Who cares about the characters sexuality, it's about the story line and how the characters are going to save Olympus. God created people equally it's just the people who go and decide which are mistakes and which are not. Thank you for your time.

message 985: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Haha... Empty threat to an atheist, dear. A bisexual atheist at that. I guess I need a little extra forgiveness ;)

message 986: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Your hatred of gays has nothing to do with the bible it's based on YOUR OWN PERSONAL PREJUDICES. You are using your religion as a shield to hide behind so just shut up or go bitch about all the books that include divorce, people eating shellfish, people wearing clothes of mixed fabrics, or any of the other stupid laws of Leviticus. Or go sell your daughter as a slave since that's perfectly acceptable in the bible... Keep your religion out of literature, it has no place in these discussions.

Ashleigh Cherie wrote: "Your hatred of gays has nothing to do with the bible it's based on YOUR OWN PERSONAL PREJUDICES. You are using your religion as a shield to hide behind so just shut up or go bitch about all the boo..."

Second that

message 988: by [deleted user] (new)

Ugh people seriously need to stop quoting the bible here. This is not your damn church. And it's annoying to atheists like Cherie and me so please shut up.

message 989: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Oh, I didn't know you were an atheist. :)

message 990: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I think I might've mentioned it before, not sure though :o

message 991: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Oh boy here we go again... gonna get more updates the next time I am on, probably 5 pages of back and forth arguments.

If you don't like gays say so, you have the "right" to say what you want just like everyone else is doing here, just don't use religion. If you think its morally wrong because of your upbringing or life experience say so, don't use the Bible unless you follow it to a T.

I am sure 90% of these Christians didn't wait till marriage to have sex or they just go to church to hook up with each other. People want to interpret the Bible to match their own whims or pick and choose what to follow, if you want to follow it follow it.

I'm a Christian I just can't stand hypocrites though.

Me personally I'm not a hypocrite so I won't quote Bible verses(not like I know them anyways). I don't care what you want to do behind your doors, just don't force stuff down my throat and tell me i "MUST" accept what you say because you are right.

You wanna marry each other? Meh its probably a good way to con/get tax breaks go for it, just don't expect the church to do it for you. You can't force the Church to marry you when its against all that it stands for, go to city hall justice of peace w/e but no... the problem we are having is that they WANT to get married in a church, you push and people will push back.

message 992: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie No, the problem that we are having is that they want to get married.. But some people think they can use their personal beliefs (religion) to infringe upon the constitutional rights of others.

message 993: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie It has nothing to do with where they choose to get married. It's not either a church or a courthouse, the problem is that these people don't want them to have the right to a marriage AT ALL. If it was only about having a church wedding I would side with the church, but that's not the issue.

The bible also says divorce is NOT okay. Hell is going to be really crowded if all of this is true.

JJ Cherie wrote: "I still need to read the demigod files. Are they good?"

They're pretty much fillers for the series if you need a Percy Jackson fix while waiting for the next book. The stories aren't MUST READ but they are entertaining enough. It includes likable characters in adventures where the world isn't weighing on their shoulders (Of course that doesn't mean their lives aren't at risk). For example one story unifies the friendship between Clarisse and Percy then there was one that includes Silena and Beckendorf and the last one has the three kids from the big three working together. You can find them online.

message 996: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Cherie wrote: "the constitutional rights of others."

What you have to remember is that America =/= the world.

Not because america follows old outdated laws that some dead guys made 200+years ago doesn't mean everyone should, america is influencing too many countries.

In my country sodomy is still illegal(how they found out you did it is puzzling), it is also still illegal in some U.S states if I am correct... anyways I am going off topic, the gay community over here is seeing what is going on in America and they want it for themselves(actually expect it) not realising that this isn't america and what works there doesn't fly everywhere else.

If Mother Russia(I'm not Russian) wants to do what they want to do I don't see why people in America are getting antsy about it. Want it to change? Invade Russia and subject it to your rule.

I'm really getting ticked off when people expect something to happen the same way every where because America does it, not having a go at you, just want people to understand that the American Constitution does not equal World Law and that America is not the World Police.... and please gun nuts don't see me talking about outdated laws and try to use that as an excuse to start talking about the Second Amendment and why people should try and defend it.

message 997: by Ray (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ray Seems like Nico is gay but doesn't want to be and hates himself for it. As if Nico's life wasn't hard enough...

message 998: by Ecra (new)

Ecra Finally read the book and loved it. And I have to say I loved that this piece of info was included about Nico. I have been having discussions about the book with my family (my parents being the ones who bought it for me) and it was just kind of sad to realize that my cousins probably won't be able to read it because their mom, and pretty much all of my aunts, is super religious and against things that deal with homosexuality. But I don't see how exactly it isn't appropriate for young children. I have five-year-old cousins who think it is perfectly acceptable for a girl to like girls and boys liking boys. Anyway it is just sort of disheartening to hear my aunts diss this book and Nico's character because he turns out to be gay. They completely disregard all the info I presented about his character that have nothing to do with this bit of info. While I hear all the people who say that homosexuality is wrong, I can see your viewpoint and your reasoning. But when you make one tiny piece of who a person is the whole base of who they are and disregard everything else about them, how does that put you in the right?
On a different, and somewhat lighter note, I now have a new favorite pairing and need to go write an agnsty, little oneshot about Nico's unrequited love as soon as I post this.

message 999: by [deleted user] (new)

There is NOTHING WRONG with being homosexual or bisexual. All you bigots and homophobes out there, get out.

Michaela I agree with you Brooke. I love the twist that RR put in totally did not see it coming
