Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Hi Angie. Welcome :-)

Ian McClellan | 294 comments Welcome to Zombies! Misty and Angie.

Misty, IDK about you, but I get confused pretty easily, so don't feel bad. That would have thrown me threw a loop too ;)

Hi Angie! Welcome! Be sure to check out the Free books thread. It's usually updated every day!

Ian McClellan | 294 comments Nothing wrong with that, Misty, as long as you go out shooting. That's how I plan on going out.

Angie | 40 comments Me and nick (my grown up son) are allways talking about what we'd do in the zombie apocalypse. We decided on the housing office's in Bury as there are only two entrances. We figure it would be quite easy to defend.

Are there food/water/bathroom accessible?

message 357: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments Yeah, all are there. We talked about the newish college building but the walls on the ground floor are all glass, so that was a no. But the housing office is brick. It's also in the town centre, but I couldn't decide wether that's a plus or a minus.

Meg-Anne | 10 comments I joined a few months ago. I'm fairly new in my love of Zombies. I got my first e-reader and discovered the awesomness of free books. Read a free zombie book (Zomblog by TW Brown) and fell in love. I've read so many zombie books in the past 8 months and still haven't gotten tired of them..so thats a good sign.
I'm glad to see that this group has gotten more active lately. Cant wait to get to know all of you!

*thanks to this thread I'm about halfway through Voyage of the Dead and I love it so far

Welcome to the awesomeness of zombies!

message 360: by Ian (new)

Ian McClellan | 294 comments Howdy, Megan. Glad you're enjoying the undead.

Tampa Comic Con was awesome! Lots of great costumes and a few really great booths. Mostly comics (imagine that) which I'm really not that into. Met some cool people from Troma and picked up a copy of Killer Condom for my DVD collection. Met a few indie authors, too, and picked up some new books to add to the pile.

message 361: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments I'm just the same as you Megan, my kindle is my first ereader, l didn't even have a mobile phone until Christmas last year, but goodreads is easy to work out isn't it. I've also read lots of really good zombie books and anthologies. Even one where there was zombies on Mars.

message 362: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments Hi Angie,

Do share...do you remember the name of the story with the zombies on Mars.

Ian - glad you had fun at Tampa Comic Con. A friend of mine was working one of the booths and I thought of you. Of course, I also thought of all the crowds, which I tend to avoid like a zombie-infested mall, and stuck poolside with the kids instead.

message 364: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments Yes that's the one, and its great. It's by Edward w Robertson.

Big crowds kind of freak me out and I wasn't doing too well at first. Luckily, there was a bar across the street.

message 366: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments Well it gets its name as everyone lives under the surface in holes, like LOTR. But that's the only similarity, so air is an issue, so they couldn't just run outside ,because of that.

It was a artefact that was opened that caused the infection, and these zombies could run. A group of college age kids banded together and then it was a race to save others collect air and think about how to get of the planet.

It really was good, but I don't what to say to much, but if you think hot wiring a car can cause some problems, you should read this.

I totally hear you. We tried to hit the Calgary Comic Con a few years ago when they had the FULL TNG cast, Stan Lee, Adam West and several other notables. It was utterly insane. We actually didn't get in because the Fire Marshall closed it down for a while. They expected 50,000 and got 250,000. The crowds were horrific.

Anton (antontroia) | 59 comments Time is so short for me...working on a second novel...working my other job...but hey! I'm here today!

message 370: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments In the UK comic con crowds a fraction of that. I can't really imagine being in a crowd that size

message 371: by Elizabeth, Zombies! Mod (new)

Elizabeth | 497 comments Mod
They ended up with people travelling from Europe, Asia and the US to come and see the first reunion of the TNG cast in many years. It was really poor planning that they so grossly underestimated the draw.

message 372: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments I can believe that people travelled from Europe. I don't think ours is anything like yours, our crowds were only upwards of 7000. No comparison really is it.

Oh, I don't know. Nerds sort of take over no matter how many there are LOL

message 374: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments Yes , my family call me a nerd or a geek (not sure what the difference is.)lol.Used to be my youngest that what was called that when he was in high school.

