What are you reading? (Part 1)
Sorry for the double post. My computer seems to get hung up on this site and keep cranking away on send.

I finished reading 'The Sharing Knife: Legacy' by Lois McMaster Bujold and was going to start on 'Summer Knight' by Jim Butcher. However, 'The Sharing Knife: Passage' is staring me in the face and I do want to see what happens to Dag and Fawn.
Just finished Undead and Unworthy. I finally found the one Nightside book my library carries, so I'll be reading Hex and the City. After that, I need to finish up some trashy romance novels that are calling my name.
Anne, have you read the Nightside books that come before that? He does a pretty good job of recapping the necessary tidbits, but if you haven't read the previous books and get confused, feel free to ask!

I hope you like the Nightside books. I love John Taylor's adventures with Susie Shotgun, Deadboy and the rest!
I'm currently finishing up a mystery, Spin a Wicked Web and am also reading another mystery, The Treacherous Teddy. Will be starting Unbound this evening. Blood Promise came today, but I think I'll save it for vacation.
I love that title, The Treacherous Teddy!I thought Undead and Unwelcome was okay-ish. I think she needs to really get into this new arc for it to be good again. The next one sounds more promising.
But I did like Marc being in the latest, with his unintelligible emails.
Is Undead and Unwelcome the newest release? I haven't read it yet. I'm just not feeling this series anymore. The new covers completely suck IMHO and I hasn't made me want to go out and get them.
I dislike the new covers too! They now look like any other book in the genre. The older ones were unique and fun.Undead and Unwelcome was this year's release, yes.
That's the hilarious part too! MJD's publisher changed the novel covers because they thought they were blending in with all the other novels out there. Now they look like crappy photoshop pictures of Barbie. They're no longer fun and the covers show that.
Michelle M. wrote: "I dislike the new covers too! They now look like any other book in the genre. The older ones were unique and fun.Undead and Unwelcome was this year's release, yes."
Yes, it's this year's release. And I hate the new covers, too.

I hope I can understand what is going on! I may have to take you up on your offer.

Tell me they don't get worse? I agree with everyone about the new covers. Ewww. What was wrong with the old covers?
Michelle M. wrote: "I was very angry about that ending!"Yeah, it was pretty unexpected! I really wanted to learn more about both of them.
Boo! Bad move, MJD!
Jessica wrote: "Just Finished Hunting Ground. Very good!Going to start up City of Bones next."
I really liked the Mortal Instruments trilogy!
Loved the Mortal Instruments! A new book is coming in 2011 too!!!!I have been reading the Morganville Vampire Series (it's YA). I'm on
and I LOVE it. The whole series so far is great. I highly recommend it.
The Morganville Vamps is one of my VERY favorite series! Am really looking forward to FADE OUT in November!
Reading Odd Thomas (still) and Gil's All Fright Diner (funny). I have about six books coming my way from the library so I won't finish Odd anytime soon since I own that one.
Melodie wrote: "The Morganville Vamps is one of my VERY favorite series! Am really looking forward to FADE OUT in November!"Awesome, not too much of a wait for me! I haven't been able to find anything about new books or how many are planned in the series. I don't want to spoil myself either so I haven't done a thorough search.
Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards, but wanted to jump in. I'm currently reading the 4th book in the Vampire Academy series called Blood Promise by Richelle Mead. Even though these are YA books, they are amazing. I am totally enraptured by the characters. I feel so horrible for Rose. Has anyone else read any of these books?

It is my favorite in the series by far.
And welcome! *WAVES*
Just finished Hex and the City. LOVED it. I hope I can find some more of the Nightside books at my library! I'm going to start Shiver, by Maggie Steifvater. Haven't heard much about it, so I don't know what to expect. Has anyone else read it yet?
Anne wrote: "Just finished Hex and the City. LOVED it. I hope I can find some more of the Nightside books at my library! I'm going to start Shiver, by Maggie Steifvater. I hope your library has more too!
Not sure when I posted last but I finally finished Embrace the Night by Karen Chance.....I am currently reading Lover Enshrined by JR Ward.
Anne, I read Shiver and liked it. I think I gave it 4 or 5 stars... it was a 4-1/2 star read for me. The best review of it (as far as matching what I thought, but putting it much more eloquently) is here.Have you read Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception by Shiver's author, Maggie Stiefvater?
---
I'm currently reading Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr. I had a slew of books come available at my library that I had requested so I'm working my way through the stack before starting Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs.

