Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2657 comments Hi Ashley,
Here are my recommendations for you. Happy Reading!

SWEET & GOOEY:
Chocolate Truffles (Wealthy/Spoiled Brats):

TBR: Fallen Too Far. I enjoyed this one and it was angsty.
New: Night Road. One of my favorite books, well written and real.

Ice Cream (Favorite author/series):
TBR: Mine Till Midnight. LK is one of my favorite authors and this was a great beginning to the series.
New: The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden. Great book, great book. Emotional and angsty.

Jellybeans (GLBT):
TBR: Lover At Last. This one was long overdue. I liked it and you should go ahead and see what's up with Qhuinn & Blay.
New: Cut & Run. A new discovery for me and I enjoyed it because it wasn't graphic and overly sexual. It was just a good story. Good for a newbie to the m-m genre.

SALTY & CRUNCHY:
Potato Chips (Old & New):
TBR (next in series you like): Never Love a Highlander. you seem to like this series so go ahead and finish it up. Rhiannon's story was really good. Probably the best.
New (1st in series new to you): Enclave. This is a YA dystopian that was well done. You like Divergent, so you will probably like this one too.

Pretzels (Mystery/Suspense):
TBR: Extreme Exposure. This one was very enjoyable. It had love and mystery. Well written.
New: Six Years. I haven't read this one yet as it is a buddy read for me next month. It just looks good though.

Mixed Nuts (Flashback POV):
TBR: Hopeless. *Sigh*. Colleen Hoover is in the business of tugging at your heart strings. You already experienced her with Slammed, so you know what's up already.
New: Sins & Needles. This one was gritty for me. I didn't love it, but I was intrigued enough that I will read book 2. If you like stories with damaged characters, this one will fit that bill for you.

COMBINATION:
Trail Mix (Shifters):
TBR: How to Drive a Dragon Crazy. You don't love this series, but you liked it enough to read up to here, so give this one a chance.
New: Full Moon Rising. I am reading book 4 right now. I liked this book and enjoy that Riley seems to accept herself and her shifter necessities. It bothers people, but I like heroines who say "this is who I am, take it or leave it."

Bacon Sundae (Outside your norm/comfort):
TBR (BDSM romance): The Dom's Dungeon. I haven't read this series. I read her Masters of Mountain series and loved it. Cherise Sinclair does love and bondage better than anyone. Try her out.
New (M/M romance): Promises. This was a sweet but short m-m book. It's outside your comfort zone but if you want to stretch yourself, I encourage you to try this one.

Fallen Too Far (Too Far, #1; Rosemary Beach, #1) by Abbi Glines Night Road by Kristin Hannah Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) by Jessica Sorensen Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) by J.R. Potato Chips (betcha can’t eat just one!) – Book of Shadows (totally nice series I simply couldn't put down :)!)
PretzelsTrust Me? (Hopefully a confusing mystery and a misunderstood character)

Book of Shadows (Sweep, #1) by Cate Tiernan Trust Me? (The Trust Me Trilogy, #1) by K.E. Osborn Lash (Broken Angel, #1) by L.G. Castillo

Trail MixGirl Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie (Probably taking place outside and having Zombies, who are similar to shifters/animals)
Bacon Sundae (don't knock it until you've tried it...) - The Last Wish ( I recommend this since you liked "The Dresden Files". I wouldn't count it as out of comfort zone, but as different from the stuff you usually read. Just as a hint for you: Since the second book doesn't exist in english(only fan translated) but it's not important, you'd simply have to continue with Blood of Elves)
Girl Z My Life as a Teenage Zombie by Christine Verstraete The Last Wish (The Witcher) by Andrzej Sapkowski

I hope you enjoy reading :)!

Thanks for the great picks. I've COMPLETELY overloaded myself with challenges this month, so I'm going to take Kamikaze Boys so I can double it up! Thanks again!

thank you so much for the picks, MountainKat. i have to admit that i was nervous about someone picking books for me (and about picking books for someone else... THE PRESSURE!!).
the good news, for me, is that i already own most of the books that you had listed, which means i can go easier on the cc this month. it's been really hard deciding what to read, but i think i've narrowed it down to 8 or 9.
i'm game for a buddy read on either, or both, The Door Into Spring, Life in Fusion.
other than that, i think that i'll read:
Wallbanger by Alice Clayton No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey The Locker Room by Amy Lane Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning On Dublin Street (On Dublin Street, #1) by Samantha Young

OMG Zara, what are you trying to do to me? LOL. All these books look soooo good. I can't even decide where to go...Man, oh man!

