I am going to tackle that one next year. Embarrassing that I haven't read it yet, given that I live in Atlanta.

Jonpaul wrote: "Camilla is sitting by my bed, staring at me. It's going to sit its fat ass there a little longer, too."Oh I'm reading that too. It's good so far, I liked Cecilia and Evelina a lot too.
I recently finished Crime and Punishment. At first I didn't really like it but a few days after I finished I was still thinking about it. I definitely see its literary value. Now I'm reading Junk by William Burroughs.... not sure why this is a book I needed to read before I die. I'm not loving it.

Totally awesome book. One of the best ever.

Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. Not so good. She changed the personality of Mr. Rochester of Jane Eyre to make her story more believable.
I finished Silas Marner about a week or two ago. I also read A Sense of an Ending back in October. I enjoyed both of these books.
Lecterclarice wrote: "Just finished Lady Chatterley's Lover. Once I started I just couldn't put it down - I was hooked!"Someone quoted that book to me the other day on a "not-date" and I found it incredibly sexy. Is it as racy as the cover led me to believe?
Mrs Dalloway. I love Woolf's writing style, though this one didn't captivate me as much as The Waves.
Half of a Yellow Sun (audiobook version) - compelling novel about the Nigerian conflict in the late 1960s.

The War of the Worlds. Amazing stuff, as much for the imaginative SciFi as for the insights into how our society and human psyches can unravel so quickly.
Metamorphoses by Ovid (from the original '06 list). Totally worth while. It's like a one-stop-shop for your mythological needs. & enjoyable too, if long. My review with pictures is here!
I recently finished The Color Purple, which was really beautiful, if sometimes a little tough to swallow. It was a fast read! And today I finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. This was wonderfully written, but one of the more bizarre books I've read recently.

we read this for a book club and I kept thinking really? All this over a great sense of smell? It was a bit contrived and unbelievable for me.
Finished another re-read of Gone With The Wind last week. Have read it, I guess, 8 times? I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
I finished Aldous Huxley's 'Eyeless in Gaza' this morning! Although I managed to make it to the end, I was never really entertained and barely interested in the characters or their lives. I think I may prefer Brave New World when I get to it as it's the kind of book I would have picked up on my own.
David wrote: "It took me almost a year, but I finally finished Les Misérables this evening."Congratulations! Thoughts?
Finished The Rugged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Trammel last week. I really enjoyed it. Beautifully written and though I didn't agree with the politics it was amazing how much holds true today

It was so good. I really enjoyed how much of it is just a vast portrait of every aspect of French society over a period of over 20 years. The story is amazing, but that is just a small part of what makes it a wonderful book.
Finished Le Choses by Georges Perec
Didnt like the style my review

I was reluctant to start this book, but I'm reading with a group - the schedule is set for 5 months. But I surprisingly found myself wrapped up in the story immediately and had to stop myself from reading too far ahead of the group. I'm only ~10% in so far.
Les Misérables is amazing. I didn't expect that I'd stick throughout the whole book. It is just unfortunate that the copy I bought is the abridged version of Simon & Schuster Enriched Classics which was erroneously labeled as "Complete and Unabridged"(oh the deception). But nevertheless, it is still a masterpiece to behold. Perhaps I should read it again. And this time, the entire unabridged edition.
I just finished Middlemarch by George Eliot. I thought it would take me months to read, but I was enthralled! Wonderful story, and I highly recommend it!
Finally finished The Monastery by Scott. I liked it quite a lot, but was too distracted by other events to read it in any shorter time. I think it took me three weeks! The Monastery
Absalom, Absalom! by William Faulkner. Pretty amazing, although not an easy read due to the very long sentences (I think there is a sentence with over a thousand words in it). Great story. I liked it so much better than The Sound and the Fury.