I have the first 2 in his series with Eddie Drood, the have titles that are take-offs on James Bond movies, but haven't read either of them yet.
I'm on the 2nd book in the Mortal Instruments series. I'm loving it also!Carrie wrote: "Loved the Mortal Instruments! A new book is coming in 2011 too!!!!..."
Thanks Theresa! I liked the review. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through, but so far I like it.Melodie, I think my library may have one or two more of his books. I'm going to have to track them down!
Zhye wrote: "Cureently reading Ghost Ocean by S.M. Peters
I found it at the library and grabbed it for the cover. It's really odd, but in a good way."This is at the top of my reading list. I am finishing Urban Shaman and have Greenmantle by De Lint sitting on my table...
Jessica wrote: "I read both the short story & Cry Wolf. And I agree they aren't AS good as the Mercy series, but I enjoyed them a lot and plan to read any future installments."When P. Briggs aludes to Charles running off to Chicago and 'dealing' with the problem, my mind became curious. That curiosity was satisfied by the short story and I was so HAPPY to have read it, but wished I got to it before Cry Wolf. I think the Were rules about kids/conception are annoying, but that's my only complaint. (Same problem I have with Sookie Stackhouse, too.) dammit, i want babies, or potential babies!!
Looloo wrote: "I just started Ilona Andrew's Magic series. I thought it was a little hard to get into the first 50 pages of Magic Bites but I'm enjoying it now."Just finished this one-- Very clever. Interesting twists on the same-old, same-old that can get tedious in these series... Vamps, the application of magic, etc. What did you think?
Michelle M. wrote: "Hey, Laura. How are you liking Urban Shaman? I have a crush on Gary." I'm afraid... I'm in love with Morrison. He's so.. cynical and sort of mean, but then he says something and it makes you do a double take-- WHAT?! Morrison cares? The author is def. pushing us to put 'kiss' & 'morrison' in the same arena... I think it's funny, but at the same time, joanne has toooo many walls pulled up around her, a little arrogance and defiance that i like, but will keep the character from getting a perfect happy ending. GARY, well, Gary is a little too knowledgeable sometimes, him talking about knocking his wife up, but they really don't have kids is a sign that he's a little tricky- good, but able to spin a lie... so there's more to Gary, but its a very sheltered secret at this point.
Tell me-- why would he stick around? And I know, he says, "And miss what's gonna happen next?" But that's not good enough, esp. when people are dying 12 hours after they meet them!!
Michelle, how far are you through the other books? I'm surprised that Gary keeps going...
I am reading Blood Promise by Rachelle Mead. loving this series!
finally finished Gil's All Fright Diner and now reading Uglies. Hopefully I'll have On the Prowl soon because I already have Cry Wolf and would like to read them back to back. :)
I'm on This Witch for Hire, a 2-in-1 of the first 2 books of Kim Harrisons, and I'm also reading The Mage's Daughter by Lynn Kurland. I'm not usually into romance books, but my mom kept recommending it to me and so I thought I would try it. It is really good. The first book was mostly fantasy with romance subplot but this one has more romance it it.
Elvia, I loved Gil's All Fright Diner. In the Company of Ogres by Martinez was also good.Laura, I've read the three that are out as of now. She has the 4th coming out next month I believe. It's only in the third book that she starts to accept her role. And yes, Gary is still around! I think he sticks with her partly because he's a bit lonely, partly because SHE'S a bit lonely, and mostly because he's lived a good life and knows that you can't let excitement and wonder pass you by because of a little thing like fear. As you learn more about him, you realize he's a very take the bull by the horns kind of guy and has never been one to shy away from danger.
I like Morrison too!

In the original folk tales about the sidhe, they didn't care about humans so they were often cruel. Contemporary novels may be going back to the original tales from the time before fairy stories were for children.