I think I will start with Edenbrooke (A Proper Romance) by Julianne Donaldson .
But I'm also interested in Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah Some Like It Wicked (Kincaid Highlander, #1) by Teresa Medeiros Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning, #1) by Ellen Connor ...I need to stop because I think I am interested in just about all of them

message 165: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Hi Skandia Here are your picks. I hope I found something you would like to read. We have a lot in common but you also had a lot I didn't recognize. If you want me to pick again, let me know. The first book is from your shelf and the second book is from my shelf, though there may be some overlap.

Sweet and Gooey:
Chocolate Truffles – The Ghost Bride and Sugar Daddy
These both have wealthy and spoiled characters. The first is one that was recommended to me and I started but haven't finished. And the second is a great book by Lisa Kleypas.
The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo Sugar Daddy (Travises, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

Ice Cream – Eleven on Top and Simply Irresistible
The first one is obviously a favorite author of yours and this is the next one to read and the second book is a favorite go-to author for me.
Eleven on Top (Stephanie Plum, #11) by Janet Evanovich Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis

Jellybeans – East of the Sun and After the Night
I picked both of these for their covers. I loved the cover on the first. And the second one is bright and I loved the story.
East of the Sun by Julia Gregson After the Night by Linda Howard

Salty and Crunchy:
Potato Chips Moonglow and The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie
The first is the next book in a series you started and I loved it. Keep going! And the second is a book that I try to recommend to everyone. It has the most wonderful, unique hero.
Moonglow (Darkest London, #2) by Kristen Callihan The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley

Pretzels – Nearly Departed in Deadwood and Naked in Death
The first definitely has a confusing plot, a mystery and a misunderstood character. It's a fun book! And the second is a great mystery/detective series to start. I'm definitely hooked.
Nearly Departed in Deadwood (Deadwood Mystery, #1) by Ann Charles Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb
Mixed Nuts – Charming the Highlander and The Rose Garden
The first one is a the start to a fun, light time travel series and it has Highlanders. What could be better. And the second is a book by one of my favorite authors. This is my favorite!
Charming the Highlander (Highlander, #1) by Janet Chapman The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley

Combination:
Trail Mix – Into the Wilderness and Tempting Danger
The first one is such a beautiful story and it's set in the Wilderness of N. America and the second is my favorite shifter series. Love it!
Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks

Bacon Sundae The Girl in the Steel Corset and Daughter of the Blood
You don't seem to read a lot of Steam Punk, and this is a pretty good intro into the genre. It's YA as well, but not too obnoxious. And the second is Dark Fantasy. I was recommended this book awhile ago on a PIFM and I loved it. It was out of my comfort zone as well at the time.
The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop

Lol! Everything looks great, though of course if you want to change things up I'm ok with that too. There's a bunch of books on there I'm really looking forward to reading! I know my shelves lean heavily MM at the moment, but that's only because that's what I've been reading more recently/what's on my kindle and I haven't had a chance to imput all the paperbacks I own. That 1000+ books are all MF so I'm looking forward to the couple of MF books you threw in there. :D

Okay since you don't even have any MM on your shelf, I am going to reach back into my history for some of your picks. I have read and enjoyed all but one of these at some point (the one exception being noted).

Sweet and Gooey:
Chocolate Truffles – Sugar Daddy - definite wealth going on there, but a good series... and book 4 will be out soon! Plus it takes place in my town. Just know that it take a LOT longer to get from Houston to Dallas than this series implies ;)
Ice Cream – The Dream Hunter No idea, but you seem to like her
Jellybeans – 500 Miles You know I am going to go for an LGBT title here. This one is short and sweet.

Salty and Crunchy:
Potato Chips - The Perfect Play Hot football star, hotter cover ;)
Pretzels – Catching Fire Love this series.
Mixed Nuts – Red Blooded okay this is a little bit of a cheat. It is in paper back, but the stories it consists of are available in ebook ;) But come on... HOT men in uniform!

Combination:
Trail Mix – Blaze of Glory Love this story, lots of it is outdoors
Bacon Sundae - Life Lessons You know I am going to go for an M/M Romance title here ;) One of my all-time favorite series!

