Leslie, I had a very hard time with it. It drove me nuts, but it doesn't matter b/c now I know this author is definitely NOT for me.

Leslie | 16369 comments I finished Malone Dies - I listened to the audiobook narrated marvellously by Sean Barrett while I skimmed the text on my Kindle. I find that Beckett's novels seem pointless to me until I get close to the end, when I begin to see a story "behind" the story (so to speak). Even when I can't see the purpose, the prose (especially when heard in Barrett's Irish accent) carries me along. Do I recommend it? Only if you like stream-of-consciousness style, existentialism or 'theater-of-the-absurd' literature!

Chrissie I completed The Garden of the Gods. It is the last of Gerald Durrell's Corfu series. Do not mix up this author with his brother, Lawrence Durrell. Their writing could not be more different.

I highly recommend the entire series. You should start at the beginning.

PattyMacDotComma LOVED To The Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey, whose first book, The Snow Child, made the short list for the Pulitzer Prize. I haven't read it yet, but after having read this, I sure will!

This one is a solid 5★ and it has a gorgeous cover.

Chrissie If you are interested in birds and don't mind an academic approach, you ought to like One Wild Bird at a Time: Portraits of Individual Lives.

Alice Mc I just finished The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry - thought it was really interesting and engaging read! Psychopathy absolutely fascinates (and terrifies) me...

Chrissie Well, I give up on Lancaster and York: The Wars of the Roses by Alison Weir.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I have read the author's non-fiction book The Life of Elizabeth I and gave that four stars.

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 1200 comments I've just finished Enchanted Night, a novella by Steven Millhauser. From the reviews here, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. It's dark, disturbing and dreamlike, a fairy story for adults.

dely | 5214 comments I finished reading... no, I didn't finish reading, I left midway a really awful book of an Italian emerging writer: AAA Libertà cercasi: Amalgama multiforme di pensieri liberi e discutibili sedimentati negli anni. You are lucky there isn't an English translation of this book.

My only Italian review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Sounds interesting! Have you read Christa Wolf's version of that myth, Medea? I recommend it!

I just finished Moonglow and loved it. Can anyone recommend anything else by Michael Chabon? This is the first time I've read him, and I want to explore his work further.

Angela M Terri , I would highly recommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay .

message 10487: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I totally love John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. I have read lots of his books, but this is now my favorite. I am so glad I reread it. I don't remember loving it this much.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Personally, I think you should listen to this in the audio format narrated by Clarke Peters.

Jason | 1051 comments Recently finished The Count of Monte Cristo (my review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) which I really enjoyed though not one of my favorite classics, and American Psycho (my review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) which I appreciated for the writing, but found much of the actual content tough to get through (which is more a testament to BEE's ability than any shortcoming).

Cosmic Arcata To Kill a Mockingbird

I like the writing style. I don't like how ignorant she made southerners sound. I also didn't like that she the "teacher" called our form of government a democracy. It is a Republic! And made the class repeat, "America is a democracy."

I don't know if enjoyed is the right word Chrissie, but I found it a fascinating read.