I don't care if I'm a nerd/geek, I like all the comics and books & tv and now my family is grown I'm free to do just what interests me. Well mostly anyway, lol.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Well, we are getting close to finding out which books will be next months BOTMs.
I already own the current #1 Zombie, Inc. by Christine Dougherty
But I do not own either of the two books which are tied for second place.
The Reapers Are the Angels (Reapers, #1) by Alden Bell
Portlandtown A Tale of the Oregon Wyldes by Rob DeBorde
I looked on amazon for their kindle book price and wow..
The Reapers are the Angels comes in at $8.89
Portlandtown is also at $8.89

I am one of those who refuse to pay paperback book prices for kindle books. (Insert very long and quite loud rant here)
So I looked at my library website and found that they had both titles in paperback form and they were both available!
SCORE!
I placed a reserve on them both.
So now I'm ready :-)
If you are in the same predicament that I was, look at your library.

Good choice, Tammy. Not just a survival tool either. But a good thing to have. When it contributes to your survival, you will be wishing you could add another star or two... LOL.

message 378: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments I don't like paying full book price for a kindle book, so I'll have to look for some bargains.
They sound like good books though.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Anyone
The ones I posted are the finalists in next month's Book of the Month (BOTM) group read.
If you haven't voted I think there is still time.
Look at the top of this page on the right hand side just under our groups red icon.
Click on the word "polls".
That should take you to the poll page.
From there vote on your favorite.

We had about 15,000 at ApocaCon last year (riding the shirt-tails of a major Zombie Walk). Projections for this year are bigger (the Walkers are taking over the Promenade in Long Beach) and I'm stoked that more authors will be joining us. Even more stoked that Permuted Press is a sponsor. Should be a blast!

So do I, but not as much as I used to sadly. I love the Call of Duty Black Ops Zombie game. And I just finished Mass Effect 3. That was "The" game of all games I thought.

message 385: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments I can't play video games, as I have no coordination, I always die in seconds with any game even that arcade game plants and zombies. I get eaten, my grandson thinks it's really funny lol

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Welcome to our merry band of "Not yet Zed", Joy.

Monty Python skits are one of those "brain worm" things.
If you give them just one seconds thought, they'll be with you for hours. :-)

For those of you not familiar with the original skit... Here is a link. Take a second or two to watch it, as the song does not start for a few minutes.

My video gaming is on a temporary hiatus once the toddlers discovered that the broken controller doesn't really work. :__)

Now I'm waiting a few years till they go to bed (NOT) or we get out of the Elmo stage.

message 395: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments In a few years they'll want there own games console, mine did. My son Tim is at that stage now with my grandson.

message 396: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Well time to stir up a chat.
Many of us are parents. Some of us have school age children, or are in school (college) ourselves.
Some have completed their years of schooling.
So let's share our thoughts on the topic.
What was/is your favorite thing about school?

I'll start. I am long since our of college. My youngest son is getting his BA in business. He is starting his Junior year mid-September. I am looking forward to him being out of the house!
The K-12 schools in our area have returned to classes. I love the quite daytime hours :-)

message 397: by Angie (new)

Angie | 40 comments My kids finished school years ago and I have a grandson in high school now. I've thought of doing some courses in college myself but I have ms and get tired a lot so I don't know if I could work around this.

Mine are little (11, 9 and 5), so they're all still in elementary school. We home school, which is pretty rewarding. Also - exhausting at times :)

My favourite part about school as a kid - was the weekly library visits!

Please join me in wishing group member
Kristin (Blood,Sweat and Books) a Happy Birthday as she celebrates her special day later this weekend.

message 400: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments Happy Birthday, Kristin!

I hate to be a nerd, but I loved to read in school (I got busted once for sneaking out of class and going to the library) and still do.

Side note - my 6 year old daughter is now playing Minecraft on her tablet and killing zombies, which disappear into "bubbles with no blood." This from a girl who worships Barbie.