I know a few of these are out of your comfort zone, but hey you never know unless you try ;)

Sugar Daddy (Travises, #1) by Lisa Kleypas The Dream Hunter (Dream-Hunter, #1; Dark-Hunter, #11) by Sherrilyn Kenyon 500 Miles (An MLR Mixed Tape) by Parker Williams The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins Red Blooded by Cat Johnson Blaze of Glory by M. Garzon Life Lessons (Life Lessons, #1) by Kaje Harper

René (bookgeek4life) | 34 comments Thanks for the great picks Lacy!!! I have a tendency to "collect" books I want to read (but can't possibly have enough time to get to), sorry if that made it harder for you!
I really would love to read them all. So I'm going to start with The Secret (Highlands' Lairds #1) by Julie Garwood and Easy by Tammara Webber .

message 174: by Shelby (last edited Sep 24, 2013 10:53AM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Hey Erin,

So I tried to give you a mix of mm and mf since it looks like you read both. Also I hope I got enough of your TBR books in there. I think it's was pretty even, but I think I have one more new suggestion than TBR. Sorry. Anyway, I hope you find something on here that catches your interest. I know I really enjoyed a bunch of these books.

Sweet and Gooey

Chocolate Truffles
The Student Prince (new) - Ok so the this was the very first book that jumped to mind for you since your profile says you like Arthurian Legends...I was bound and determined to find a category for this. It's SOOOOO good! One of my favorites.
Shanna (new) - This is one of my all time favorite historical romances. I figure it covers everything in this category, spoiled rich girl and exotic locals. :D

Ice Cream
Night Game (new) - Looks like you've enjoyed a lot of Christine Feehan, most might not agree, but this is my favorite of her series. It looked like you'd read the first two and liked them, so I went with book 3.
Finding Farro (TBR)

Jelly Beans
Zero at the Bone (TBR) - Since you liked Cut & Run and it's brilliant.
My Fair Captain (TBR) - So adore this series.

The Student Prince by FayJay Shanna by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss Night Game (GhostWalkers, #3) by Christine Feehan Finding Farro (Moon Pack, #6) by Amber Kell Zero at the Bone (Zero at the Bone, #1) by Jane Seville My Fair Captain (Sci-Regency #1) by J.L. Langley

Salty and Crunchy

Potato Chips
A Marked Man (new) - I know it says shifter, but unfortunately you have to wait till book 3 to get them. Still one of my favorite series.
Retribution (TBR) - Not my absolute favorite of her books, but well worth the read. Plus I'm a stickler for reading in order, which in her case tends to be published order. :-p

Pretzels
Disasterology 101 (new) - I may be going out on a limb with this one, but I just read it and adored it. Heartbreakingly lovely!
The Unsung Hero (new) - It's been awhile since I've read this, but I think there's a bit of mystery involved. Plus the series is a lot of fun.

Mixed Nuts
Never After (new) - Tried to find something that wasn't a mix of shorts from other series.
Hex Appeal (TBR)

A Marked Man (Assassin/Shifter, #1) by Sandrine Gasq-Dion Retribution (Dark-Hunter, #20; Were-Hunter, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Disasterology 101 by Taylor V. Donovan The Unsung Hero (Troubleshooters, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann Never After by Laurell K. Hamilton Hex Appeal (Phoenix Chronicles; The Shadowfae Chronicles, #4.5; Kate Daniels, #5.6; The Dresden Files, #11.9) by P.N. Elrod

Combination

Trailmix
Primal Passions (TBR) - I love this series.
Timothy (TBR)

Bacon Sundae
Nightkeepers (new) - New to you author, and a very different take on magic/history. Mayan culture. Really good.
Gravitational Attraction (new) - You didn't seem to have a lot of sci-fi on your shelves and this book is just plain brilliant.

Primal Passions (Lost Shifters, #1) by Stephani Hecht Timothy (Leopard's Spots, #3) by Bailey Bradford Nightkeepers (Nightkeepers, #1) by Jessica Andersen Gravitational Attraction by Angel Martinez

Thanks Amy :) Actually picking up Specials again sounds like a great idea (I kind of forgot even though I loved the series up until now), but Lost in Austen sounds fun too! (I never read an Austen novel though)

the good news, for me, is that i already own most of the books that you had listed, which means i can go easier on the cc this month. it's been really hard deciding what to read, but i think i've narrowed it down to 8 or 9."

You are ambitious!! And the ones you picked were all really good for me so I hope you like them too! I am game for both buddy reads, especially since one is so short. Just let me know when is good for you!

message 182: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Victoria I enjoyed looking through your shelves. You have 150 books on your read shelves, 121 of which were dated this year, so I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of your reading history is not on your shelves. If I recommend something you've already read and wish a new suggestion, just let me know.

