Both :O) As long as the line wasn't too long. One of my all time favs was The Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags New Jersey :O)

Thanks Susan...I try :o) Oh hey another score for the chicks in here...we went to see Monster trucks at the fair and the best and winning monster truck driver...was a 16 year old girl. Let me tell ya she could control that thing and pulled off "the" best stunts in that truck. So yeah not surprised the chicks dig the zombie stuff...heck my wife would easily survive the zombie apocolypse...she can cook...which is probably why I wouldn't survive :O)

There will be a book signing at Mysterious Galaxy in Redondo Beach the next day too. So any zombie fans in SoCal might want to mark your calendar and share the news. The more the scarier!
What is everyone else doing? Any of you part of the Buddy Read for Voyage of the Dead this weekend? Just making conversation... ;)

Not the longest series I've read, but one of the best: Stephen King's The Dark Tower series...NOT zombie, but that man has a brain for fiction.
Who is in the carpool in the above post? YIKES!! The Party Bus...lord. Must. Take. Pictures.

Hi there Alica (AKA Paige Turner, AKA Zombie Book Chick). Welcome to the zombie apocalypse! ;) And be sure to check out the Free Kindle Zombie Book thread daily. :) It's my cloud filler.
I have nothing fun planned this weekend. Partly because I was at the ER this week - we think that I was bitten by a spider - I have a very gross, blistery, bright red wound on my leg that we're treating with antibiotics and creams and loooots of Benadryl. I'm walking around half-baked...
So I'm spending much of my weekend on the couch, which will give me time to catch up on some reviews etc.

I am not sure which spiders you have in Canada, but we have some pretty wicked ones here in Washington state.
A few years ago one of my cousins was sweeping a spare bedroom when a Hobo spider jump off the curtain and bit him.

He was on medication for weeks

Which got me to thinking, are there zombie bugs?
Apparently there are, in Brazilian rain forests, zombie ants. I'd love to see someone take this and formulate a great story out of it. Fungus stalks growing out of people's heads, taking control of your body - lots of crazy elements here - Lovecraft's From Beyond, pod people, the Host...

I saw a book like that last year... Trying to remember the name. It was some spreading fungus or spores that turned people into zombie-like things...
Another recent, non-zombie, book I enjoyed was Extinction Point. Think Day of the Triffids and Body Snatchers meet I Am Legend. ;)

That article about the zombie fungus/ants is seriously distributing.
Of course ants aren't humans but I'll never look at fungi the same.
Who knew that they could work together like that?
I agree that it would make an interesting story idea.
As I type this I recall a book that I read called Zombacter
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...
That played around with bacteria as the zombie creating element, but I rather like the idea of using already existing factors, it helps with the belivablity.

I gave Zombacter 3 stars which in my rating is an average read where there are roughly the same numbers of pro's and con's.
Keeping in mind that I do not claim to be an expert reviewer, rather just an avid reader with her own set of standards.
With that in mind, I recall that the story was slow to build, parts were simply too grossly described and I wasn't satisfied with the ending.
However, as I understood it now, this is the first book in a still being written series. As such the slow build up and ending can be rationalized; the Gore cannot.
I also recall thinking that it was well written.
Here is my review.

By coincidence my pre-order of Dust, the third and final book in the Silo Saga by Hugh Howey, downloaded last night. The introduction mentions "Cordyceps" as a fungus that controls the brains of ants, making them climb to the top of plants before they die.
And that in turn reminded me that the book I saw last year was indeed titled "Cordyceps" too! Cordyceps and Cordyceps Resurgentis is a series that already provides the plot Netemella was suggesting. :)

I don't think the book has much to do with ants. It's about the fungus mutating to be able to control people the way it does ants. As I understand it, the fungus basically turns people into zombies. So, you might like it... I haven't read it yet. ;)

Kudos to you Colin. It takes a real commitment and love for the characters and world within the book to stick to a book that long.

Book 22 is now out & that's 576 pages, but this is a series I will only get in paperback.

Yay! I'm coming out of my Benadryl-induced haze!
Still haven't figured out what bit me, but now that the swelling is down, I can definitely see two marks - so something with fangs. Almost for sure a spider. We have some baddies up here in northern Alberta, but nothing life-threatening. I mean, unless you're talking about bears.
I read a long article about mind-controlling/parasitic bugs the other day. Horrifying.

I've been passing my time reading The Undead: The First Seven Days by RR Haywood. I have been wildly entertained, and not just because I've been stoned.

Yet I'm too chicken to click the link you offered on the
mind-controlling/parasitic bugs tonight.
In the morning when I'm feeling brave, I'll take a look.

Shawn
Ugh. Our forecast says its going to dip down to zero overnight not long from now. I'm not done with summer :(

We have been reaching the mid-fifties the last three nights and ricocheting back up to the mid-nineties in the late afternoon.
That is normal for our fall (Autumn) weather. It also makes for the most lovely color changes in the trees.
Fall is my most favorite season. Long live Fall!

That's great, Shawn! By the way, and totally by coincidence, I'm reading Trudge right now! :) I'll be adding to the long list of reviews for Shawn Chesser when I'm done.
Definitely looking forward to meeting you at ApocaCon too. Looks like Craig DiLouie and many other good zombie/apocalyptic authors will be there too. I'll PM more details ASAP.

That's awesome. Listening to them talk sounds like they are describing some frozen circle of hell to me. I can't imagine living somewhere that ever dips below 75 in August.

I keep my windows open almost all year long whenever its warm enough or not too hot.
Around 3am I was I woke up from the chill in the air and grabbed a thick blanket for warmth. I could not be bothered to close the window.
It is likely that if the zombie virus is airborne I'll catch it for that reason.

My side of my state has roughly the same number of days with snow on the ground as over 100 degree days (about 6 weeks worth). Although we have more days without snow on the ground where the temps are at or under freezing, then we have days in the 90's.
Overall my area of my state is bipolar 1, rapid cycler...just like me :-)
I enjoy each season and would not want to live in where the weather was not rich in diversity. Life without winter or summer is not for me.
I recall Jeff foxworthy skit on my states residents. I think that he was one for every state to be honest, but he makes reference to my states weather changes.

When I first read this I thought of course everyone does that!
Like for example this one
If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over 8 layers of clothes, you live in Washington.
I am currently added the last touches to my granddaughter Halloween costumes (tutu's) I've made them using elastic bands cut larger then waist so they can wear them on the outside of their winter clothing. About every third year here we have snow on Halloween.

Maybe is I could find a non scary zombie. Not sure how I could work that one out. Lol
Well, I don't know about frozen circle of hell... But -30 C (-22 F) is pretty common here, and it was -55 (-67 F) a couple of years ago. At -55, exposed skin freezes in something like less than two minutes. Who knew I would be thinking wistfully of moving back to "balmy" Ontario?
At least the zoms don't stand a chance. We'll be able to chip their heads right off their shoulders.

A non scary zombie would be a vampire!

Just got tickets to the Walker Stalker Convention in Atlanta. It starts November 1st, so I'll be too excited come Halloween to stuff myself full of candy.

Maybe a cute vampire would work. Being my only girl, would prefer Wonder Woman. Lol

Heard any good jokes lately? What if Chuck Norris were the first one bitten in the zombie apocalypse? Think we'd be screwed?

:) In fact, one of the Chuck jokes is: "When zombies bite Chuck Norris, the zombie turns into Chuck Norris."

I looked at I, Zombie goodreads page.
Remember the email where I shared with you how I choose a book in the zombie genre ?
How do you think that title measured up?
