Taking a short break from Hamilton to participate in the S & L read Boneshaker

You've gotta try Perdido Street Station and all the other Bas-Lag books. They are fantastic!

Personally I think 2-4 are much better than 5-7, but I wasn't unhappy with the last 3 books, for me it's:
1) Wizard and ..."
Rob, the overall quality of the books is so high that trying to rank them seems a bit superfluous anyway..but I agree with your ranking ..up until putting Wizard & Glass at the top spot :-) The book that really sucked me in was the drawing of the three ...So switch your 1 & 3 and we're in agreement...
I think there was a fall off in quality starting with wolves, but maybe it just because I loved wizard and glass so much and I had been waiting so long that anything was going to feel like a drop off.

I finished listening to Doctor Sleep yesterday. It was decent, but not spectacular. You can read my full review if you're so inclined.
I've now returned to finish listenting to the Riyria Revelations with the final omnibus: Heir of Novron.

It being very serious hard SF about present day (though it was written as so near-future SF that it's now actually alternate history) space exploration, I don't expect it to be a rip-roaring action packed adventure. I may put it on hold until I've delved into Boneshaker.

I wasn't sure if you picked the Bova or the Baxter. I see you made the better choice!

Another good choice would have been Titan by John Varley.

Now reading Boneshaker and The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944.
Next up: Nightmare in Pink and The Lies of Locke Lamora.

I plan to then read Embassytown and Equal Rites

Good to know!
Just started Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing.
I do enjoy writing guides, once in a while. Stephen King, who I do not enjoy, wrote one of the best, On Writing. Robert Lewis Stevenson wrote one I didn’t even finish, Essays on the Art of Writing. Even though I enjoy his stories. Any suggestions for guides by speculative fiction authors?

Just started V for Vendetta the graphic novel - this may take me a while since I'm reading on my computer and I don't much like read..."
I heard that the audible audio version of vendetta is just phenomenal! So if the computer slows you down...

Now reading Ubik and The Agony and the Ecstasy.
Embassytown is next.

Finished up Boneshaker, and enjoyed it more than I expected (My Review).
I will hopefully be starting The Republic of Thieves tonight with my Side Reads group assuming my copy shows up early enough.

And everyone talking about the Dark Tower series has me sorely tempted to abandon everything else and restart it. I only made it through The Gunslinger and then life (aka newborn baby) got in the way.

I think it might be more of the fact that The Gunslinger is the one book that King has written and will ever write that is completely different in the style and pace, but I could be wrong.

Boneshaker - for S&L (first in a while that I'm having trouble getting up for)
The Republic of Thieves
The Winter of Frankie Machine

Your first!? You've been missing out. I really enjoyed Joyland though, and it's short, so not a bad choice.

Started a most look forward to addition to Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories The Pagan Lord - also on Audible

Think Ocean's eleven in SW.

Yeah, its a good one. But certainly not indicative of King's overall bibliography

I also have Boneshaker and Steelheart on Kindle and audio...I've been slacking on starting either, though.

Yup, my first! I've wanted to read King for a long time but it just never happened. Last month I had The Stand out on eloan, but I didn't have time to read it in only 14 days. I really want to read that and The Gunslinger.

Those are the two I'd recommend. Though a lot of people don't like Dark Tower until they read The Drawing of the Three

I really love his early stuff The Shining and Salem's Lot being my favorite followed closely by The Stand. I liked Joyland but only after I gave up trying to figue out if it was horror or crime and just looked at it as a coming of age story.

Now to start Ender's Game. And then one of my unread Stephen King books. Either Thinner or Pet Sematary

Oh I've heard great stuff too. I Think I'm going to read Shadow and Bone first and then go for that series

I've been listening to All Will Prosper by Goldmund when reading Boneshaker. Its civil warish style background music and pretty mellow.
Read Memories of Ice, which was amazing.
And my work time audiobook listening has included Dust, American Gods, Steelheart (one of my favorites of Sanderson's), and Kill Decision.
Up next will be White Night and Parasite on kindle, and Use of Weapons on audible.