Sweet and Gooey:
Chocolate Truffles

Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck -- from your PIFM shelf
Ice Cream
Tie Me by Olivia Cunning -- You've given high marks to most of her books
Jellybeans – a bright, colorful cover
Pies and Prejudice by Ellery Adams -- I've really enjoyed the first two books in this paranormal mystery series.

Salty and Crunchy:
Potato Chips

Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch -- First book in one of my favorite series. Kitty is funny & snarky and I love the secondary characters just as much.
Pretzels
The Negotiator by Dee Henderson -- The O'Malley series is an old favorite and you could actually start with a prequel book Danger in the Shadows. Either book is wonderful.
Mixed Nuts
Touch the Dark by Karen Chance -- Vampires, ghosts and time travel. The first in a wonderful Urban Fantasy series.

Combination:
Trail Mix

Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley -- With motorcycles, I'm pretty sure it takes place outdoors. I've not read any of Ashley's book yet, but I know they're pretty popular.
Naked Dragon by Annette Blair -- Dragon shifter. I had to add this to my own book shelves.
Bacon Sundae
You have a good variety on your shelves, but I tried to come up with something a little different.
The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook -- I'm currently reading the second book in this Steampunk series and loving it.
Working Stiff by Rachel Caine -- Caine has a unique take on zombies and I really enjoyed the first book in this series.

Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck Tie Me (One Night with Sole Regret, #5) by Olivia Cunning Pies and Prejudice (A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery #1) by Ellery Adams Touched by an Alien (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #1) by Gini Koch The Negotiator (O'Malley, #1) by Dee Henderson Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance Own the Wind (Chaos, #1) by Kristen Ashley Naked Dragon (Works Like Magick, #1) by Annette Blair The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Working Stiff (Revivalist, #1) by Rachel Caine

Jessica (cosytomelibrary) Hi Penney Okay I'm just going to choose one book from each 'mini category' for you:

Chocolate truffles:
The Princess and the Barbarian by Betina Krahn (on your TBR)
The Billionaire Next Door by J.S. Scott (not on your TBR but a guess from other books you've read)

Ice cream:
Blood Brothers (Sign of Seven #1) by Nora Roberts (based on books you've read by her, on your TBR)
Labyrinth by Kate Mosse (One of my comfort reads)

Jellybeans:
Kiss and Tell (Sunrise Key Trilogy #1) by Suzanne Brockmann (on your TBR and I think that fits 'bright colourful cover?)
The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles #1) by Rick Riordan (not sure if this fits colourful but it's kinda bright)

Potato chips:>
Providence by Jamie McGuire (one of my ultimate fav books! 1st book in the trilogy.)
The Treasure Keeper (Drakon #4) by Shana Abe (on your TBR carrying on the series..)

Pretzels:

No Mercy (A Mercy Gunderson Mystery, #1) by Lori G. Armstrong. (seems like mystery to me, on your TBR)
The Sound by Sarah Alderson (a YA book but still a crime mystery and I've been told good things about this book!)

Mixed Nuts:
Angels of Darkness (Guild Hunter #3.5)
by Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Meljean Brook & Sharon Shinn (on your TBR anthology)
Every Day (Every Day #1) by David Levithan (Not exactly time travel more like body travel...)

Trail mix:/b>
Touching the void by Joe Simpson (You've probably heard of the book, all outdoors)
Cloning Pets by Sean Stewart Price (all about animals!)

Bacon Sundae:
Right of way by Lauren Barnholdt (you haven't read many roadtrip books? This might be nice)
Come Undone (Rock Hard #1) by Madelynne Ellis (yes it's romance but the reason I chose it was because under genres it's also classed as music)

I hope you enjoy some of the picks I've made for you!

I've been really lazy and haven't gone back and posted my entire reading history, simply because I wind up re-reading so much of them! I actually have a good number of these, Daffodil, so I'll try to get to reading them this month. The Rachel Caine book is one I hadn't heard of, but I remember reading her Djinn series a long time ago and enjoyed most of it. I've actually been eying The Negotiator, so I forsee a trip to the library or Amazon.com in my future! Thanks for all the great picks!

Edited to add: I'm such a dunce! I totally forgot to say exactly what I am reading from Daffodil's picks! Since I often find myself with large blocks of time on my hands, I am going to commit to reading almost all of her picks for me! However, after reading the synopsis for The Iron Duke, I find that it doesn't really interest me, so I'm going to swap it out for her second suggestion in Pretzels-I'll read Danger in the Shadows instead. Daffodil really outdid herself on my picks! She came up with some stories and authors I had never heard of, and added in a few that I had heard about or had read a really long time ago! I can't wait to get started!

