Introduce Yourself to the Group!
Hi everyone! I'm Elisabeth- I'm 27, live in Cincinnati, and love to read. This year I am challenging myself to read 30 books and branch out a little with my book choices.
wishes everyone an A1 St. Pat's day. St. Pat's day is a reoccurring day in the book and sets the real Am-multicultural scene.

Hi everyone. I'm in my 30s and live in OK, USA. I love reading, always have, and have just discovered goodreads groups and challenges. This is the first group I'm participating in and I hope to make some new bookworm friends. I'm a little overwhelmed and not sure where to start, but I did get the group read book for this month from the library so I guess I'll start there.

Thanks, I'll check these out. The book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" Is the book really good? I watched the movie and didn't like it very well.

I like watching movies based on books, characters coming to life and all. But, in my opinion, the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" was horrible. Ha.They skipped so many things from the book. It was disappointing.
The book was way better!

I recently finished King and Maxwell by David Baldacci and Gods of Guilt by Micheal Connelly and am currently reading Sycamore Row by John Grisham. Hello everybody. My name is Dwayne, I am from Hobart, Australia. This is my second year on goodreads and second attempt at the reading challenge. Last year I set myself what was, in hindsight, a ridiculous goal of 50 books; I only managed 30. So this year I have drastically lowered expectations to a more reasonable 20 books. I enjoy reading however, as a cursory glance at my profile will show you, I seldom find the time to pursue this pleasure owing to university studies (I read a lot textbooks and articles though!). I wish you all the best with your goals and, more importantly, hope you enjoy what you are reading :)
Hey, I'm Jade and just recently joined this group.Most of my time these days is spent reading and writing, and I've set my goal of reading 50 books this year, and I'm already ahead on that target! I read a variety of books, due to my English course, on which I also do creative writing.
I enjoy classics, young adult, a bit of chick lit now and then, LGBT and really anything that appeals to me and takes my fancy, I'll give it a go.
I'm looking forward to reading more, and discovering new books, and new authors and to make it through the books that I have ready on my bookshelf for reading this year.

I just joined and thought this group sounded like a lot of fun with so many challenges to try . I'm a lifelong reader and read lots of different types of books but my favorites are probably true crime, memoirs, and history. I'm game for almost anything else as well .

Hi! I'm just starting with this group. I've got my goal set for 50 for the year (I changed it twice already when I saw that I've read nine since January already). I'm from western NYS, so weather has been yuk but perfect for sitting back with a good book.

Welcome to the group Brenna! Hope you succeed in completing your goal for this year. I live in Ohio, so this bipolar weather has had me reading more as well.
bipolar is a good word for the weather you've been getting and what Rochester, NY has been getting. I'm only a little over an hour from Niagara Falls, and it's amazing how when looking, you can't tell that there's actually water flowing underneath all the ice. Here's hoping our summers are not bipolar this year!

Hannah, I saw that you mentioned the UK in your survey - do you want responses only from people living in the UK, or does it matter? I live in the US, and I would be happy to participate if you need, but I don't want to skew your results.

Ever since I was little, i love love looooove to read. I'm about tonfinish my studies so i finally have enough time to chatch up on my casual reading.

Hi, I'm Theresa, 21 and currently finishing my junior year of college. I have been using books to hide from the "real world" since I was in middle school. I love fantasy, vampire/lycan/supernatural, weird science, dystopia, some historical fiction and other random books. I prefer there to be a hint of romance but cant stand constant romance.I was the kid that noone could get to read books, I hated the books we were forced to read in elementary school to learn to read and actually told my teacher that. But once reading became my choice I fell in love. I used to get in trouble at school because I was reading in class.
I prefer to read e books to paper copies and will constantly have at least one book on my phone I have yet to read. Would love to get to know other members, feel free to message me.

Hey everyone! My name is Katie, I'm 25, currently taking a break from college and working in retail because I cant decide what to do with myself, college is stupid expensive, and I have some health issues that make living on campus and taking a full load of classes nearly impossible. I'm currently in mourning due to the fact that the bookstore I spent so much time and money at during my tweens and teens is closing! I used to be an avid reader in my tweens and teens, mostly because I used books as an escape. I havent been reading as much in the past few years and I really want to get back into it but its been difficult. My favorite genres used to be historical fiction and fantasy but lately I've noticed myself getting more into nonfiction.

Hello! I'm Gavin, love reading. I'm your typical grown up who hated reading as a child only years later realizing the error of my ways and how wonderful books are. The books I did actually read as a child were fantasy (Dragonlance series, some Forgotten Realms etc). As a young adult I was all about religion and spirituality. Then came science and history. I rarely read any fiction, just spoiling myself with non fiction, information about any number of topics. It has only been recently that I took to fiction outside of Fantasy or SiFi.
Currently I'm reading Cockroach by Rawi Hage
There's a couple of reason why I started reading, "Realistic" fiction I guess they call it, one is to get away from real life. As I've said I mostly read non-fiction and I think my brain was about to explode so I needed to step away from reality. The other reason I'm reading fiction (especially POV) is I'm throwing my hat in the ring and attempting to write my first book (realistic fiction) that I've always wanted to write (Thanks to Ken Robinson "Finding Your Element"). I'm roughly a quarter the way through my first draft. What a wonderful and exciting experience it's been so far.
Anyway can't wait to participate and interact with this group.

I'm Mia and I just turned 20. I enjoy painting (especially my bedroom walls/ floor/ ceiling) and really cheesy TV shows (Bow-ties and Fezes for days)I have been in love with books since I read Corazon by Edmundo d'Amicis in 4th grade. I have read a lot of YA (as is the trend now a days). On the other hand I also read a lot of classics (trying to soak up all that wisdom). My favorite book in the whole wide world is "The Song of Achilles" (read it and the world will never be the same).
I'm tired of running across the same tittles again and again so I am hoping that I'll run into some new books here.

I work as a consultant, which means that depending on my client/ assignment I have more or less time to read.
I read most of my books in English, but sometimes also in Dutch (whether it was originally written in Dutch or a translation).
My favourite genre (for the moment) is historical fiction. I used to like reading a lot of Danielle Steel/ Judith Krantz books, but am over that a bit. In the end, almost every Danielle Steel book is the same, lol!
I do enjoy a good thriller every once in a while (just finished Dan Brown's Inferno 2 days ago).
Last week, I started reading "smut books" (lol) (got the kindle app on my laptop and thinking of buying a Kindle in order to read them) and they are my new guilty pleasure :-)
After reading a "heavier" historical book, it's nice to enjoy a quick/ hot read!
My challenge for 2014 is 20 books. Depending on how big/ easy the books I choose, are, I might even reach that goal.
Hi Sandra,Welcome to our group, There are a lot of fun challenges that will help you hit your goal of 20 books. I have a kindle HDX and I really like it! I like it that you can look up the words as you are reading just by holding your finger in the word and that kindle well read the book to you as well.. would be really good for learning a second language like English.