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments Thank you, Elizabeth! These look great! My library has Hard and Fast, so I'm going to give that a shot. And I've heard good things about Sarah Waters for a while now, so I think I'll try Fingersmith, too.

If you like the Chicago Stars series, you should give the Kowalski series a try. I wouldn't have thought of comparing the two, but they do have some similarities- a little bit funny, a little bit serious, characters you get really attached to who pop up in future books.....

Thanks for the awesome picks Shelby! I definitely want to try The Student Prince by FayJay . I haven't read anything Arthurian in a while, so that sounds like fun. Hopefully I'll get to a couple more as well, since there are a lot on the list I want to read. Thanks again!

message 193: by Becky (last edited Sep 24, 2013 03:40PM) (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments Hi Joyce! I have some picks for you. Hope you enjoy them!

Chocolate Truffles – a wealthy character Omens (Cainsville, #1) by Kelley Armstrong New, but I think it fits with the kinds of books you like, and I really enjoyed it.

Ice Cream – Recommend a book by an author that is a favorite of your pickee Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris This was on your "want to read soon list", and it looks like you've enjoyed the rest of the series so far, so I hope you'll like this one, too!

Jellybeans – Recommend an LGBT themed book. Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale New. It doesn't look like you read m/m, but this one otherwise fits with your reading tastes. Steampunk, supernatural, mysteries. And there's no graphic sex, so maybe a good way to dip your toe in LGBT romances.

Potato Chips – Recommend the first book in a series that you like but your pickee has never read. Tempest Rising (Jane True, #1) by Nicole Peeler I found this on your TBR shelf. A fun series, and one I think you'll like.

Pretzels – Recommend a book with a character who is misunderstood. Cordelia's Honor (Vorkosigan Omnibus, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold Found this on your TBR shelf, too. I love, love, love the Vorkosigan series, and Aral is definitely misunderstood by the universe.

Mixed Nuts – Recommend a book with multiple storylines. The City's Son (The Skyscraper Throne, #1) by Tom Pollock New. This one puts the "urban" in Urban Fantasy.

Trail Mix – Recommend a book that includes shifters in the storyline. Blood Trail (Victoria Nelson, #2) by Tanya Huff Found this on your "want to read soon" shelf, too. It's been years since I read this, but I remember it being pretty good.

Bacon Sundae - Recommend a book that is outside of your pickee's comfort zone, or a genre that they rarely read. Among the Living (PsyCop, #1) by Jordan Castillo Price New. This is the first book in a series that should be right up your alley- supernatural cops. But it's m/m, and it's HOT. The first few books are a little on the short side for those who are used to mainstream Urban Fantasy. But the most recent 2-3 books are quite a bit longer, and have some nice, meaty action. (No pun intended.)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 280 comments Thanks Brandilyn,
I am actually currently re-reading Dream hunter, it may take me into October to get through it. I was hoping to get to Sugar Daddy this week, but it will probably be October too. I feel I really should start Catching Fire in October so I will get to it.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 280 comments My picks for Zara.

Ok, please let me know if you want me to re-pick something. Of 3000+ books we only had 56 in common, so I guessed a lot.

Sweet and Gooey:
Chocolate Truffles – How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks one of my favs with a rich guy.

Ice Cream – Once upon a Summer (Seasons of the Heart, #1) by Janette Oke by your most read author

Jellybeans – One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich colorful cover

Salty and Crunchy:
Potato Chips – The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2) by Julia Quinn you liked the first one, you must continue on with this awesome series.

Pretzels – Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger fun book with lots of twists

Mixed Nuts – Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue good time travel book

Combination:
Trail Mix – How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper outside, shifters and supper funny.

Bacon Sundae - The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston Paranormal looks outside your comfort zone, I've already suggested a few mild ones, so here is paranormal and smutty.

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) This is my first time doing this challenge, so for educational purposes, I've been reading last month's thread, and now I've got a question. I noticed that some of the ladies were volunteering to help with repicks. I assume that means that they actually picked for two different ladies, because the first partner assigned to them never picked books for them?

I already have my picks, and have picked for my partner as well (here's hoping I did a good job and she likes them!), but if that's the case (where we can pick for an "abandoned soul" by helping with the repicks), I would be happy to volunteer to help out!
